My Childhood Vice
Thinking about everything now, I finally get it why I just can’t seem to give up on running even at my age. Most women my age wouldn’t want to run even a mile but then there’s me on the other hand who just wakes up, dresses up and goes out to run for fun.
As a child, I just couldn’t sit at one place. It was like my butt was always itching because I just couldn’t even sit for a second. Aside when I have to eat when I obviously would sit down, I was always running around the house like a robot. Sometimes my uncles would have to force me to take a nap with a cane by their sides. I was stubborn, but I feared the cane. The whole idea of being through pain was enough to make me sleep for hours but once I’m up, I’d assume everyone finally got the peace they needed and we move again.
I really don’t know why I was that way but I guess it’s because I had others kids around me and everyone created a safe space for us to be the kids that we were. I remember how everyone would keep calling at us to stop running until they got tired. It’s more like it was our everyday job, especially me. I was always up and running from dawn till dusk. But, this didn’t just come with no risks. My forehead suffered a lot as I always bumped into a wall, a pillar and many more. My aunties would have to use an ointment and a 1000 Ghana cedis coin to apply pressure on the bump for it to go down. I would cry my eyes out but just give me a few hours and it’s like nothing ever happened to me.
At some point, everyone got fed up of me but they also didn’t know I was also a gang leader in school.😂 Aside all the running, there was more to the story in school. I was more like the saviour of the girls in my class as I would always stand up to fight the bigger guys in the class who tried to bully them. And to think that tiny me even had the guts to do that is very funny but I still did this. As they say, everything that has a start has its end and my days of being a runner and a track star came to an end on one hot school day. I was on with my running spree with my classmates after school closed and idk what happened but we were up on the tables in the class the next minute. Out of nowhere, someone pushed me off the table I was standing on and that was it.
I know what you’re thinking, nope, I didn’t die and I sure didn’t break my neck. But you know what I broke, my nose! It was a blood party in class that day as there was blood everywhere. My mates went ahead to call our teacher who came to my aid and took me to the hospital. Now guess what I did, after all this went down, I was picked up from school and I didn’t even breathe a word to anyone back at home. I just got home and slept. But my mom did find out the next day as I was still bleeding from the nose. I still do bleed from my nose sometimes but since then, I would say I got less stubborn because I learnt my lesson the hard way.
all imaged belong to me.
