Designated Survivor – Beyond the Deep State and Conspiracy | Series Review [En-Es]
All are dead, and the democratic order has been undermined. The world's great power is in a state of weakness. No one can change the facts. Only one person has survived, and everyone believes he is the least capable.

It has been several days since I wrote this blog. All this time has been necessary, I am finding myself and building what I want for myself. Many things hurt you, others make you change your way of thinking and as you understand the value of what is important you begin to prioritise.
I'll write about this in a little more time, but I think it's good to give this introduction in this post here in Movies & TV Shows, the community together with Writing Club, Geek Zone, Music and pinmapple (now Worldmappin) where I started writing.
This three-season series of 53 episodes is available on Netflix. Many of the scenarios that happen in the series can be compared to reality and even the everyday.
The series is potentially dramatic, but it goes beyond that. It makes you feel a sour taste and prompts you to evaluate the possibility that in real life the entire Federal Government of the United States could be eliminated in the middle of the Union Speech. For those of you who don't know what the Union Speech is, it is the session that takes place on Capitol Hill in Washington DC with all members of the three branches of the US Federal Government. In other words, the president, vice president, secretaries of government, congressmen, senators, attorney general, and supreme court justices.
Han pasado varios días desde que escribí en este blog. Todo éste tiempo ha sido necesario, me estoy encontrando conmigo y construyendo lo que deseo para mí. Muchas cosas te hacen daño, otras te hacen cambiar tu manera de pensar y a la medida que comprendes el valor de lo importante te comienzas a priorizar.
Escribiré con un poco más de tiempo sobre esto, pero creo que es bueno dar esta introducción en éste post aquí en Movies & TV Shows, la comunidad junto a Writing Club, Geek Zone, Music y pinmapple (hoy Worldmappin) donde comencé a escribir.
Esta serie de tres temporadas de 53 episodios se encuentra disponible en Netflix. Mucho de los escenarios que suceden en la serie se pueden comparar con la realidad e incluso con lo cotidiano.
La serie es potencialmente dramática, pero va más allá. Te hace sentir un sabor agrio y te incita a evaluar la posibilidad de que en la vida real todo el Gobierno Federal de los Estados Unidos sea eliminado en pleno Discurso de la Unión. Everyone thinks that the symbol of democracy is elections or presidential houses. However, the reality is that the true symbol of the prevalence of democracy as a system is the legislative branch, a space that brings together the voices of the entire population. In the United States, the lower house represents the majority of the population, and the senate represents the minority (the states that make up the union). Attacking the symbol of democracy means destroying the institutional order of a country. It is precisely this rich argument that is the focus of the series.
La sesión emblemática, el símbolo más importante del mundo civilizado, lo que representa el orden y el balance de poderes en occidente, explotado por una bomba. Todos mueren. El inicio dramático te entretiene y te hace preguntar: ¿Qué sucede ahora?

I can't deny that there are gaps in some scenes; I would have preferred 30-minute episodes instead of an hour. The person who takes office as President of the United States is the one who has been designated as the survivor, and since there is no Congress, he must do it before a judge and the Bible. That moment in the series is dramatic. Who destroyed the Capitol? Who dared to take down the entire federal government?
The series, as it progresses, shows a deep state of corruption and the rampage of a group that wants to do away with what the American founding fathers built. The two-party model between Republicans and Democrats is in decline. However, Tom Kirkman, played by Kiefer Sutherland, will seek, despite being unprepared to face the full responsibility of running the US, to restore the order that has been shattered into pieces.
No puedo negar que hay vacíos en algunas escenas, hubiera preferido episodios de 30 minutos en vez de 1 hora. La persona que ejerce el cargo como presidente de los Estados Unidos es aquella que ha sido designada como superviviente y al no haber congreso lo debe hacer ante un juez y la biblia. Ése momento en la serie es dramático. ¿Quién destruyo el capitolio? ¿Quién se atrevió a acabar con todo el gobierno federal?
La serie, a medida que avanza, muestra un Estado profundo, corrupción y el desmán de un grupo que desea acabar con lo que construyeron los padres fundadores estadounidenses. El modelo bipartidista entre Republicanos y Demócratas se encuentra en declive. The message of the series is compact. No country is exempt from attack, and it also makes it clear that conspiracies are possible. The electoral system can be manipulated, and even one person, if he or she wishes, can put a nation's security system at risk. No one is safe.
Kiefer Sutherland gives an excellent performance as the designated survivor of the Federal Government. Despite being part of a Democratic government, he stays on the independent trend to try to maintain healthy negotiations with the Republicans and Democrats.
One thing I liked in the series was seeing Tom Kirkman be honest and say that he wasn't ready, let alone wanted, to be president, but it was something he had to do. It's a sincerity that transcends the message that human beings must build a strong legacy. Another relevant aspect was how he submitted to questioning by the Governors of the union.
This would not happen in reality and should not happen in history. That interrogation was necessary to constitute a new Senate and lay the groundwork for reconstruction. The important thing about that scene is what it conveys: no interrogation, no reconstruction. One side must give in for the good of a whole country. Surprising. It is a dramatic and intriguing thriller.
El mensaje de la serie es compacto. Ningún país se encuentra exento de ser atacado, y también deja en acierto que las conspiraciones son posibles. Que el sistema electoral puede ser manipulado y que incluso una sola persona, si lo desea, puede llegar a poner en riesgo el sistema de seguridad de una nación. Nadie está a salvo.
Kiefer Sutherland hace una excelente interpretación en su personaje de designado superviviente del Gobierno Federal. A pesar de formar parte de un gobierno demócrata, se mantiene en la tendencia de independiente para tratar de mantener una negociación sana con los Republicanos y demócratas.
Algo que me gustó en la serie fue ver a Tom Kirkman ser sincero y decir que no estaba preparado y menos quería ser presidente; pero era algo que debía hacer. Es una sinceridad que transciende con el mensaje de que los seres humanos debemos construir un sólido legado. Otro aspecto relevante fue cómo él se sometió a un interrogatorio de los Gobernadores de la unión.
Esto no ocurriría en la realidad y tampoco debe suceder en la historia. Ese interrogatorio fue necesario para constituir un nuevo Senado y sentar bases de reconstrucción. Lo importante de esa escena es lo que transmite: si no hay interrogatorio, no hay reconstrucción. Una de las partes debe ceder por el bien de todo un país. Sorprendente. Es un thriller dramático e intrigante.

Lo que más me ha llamado la atención es la forma en que retrata la debilidad de las instituciones y la vulnerabilidad del poder gubernamental ante posibles ataques. Es aterrador imaginar que algo así pudiera ocurrir en la vida real. Muy interesante!
Efectivamente, las instituciones se vuelven débiles si son atacadas. Es dantesco que algo así ocurra.
