Pictures From Africa's Largest Street Party: The Calabar Carnival 2023
Yep!
The Calabar Carnival is held annually on the 28th of December in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. That's in the South-south part of Nigeria.
It's a really beautiful sight to behold. Traffic is stopped, people flood to the streets to watch, hangout, have a good time and different large organized groups of dancers called bands dance through the streets and a band is announced as the winner when it's all over.
I was actually born and brought up in Calabar, but I live in Abuja currently. The carnival has always been my thing so I still make it to Calabar most Decembers for this party. These are pictures from last year's. Enjoy!
This is me and my gang:
I had to reduce the quality of the photos to an extent so I can fit in these many here without it taking all day to load. Now there you go:
The End
Hi there, my novella Professor Otagburuagu just got published. It promises to be thoroughly entertaining and intellectually stimulating. Written by myself and illustrated by Scandinavian artist @katharsisdrill. You can get it from me for just 4 HBD.
You can also order the hard copy from anywhere in the world via this link:

I'm counting on your patronage, thank you!
What a colourful festival!!
That's right 😃👌
That looks like such good time. Even through all the blurry as hell photos.
Hahahah. They were actually brilliant photos but I had to reduce the quality so I can have so many of them in the post without lags. I said so in the post👇
Yeah I meant to say the socks n sandals are clear. PS—charge your phone.
Hahahah. I should have cropped the screenshot so you don't see it in the first place, but anyways, thanks. I'll charge my phone.
Good to see you again dude. Looks like a helluva time. Like Mardi Gras in New Orleans only different.
I'm happy to see you again, man!
Yeah, it looks like that, certainly the same kinda style and similar to the stuff they do in Brazil too
Such traditions should be celebrated by all the people of the country because we know how the earlier people lived here in this world so whenever we celebrate the event. And meeting new people is a lot of fun.
That's right 👌👍✌
Yeah.
Hey, mate! Good times it seems. Here it's too cold right now for costumes.
Yeah, really good times, but the festival was in December 2023.
Hey, Katharsisdrill, welcome back!
Great to see you here again. I'm just finding out you're back from this comment.
I am just slowly writing a few post. I am busy until summer, so it will be recreational hobby posting :) But I am trying to vote again.
Cool. Enjoy, man, no pressure.
Beautiful pictures and cultural display.
I always hear about this Calabar Christmas Carnival but I have never for once attended it.
Thank you for sharing these amazing photos with us.
You're welcome. Thank you too.
You should try to check it out this December, it's fun, the energy in the air is staggering.
Cool! Thank you.
