A Taste of Ghana: My Favorite Dish

Testing mic, one , two. I know most people will come for my head but let me just start by saying that, Ghanaian jollof is the king of jollof. Nigerian jollof should be classified under rice and stew or something else. And if you’d love to continue this discussion, you should try Ghanaian jollof and we will take it from there.😅🤝

Talking about food, I love food and if there’s any day you hear me say I don’t love food then I’m probably drunk or something. One thing about me is the fact that I love trying out new dishes and so you’d always find me looking for new restaurants. My colleagues at work always say I know all the restaurants in town yet I don’t know my way to most hospitals.😂 Well, what you don’t know can’t kill you.

With the way I love food, I guess it wouldn’t be a surprise that I’m a good cook. I can whip up anything for you in a minute and you’d love it. The only problem is that I can’t turn water into wine but we can still find our way around it. I’m not much of an eater but I’m very picky when it comes to what I eat. Anytime I go somewhere and I’m to try I new dish, i make sure to scrutinize it very well cos I don’t want to have any issues of allergies.

In Ghana, we have so many local dishes as we have different ethnic groups out here. As they say, there’s beauty in diversity and that’s one reason I love my country. Funny enough, there are still so many local dishes I haven’t tried out yet in Ghana. Surprise right? Growing up in the south, we had some local dishes everyone liked and just a few local dishes from other parts of the country. It’s also the same in the north also even though I’m not used to most of the foods here.

Picking my favorite local dish would be a huge challenge for me because how can I pick from Waakye, banku, fufu, eba and many more. If I should pick one, it would feel I’m cheating on the others. But, I’d say my favorite local dish for now would be fufu with light soup or groundnut soup with pepper, chicken, eggs and beef. Yes! We like it rich over here.😂 Fufu is a dish that is eaten widely across Ghana and it’s either made with cassava and plantain or just yam. People in the south mostly go with cassava and plantain while those in the north go with yam. I’d like to be this has to do with the availability of the raw material.

I love soupy foods very much and fufu does really make my day most of the time. My friends would be surprised I’m going in for Fufu and not banku, but we can discuss this later in chambers.😂 To anyone planning on visiting Ghana anytime soon, you should most definitely try out our waakye, fufu, banku, ampesie, eba, and others and also don’t forget our almighty Ghanaian jollof. My Nigerian neighbors would not be able to relate so let me leave it here. Do have a nice day!
