NFT's were a big buzzword last year.

But as we have seen they don't do much in most cases. I'm sitting here looking at the top nft collections by market price and they aren't worth shit. They have no use, they do nothing, they are just overpriced profile pics that cost thousands of dollars.

As much as people like to espouse the genius that is the nft and why they are worth the money. Reality is that unless the nft has a real function it's worthless. They have been compared to artworks like the mona lisa but lack the talent, effort, uniqueness that gives a valuable piece of art it's value. Artworks can be used as a store of value as they have history, reputation and traceability. A Picasso will hold it's value long into the future for all of these reasons and can be a good place to hold a large amount of money.

A digital picture will never have those unique factors and isn't a great place to store a lot of value. As we have seen in the past couple of years, value is subjective and while hype drove the prices up it couldn't sustain them once people got bored and the NFT markets dipped.

For me, NFT's can be groundbreaking in a number of sectors due to their unique nature and giving people the ability to tokenize assets to the blockchain.

When you see what gaming projects like @splinterlands can do with NFT's then you can get a glimpse of actual use case. In game assets will be one of the leading uses for them in the near future IMO. It might not be splinterlands that makes the big breakthrough but at some stage a game with NFT's is going to go viral. They make too much sense for it not to happen. It might even be an established game that installs them retrospectively. Call of duty with a weaponry market for the game. FIFA with a real transfer market. Every in game item as a fully traceable, trackable, valuable NFT. It is coming, it's just a matter of when.

What about other use cases?

Leofinance are targeting ever green content for their website. It's starting with ad revenue and distributing the profits back to the token holders but that is a blanket approach with no reference to the authors creating the value for everybody else.

What about NFT's for page views?

@leofinance have spoken about introducing NFT's to the site in the near future anyway. We will have collections for different achievements such as power ups and staking. We already know that they are coming so what about for great content.

What about we get an NFT every time our content gains 10,000 page views we receive a special creator NFT for our collection.

And what if the team equated 10K page views to 1K LEO power as part of the revenue distribution?? The people who are creating the most value for the site would be getting a fair share of the revenue generated.

If you didn't want to hold long term, then you could sell it for fair market value. The benefits of using fungible tokens for projects. Giving real value to their assigned qualities.

Now as a non programmer I have no idea how any of these things work or if they can be made to work but it's all about new ways to build on new technology. All of this technology is still emerging so we will see it move in a lot of interesting new directions and as usual Hive is leading the way as it always has.
