From Jungle Trails to Canopy Walkways: Immersed in Nature's Beauty

You know that feeling when you’ve been in school for so long that you’re tired of being in school and yearn for a break? And magically the school organizes an excursion for students.

I used to experience this a lot back in junior high school and primary school. Our school once in a while organizes inter-school games with other schools and also sometimes excursions for us.

Today I want to share with you all my trip to the central region of Ghana. Growing up, I’ve lived all my life in the capital of Ghana and this particular excursion was a new experience for me all together because I got to leave my region for the first time.

I don’t know how much this excursion cost because it was included in our fees. That’s the good thing about my school. Everything is included in the fees so parents do don’t have to be paying for everything when it’s fast approaching.

Per the information given to us, it was a one day excursion which was to happen on a Friday. We were advised to come to school very early so we could leave early? No one wanted to be left behind to obviously we would all be there on time.

Before the d-day, I got my uniform ironed and ready, my back was stacked with snacks and my water bottle and I also made sure to get some money for my parents for anything I wanted on the journey.

I couldn’t even sleep the night before. I would wake up every thirty minutes to check the time because I didn’t want to be late. Man, I had a sleepless night but it was worth it.😅

I got to school at exactly 6am and to my surprise even the late comers on a normal day were there before me.😂 By 7am everyone was ready and we all took our seats while our teachers packed our lunch in the bus and also got ready. The whole school went for the excursion so we locked the schools main gate and left.

The journey was a long one but it was fun. We sang throughout the journey and made fun of ourselves because our voices were bad. At some point, most of us slept off while who were up kept staring at the scenery. For someone who didn’t sleep the night before, I was fast asleep.

The bus coming to a stop woke me up from my sleep. I realised we had arrived at the Elmina castle. The castle was used by slave traders in the olden days to keep slaves transport them to other countries by sea. The outside looked nice but as we proceeded into the dungeons it was really nice. It was all part of the package so we had to endure.

From there we proceed to the cape coast castle and we were given a tour there also. Our last stop was the Kakum national park. We arrived there a bit late and so we were take straight to the waiting area for registration. We were given tags and we proceeded to the canopy walk. The walk to the canopy wasn’t an easy one. It took us more than 30 minutes and I remember it like it was yesterday.

On our way we were being briefed about how the place came about and all of that. I bought some cocoa to eat for the first time in my life. It was very good so I bought more to take home.😅

We finally arrived to the canopy and we took turns getting on. It was very scary so we advised ourselves not to look down.😂 As for me I looked down and I managed to see an elephant and some monkeys. The canopy walk was very long but I wasn’t scared. I even took a picture there as you can see.

After the canopy walk it was already late and we had to leave. If this point we were all exhausted but we still managed to sing on our way back. There was traffic getting back to the capital and so almost of us slept.😂 It was 8pm and we were still not in Accra. Parents were so worried they started to call the school to make enquiries, my parents inclusive. We arrived back in school at around 10pm. All parents were around to pick up their kids and we all went out separate ways.

This experience was really fun and I will always remember it because I got to spend time with my friends and also make some memories.

😂 hahah see her innocent face. Only if they knew you would grow up to be this stubborn, we wouldn’t allow you to grow.

I’ve always been a fan of nature and being intrigued by the Kakum National Park. Hope you’ll give me more insight into how the canopy felt. 😮‍💨

How can you stop me from growing.😂😅

For the canopy walk, you need to experience it yourself because it’s something else. Maybe we should visit there sometime, that’s if the place is still open.

First of all... That's really am interesting title you have there.
Really wonderful.

I couldn’t even sleep the night before.

This happens to me a lot especially when I have an interesting place to go.
Excursions are really nice thing to engage in especially in our early formative stages as it exposes us to various places and they always say that travelling is a part of Education

Thank you.

Traveling is indeed part of education because you don’t even need to say much. You learn from what you see and that’s the best of education.

The energy in the bus must have been amazing🙂🙂. It' always fun travelling with your mates inside a bus. And I trust students, there will never be a dull moment. If they're not singing, they're gisting or making jokes. Looking back to those moments gives a feeling of nostalgia.

It's the pictures for me though😅😅. Y'all look so young and clueless. You look like you were there for the vibes, with no worries in life😅😅. To travel back in time...

This was fun to read. Thanks for sharing.

I know right. Traveling with your friends is an experience one must have as a student.😅🤭

Those times I didn’t have anything to worry about, not even school because I was very smart. Look at me now.🥲😂
