We went in one of the buses of a relative, we were all singing and feeling the excitement of the air that rose in the windows. To get to "Cubiro" you have to go through a road with many narrow curves, that is to say, you have to have a lot of driving training in my opinion. On the way we could see everything in an imposing way, contemplating the views and the beauty of the landscape makes you feel an incomparable peace. This was only the beginning.

En mis breves vacaciones, los primeros días del mes de abril, acordé con mi familia materna ir al pueblo de “Cubiro en el Estado Lara, Venezuela”. Originalmente, íbamos a ir a las “Cuevas del Carrao”, es un lugar que no he visitado y quería conocer, pero terminamos disfrutando de las hermosas vistas en una formación de Lomas que caracterizan este lugar.

Salimos de Barquisimeto a las 10:00 am hora local, pero logramos enrumbar en la travesía a las 10:30 am porque hicimos varias pausas para comprar dulces, comida y unas bebidas. Esto es algo elemental si vas con varias personas.

Cubiro queda en la "Sierra de Portuguesa", y esta formación geológica forma parte de los Andes que toca Venezuela. Las vistas desde estas alturas son hermosas, se siente como un predominio imponente de naturaleza que se asoma y te hace entremezclarte con ella.

Fuimos en uno de los autobuses de un familiar, todos íbamos cantando y sintiendo la emoción del aire que se erigía en las ventanas. Para llegar a "Cubiro" hay que ir por un sendero vial con muchas curvas estrechas, es decir, hay que tener mucho adiestramiento al conducir a mi modo de ver. En el camino se veía todo de una manera imponente, contemplar las vistas y la belleza del paisaje hace sentir una paz inigualable. Esto solamente era el principio.

We arrived at approximately 12:40 pm at "Cubiro", where we had to decide if we were going to the Carrao Caves or to the Hills. To go to the caves we had to leave the car in the parking lot and pay someone with a Ford F-350 (this type of vehicle is very common for transporting heavy loads). Why this vehicle? According to what the locals told us, the road has a steep slope that was in bad condition, and with our car we might not be able to go down or return. We would have to use this vehicle to reach this site.

Llegamos aproximadamente a eso de las 12:40 pm a "Cubiro", allí teníamos que decidir si íbamos a las Cuevas del Carrao o a las Lomas. Para ir a las cuevas debíamos dejar el carro en el estacionamiento y pagar a alguien con un carro Ford F-350 (este tipo de vehículos es muy común para el traslado de carga pesada). ¿Por qué este vehículo? Según lo que nos indicaron los lugareños es que el camino posee una pendiente inclinada que estaba en mal estado, y con nuestro carro quizás no podríamos bajar o retornar. Tendríamos que trasladarnos en este para poder llegar a este sitio.

We evaluated if it was convenient to go to the Carrao Caves and suddenly the fog began to impose itself, the temperatures began to drop drastically, that is to say, the cold increased (there was a great absence of heat). The Ford F-350 car could take us, but the truth is that we decided to change the place, since we were going with several children, but the truth is that it was a wonderful decision.

Evaluamos si era conveniente ir a las Cuevas del Carrao y de repente comenzó a imponerse la neblina, las temperaturas comenzaron a bajar drásticamente, es decir, el frío aumentó (había mucha ausencia de calor). El carro Ford F-350 podía llevarnos, pero la verdad es que decidimos cambiar el lugar, ya que íbamos con varios niños, pero la verdad es que fue maravillosa la decisión.

Upon arrival there was a striking or rather surprising presence of fog, to the point of making you think it was raining, but it was not, it was the condition of the environment itself. It was beautiful, it felt like a natural sequence that only this place offers. I focused on looking around and talking to people.

Cubiro has the village at the bottom of the Hills, and as you go up you find a space designed to receive tourists. A large parking lot with a linear border of local food stores. This is the starting point.

When you decide to enter the Hills to see the different views that the place offers, you will find a huge number of local vendors offering strawberries with cream, corn, candy and alcohol.

Before we started touring the "Cubiro Hills" we decided to try the strawberries with cream, I was lucky, I took advantage of the fact that someone would buy it for me. I was very happy, I really like strawberries with cream. By the way, they were very good and their value was 2 $, there were other sizes with other prices. The lady we bought from was very happy because there were so many of us.

