I CAME BACK TO ROMANCE | FANGIRL - RAINBOW ROWELL [ENG/ESP]
¡Hola, hola, bookhivers! Espero que su fin de semana haya sido fenomenal. Si eres nuevo lector, bienvenido. Soy Nieves, lectora empedernida adicta al romance, la fantasía y el misterio. Hoy vamos a dar un paseo por un romance universitario del 2013: “Fangirl” escrito por Rainbow Rowell.
Cath y Wren son gemelas, durante toda su vida hicieron absolutamente todo juntas. Ahora que empiezan la universidad, Wren ha decidido que quiere un cambio, separarse un poco de Cath. Esta decisión no podría ser peor, Cath lleva toda su vida siguiendo a Wren e ignorando la capacidad nula que tiene para socializar mientras escribe famosos fan fiction en su computadora. ¿Qué hará ahora? ¿Con quién se sentará en clase? ¿Será agradable su compañera de cuarto desconocida? ¿Amigos nuevos? Esta no era la experiencia universitaria que Cath se imaginaba, pero sin duda, será la mejor.
Cuando comencé a leer “Fangirl” tenía muchas ganas de leer un romance ligero, juvenil y que me mantuviera feliz y entretenida. Cumplió todas y cada una de mis expectativas. Tiene todas las características de un romance en condiciones. Rainbow Rowell supo darme personajes que voy a querer por un montón de tiempo, que tienen historia, sentido y personalidad.
Primero vamos con Cath, es una protagonista cliché, he de admitirlo, pero no por ser cliché deja de ser real, allá afuera hay muchas chicas con miedo de enfrentarse al mundo más allá de la pantalla. Cath consigue un lugar seguro en sus fan fiction que le permite manejar lo que ocurre con gente que ama, por muy ficticia que sea. No estaba preparada para vivir fuera de allí. Crece con la trama, sin necesidad de que Levi se lo ordene, no necesita del interés amoroso para que su personaje evolucione, si una novela de romance tiene eso, es un punto claro a su favor.
He de decir que odié a Wren en muchos momentos pero entiendo que su personaje está hecho para contrastar con Cath. Wren es alocada, quiere dejar de ser una versión de su hermana, buscar su camino y, aunque se pierde un poco en el proceso, obliga a Cath a salir de su zona de confort.
El padre de Cath me dió mil años de vida, se robó todo mi corazón. No podía creer que un personaje secundario estuviera tan bien escrito. Conoces su historia de padre soltero, lo ves ser tierno, apoyar a sus hijas, enojarse, protegerlas, tener problemas internos… Los viajes continuos de Cath a casa no están de adorno. Aparecía en pantalla y yo me alegraba porque solo quería que ese señor viviera una vida bonita.
De todos los personajes, creo que los que están un poco desperdiciados son Levi (interés amoroso) y Reagan (compañera de cuarto). De Levi no sabemos tanto, pero su relación con Cath sí me ilusionaba, amé verlos coquetear aunque no supiera mucho de él. De Reagan no me contaron básicamente nada, todo el libro escuché lo qué le parecía a Cath que era Reagan pero no terminé de conocerla.
Mi mayor crítica al libro fue que nos daban fragmentos muy largos de Simon y Baz (el fan fic de Cath, un fan fiction real que Rainbow Rowell escribió sobre Harry Potter). Entre capítulos leíamos sobre ellos, dentro de los capítulos también, no sé si la autora estaba probando material (sacó “Carry On” unos dos años después y trata de Simon y Baz) o intentaba imprimirse demasiado en Cath, no quiero que sea tan obvio que estás hablando de ti misma, me rompe un poco la burbuja de la ficción. No aportaba nada a la trama, me terminé saltando más de la mitad de los fragmentos porque jamás me ha interesado “Carry On”, se me hizo un poco pesado.
Es disfrutable, puede que el último punto no sea tan molesto para algunas personas, pero yo tengo que darle un 4.5/5.

Hello, hello, bookhivers! I hope your weekend was phenomenal. If you're a new reader, welcome. I'm Nieves, a hardcore reader addicted to romance, fantasy, and mystery. Today we're going to take a walk through a 2013 college romance: "Fangirl" written by Rainbow Rowell.
Cath and Wren are twins, and throughout their lives they have done absolutely everything together. Now that they are starting college, Wren has decided that she wants a change, a little separation from Cath. This decision couldn't be worse, Cath has spent her whole life following Wren around and ignoring the zero ability she has to socialize while writing famous fan fiction on her computer. What will she do now? Who will she sit with in class? Will her unknown roommate be nice? New friends? This wasn't the college experience Cath imagined, but it will undoubtedly be the best.
When I started reading "Fangirl" I was really looking forward to reading a light, young adult romance that would keep me happy and entertained. It met each and every one of my expectations. It has all the makings of a proper romance. Rainbow Rowell knew how to give me characters that I'm going to love for a long time, that have history, meaning and personality.
First let's go with Cath, she's a cliché protagonist, I have to admit, but not because she's cliché she's no less real, out there there are a lot of girls afraid to face the world beyond the screen. Cath gets a safe place in her fan fiction that allows her to handle what happens with people she loves, however fictional they may be. She wasn't prepared to live outside of it. She grows with the plot, no need for Levi to command her to, she doesn't need the love interest for her character to evolve, if a romance novel has that, it's a definite point in her favor.
I have to say that I hated Wren at many points but I understand that her character is made to contrast with Cath. Wren is zany, she wants to stop being a version of her sister, find her own way and although she loses herself a bit in the process, she forces Cath out of her comfort zone.
Cath's father gave me a thousand years of life, he stole my whole heart. I couldn't believe that a secondary character was so well written. You know his story as a single dad, you see him be tender, support his daughters, get angry, protect them, have internal problems... Cath's continuous trips home are not for show. He would appear on screen and I was glad because I just wanted this gentleman to live a nice life.
Of all the characters, I think the ones that are a bit wasted are Levi (love interest) and Reagan (roommate). Of Levi we don't know that much, but his relationship with Cath I was really looking forward to, I loved watching them flirt even though I didn't know much about him. Of Reagan I was told basically nothing, the whole book I heard what it sounded like to Cath that Reagan was but I didn't end up getting to know her.
My biggest criticism of the book was that we were given very long snippets of Simon and Baz (Cath's fan fic, an actual fan fiction that Rainbow Rowell wrote about Harry Potter). Between chapters we would read about them, within chapters too, I don't know if the author was trying out material (she brought out "Carry On" about two years later and it's about Simon and Baz) or trying to imprint too much on Cath, I don't want it to be so obvious that you're talking about yourself, it breaks the fiction bubble a bit for me. It didn't add anything to the plot, I ended up skipping more than half of the bits because I've never been interested in "Carry On", it got a bit tiresome.
It's enjoyable, the last point may not be that bothersome to some people, but I have to give it a 4.5/5.

The characters that are written by Rainbow Rowell always make you want to fangirl over them. Just like eleanor and park, it was such a memorable read to me compared to her other works.

Segundo, sé que he leído otras novelas de Rainbow Rowell, siento que se me hace conocida la autora pero mi mente ahora no logra dar cuál fue el libro que leí de ella, sin embargo, tengo la sensación de que lo que leí me gustó🤭 Porque además sí había escuchado de este libro, lo tenía en mi lista de "libros por leer" de hace bastantes años, pero nunca le dí la oportunidad, quizás ahora que estoy buscando un romance ligero que me emocione por un momento le dé esa oportunidad que he estado postergando.
