All that's needed to change the world is you and I.

It takes a collective effort to make our world a better place. The task isn't meant for those in the government or a single person; your little contribution will surely make a difference to a large extent, and that is why the change should begin with you and me as we journey into having a better world for the benefit of every living creature in our world today.

Two days ago, I made a post and stated that having a good society actually begins in our various homes and goes down to our communities. If you and I stop neglecting some things around our environment because it doesn't affect us personally, then the world is stepping forward to a better place.

In my community, we experienced flooding recently for the first time since I started living here. Then I began to wonder: What went wrong? Why the sudden flood? I checked the gutters and saw how messy they had been. Lots of trash just occupied every place, making the movement of water almost impossible. Instead, we had floods everywhere. It's people within our community that always litter everywhere when each home should have a trash bin, but some people do not care; instead, they offload their empty nylon wherever they find themselves after eating snacks. Then the breeze helps the trash enter the gutter, thereby blocking the movement of water. My neighbor had to hire people who evacuated so much water from her living room and from her compound. It was like the Jordan River. On my part, I do not keep quiet; whenever I see people messing up our community, I will politely correct you. The other day, one lady told me that instead of asking her to pick up the trash she left on our street, I should be a good citizen and pick it up on her behalf, as she has no time for dirty work. You can imagine that she has the time to litter the environment, contributing to land pollution. Well, I met with the chairman of our community development and expressed my concern about the flood and how it could be sorted out. Fortunately, he listened to me, hired some laborers to clear all the gutters, and then sent a memo on our community WhatsApp platform that if anyone was caught littering the community, a fine would be imposed. After the clearing of gutters exercise, another heavy rainfall happened, but this time there was no flood. Honestly, I felt fulfilled and happy.

People in my community are now becoming conscious of the way they litter the environment, which is nice. Some even make fun of it. I stepped out yesterday in the morning to buy bread, and then one schoolgirl who was eating gala dropped the empty nylon on the street. Her friend immediately shouted at her and said, Pick the nylon, or else your parents will pay a fine on your behalf". I smiled as I watched that short drama with the schoolchildren. You see, even adults and children are becoming aware of the recent developments in my community.

It was my little effort to contribute to a better world and I will keep playing my part in my capacity.

By starting with your community, you too can do a little good deed in your environment, and collectively, we keep journeying into a better world.