After enjoying something sweet, we paused and began to see where we would set up, that is, where we would sit to view the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Antes de comenzar a recorrer las “Lomas de Cubiro” decidimos probar las fresas con crema, yo fui afortunado, aproveché que alguien me la compraría. Fui muy feliz, las fresas con crema me gustan mucho. Por cierto, estaban muy buenas y su valor era de 2 $, había otros tamaños con otros precios. La señora a la que le compramos estaba muy contenta porque éramos muchos.

Después de disfrutar algo dulce, pausamos y empezamos a ver dónde nos instalaríamos, es decir, el sitio en que nos sentaríamos para visualizar la belleza natural de los alrededores.

At that point, we saw a woman selling corn cobs (in Venezuela they call it jojoto). We decided to buy some from her. The price was also moderate: 2 portions for one dollar. One thing you must do if you go to the "Cubiro Hills" is to eat a good corn on the cob with hot butter while looking at the surroundings.

After eating and drinking, we set out to walk around and enjoy each of the places where you can see fields, the plains in the distance and the impressive mountains surrounding the hills that are outlined as a viewpoint formed by nature itself to visualize the beauty that imposes itself.

Two young women from my family decided to go horseback riding, and I stood there watching them and seeing that moment while I laughed a little. I preferred to let them do it while I watched them live that exciting moment. Wherever you look, watching or riding a horse in this place leaves something in your mind: the value of the emotion itself and how beautiful Venezuela is.

Luego de comer y comenzar a tomar, nos dispusimos a caminar, recorrer los alrededores y disfrutar cada uno de los lugares donde se ven sembradíos, la llanura a la lejanía y las impresionantes montañas que rodean las Lomas que se perfilan como un mirador formado por la propia naturaleza para visualizar la belleza que se impone.

Dos mujeres jóvenes de mi familia decidieron montar a caballo, yo me quedé mirándolas y viendo ese momento mientras me reía un poco. Preferí que lo hicieran ellas mientras yo las veía vivir ese instante emocionante. Por donde se visualice, mirar o montar a caballo en este lugar te deja algo en la mente marcado: El valor de la propia emoción y de lo hermosa que es Venezuela.

After the girls finished riding, we focused on going to the deepest or lower parts of the "Cubiro Hills", we wanted to see the magic of the bushes, the essence of the hidden views and what was in those spaces that we had never seen before.

Luego de que las chicas terminaran de montar a caballo, nos enfocamos en ir a lo más profundo o las partes más bajas de las “Lomas de Cubiro”, queríamos ver la magia de los arbustos, la esencia de las vistas escondidas y lo que estaba en esos espacios que nunca habíamos visto.

We found beautiful sites, and a perspective of angles that are only exhibited when you choose to explore. The views at the lowest point of the "Cubiro Hills" allowed us to see incredible natural angles that are only exhibited there.

Encontramos sitios hermosos, y una perspectiva de ángulos que solamente se exhiben cuando decides explorar. Las vistas en el punto más bajo de las “Lomas de Cubiro” nos permitieron ver de manera increíble los ángulos naturales que solamente se exhiben ahí.

Surprisingly you will get tired when you want to climb up to return to the place where the other people are with you on the trip, you will see a little of the rock formations at some points, but the satisfaction of feeling and seeing everything that exists leaves you with a priceless treasure in your mind that you want to treasure forever.

Upon returning to the point where everyone was seated, we ate Venezuelan wafers with dulce de leche while laughing and enjoying the breathtaking scenery that outlines this country in a hidden, small, but immensely incredible place.

Al regresar al punto donde estaban todos sentados, comimos obleas venezolanas (wafer) con dulce de leche mientras reíamos y disfrutábamos el imponente escenario que perfila este país en un lugar escondido, pequeño, pero inmensamente increíble.

If you come to the "Cubiro Hills" you must try a good strawberries and cream, feel the aroma of traditionalism and mingle with the culture of a place that shows its own identity and is emerging as a natural exotic site.

Si vienes a las “Lomas de Cubiro” debes probar una buena fresas con crema, sentir ese aroma del tradicionalismo y entremezclarte con la cultura de un lugar que muestra su identidad propia y se perfila como un sitio exótico natural.
