Farming Tales - How to optimize your farm?!

avatar

In this guide I want to give you some tips and calculations how you can optimize your farm in the WAX Blockchain game Farming Tales. If you are a new player or planning to start I suggest you to read my New Player Guide which gives you an overview about the game and how to get started with the gameplay. This guide will focus on different strategies in the game taking into acount the earnings, playtime and focus on different playstyles.

There are 3 different ways to get products and to start playing:

Animals:
producing animal based products, require a building to live, need food from Silo.
Low price for a small budget entry into the game. Only harvesting and cheap refilling required, but less margin with the produced products.

Gardens:
producing plant based products, require NFT seeds to grow different plants, need water from Water Tower
Higher price to get started and it requires seeds which must be bought on the secondary market. There are a lot of different seeds and the price fluctuates between 4 and 30 Wax depending on the price of the end product. Depending on the currently available quest it changes all the time. It requires more calculation and market prediction, but also have a higher margin.

Legendary Buildings:
producing legendary products, need food from Silo
Highest priced NFTs which producing legendary products which can only obtained from this buildings. They have limited mint numbers and can be bought on the secondary market or by completion of limited time quests.

These products can be refined to higher quality products to complete quests/tasks, craft animals/buildings or sell for SEST.

Silo and Water Tower Upgrade

First thing I suggest (and one of the most important things in my opinion) is to upgrade your Silo and/or Water Tower. This is so essential because the refill costs are always the same with 5 CBIT for Silo and 50 CBIT for Water Tower, but with higher capacity you get more food/water for the same price.

image.png

As you can see in the table with an epic rarity the cost per food/water unit is 50% less than with the standard buildings. They can be crafted ingame for SEST or bought on the secondary Market.
Rare Versions are between 20 and 25 WAX and have a very high return and will save you a lot of refill costs and making your animals/gardens more profitable.

image.png

You can earn SEST or WAX with crafting and selling products ingame or on secondary markets (Atomichub/Neftyblocks) to grow your farm and invest in something like a Silo or more animals to increase your product production.

image.png

Animal Earnings

The combination of Silo Rarity and Animal Rarity have impact on the cost per food and per harvest. All animal rarities have the same food cost per harvest, but higher rarities produce more products per harvest and therefore less food/product costs for a higher profit or margin.

Common Animal: 1 product
Rare Animal: 2 products
Epic Animal: 3 products

Note: Legendary animals have 3 times higher harvest time & food costs and produce 9 products. They only have the advantage that you don't have to harvest them so often.

Animals require buildings. If you have enough space to build on your farm, you should go for the cheapest price/slot building. There is no earning advantage in higher rarity buildings except if you run out of space on your farm and want to expand and stock up on animals.

Hen -> Hen Coop
Goose -> Geese Shelter
Cow, Sheep, Pig -> Stable

I have made a calculation sheet for many different things in Farming Tales. The Screenshots below are based on the current market prices and are in change all time.
This calculation gives an overview for the SILO and Animal Rarity combination and the profit margin based on the ingame SEST value of the products. A negative profit on certain combinations does not mean that it's unprofitable at all! Because these sheet does not take into consideration the boxing or crafting in New Waxchester!
A profitable combination means that the SEST exchange/gains is already positive only with harvesting. A higher profit can be made with crafting or boxing.

At the top I have mentioned the current Token prices. Silo Rarity and capacity with costs per food unit. In the bottom table are shown the different animal products with the ingame SEST value and the Food costs per harvest. On the right side the result of the different rarities is shown. Costs per product (higher rarities produce more products per harvest) and the profit which is product SEST value minus product costs.

image.png

image.png

image.png

As you can see with the standard common Silo no combination is in the profit zone right away. That's the reason why a Silo upgrade should always be focussed first. The Rare Silo isn't very expensive and gives you a great boost for a higher margin right away.

Common Animals might be a cheap entry into the game, but without Epic Silo they are often not profitable and to be they depend a lot on the secondary market prices of voucher and product chest.
I suggest rather to start with 1 rare animals + rare Silo instead of 2 common animals + rare Silo. Upgrading common animals with vouchers and blending into higher rarity can make your animals more profitable.

Base products can't be sold directly for SEST and you have to craft higher tier products in New Waxchester to sell for SEST. Another option is to mint chests of your produced items to sell them to other players for WAX. Instructions and calculation follow later in this guide.

image.png

Garden Earnings

Vegetable gardens have different rarities, which only increase the number of fields and have no direct impact on the earning potentials as long as your farm runs out of staking place.

To grow something in your gardens you need Seeds which can only be obtained by the legendary building Greenhouse. This produces 1 seed box per day which can be unpacked and contains 3 random seeds.

At the moment are 13 different seeds available and you can purchase Seed boxes and Seeds from Atomichub.
These seeds have a wide range between 4 and 35 Wax per pcs. depending on the product demand and price. Because it is a free market and depends on quest requirements/duration be careful. Seed and product price can be high, but until harvst is ready the price might already be lower. It's a free market and because of the longer harvesting times they require more to be up to date with announcements and quests.

image.png

Plants also require water from Water Silo for the harvest. The production costs are composed of seeds and water cost. Because of the high demand and relative slow harvest time the WAX value is at the moment a lot higher than the SEST value and therefore the Seed prices have an huge impact on the production costs.
At this level the products should be used for quests or sold as chest for WAX.

image.png

Tip: While harvesting always try to plan ahead your water usage. The different harvest times and water used can help you to use most of your water before you have to refill the water tower.
Harvest time goes from 3 days to 5 days and each day is 6 water cost.

image.png

image.png

Legendary Buildings

Legendary Buildings are limited buildings which produce special products like wood, honey or fish. These buildings are limited in mint numbers and can be obtained by whitelisted sales or via completing ingame quests in New Waxchester, which require different amount of higher quality products.

image.png

They are more expensive but they give you access to higher value products which have a higher reselling price and are necessary for a lot of required crafted products of the legendary quests. You can only stake 1 NFT from each legendary on your farm and harvest them every 6 hours and it costs 30 food.
(Greenhouse can be harvested only once per day, Hive can be staked multiple times)

  • Lumberjack: Wood
  • Fishing Pier: Fish
  • Hive: Honey
  • Hemp Field: Hemp
  • Vineyard: Grapes
  • Olive Tree: Olive
  • Peach Tree: Peach
  • Wheat Field: Wheat
  • Corn Field: Corn
  • Grass Field: Grass
  • Greenhouse: Seed Box

As every other product these legendary products have a SEST value, but depending on the ongoing quests and your crafting in New Waxchester the value can be increased.

image.png

With the actual token prices and a rare Silo the cost for the 30 food is the same as the SEST value of the product. With crafting to first or second level products can already be sold profitable for SEST.

image.png

Barn Upgrade

The free barn capacity is 100 products. Every products harvested or deposited from chests is lost if there is no space left. For starters with a small farm the free barn is ok for the beginning. To complete quests and for some crafting recipes it is necessary to have a higher barn capacity, because you have to store a higher amount of products at the same time.

For every animal crafting task and most of voucher tasks are more than 100 products required to complete the task. To get full access to every possibility to grow your farm a barn upgrade is indispensable.

There are 3 different rarities with increasing capacity. The legendary buildings can be leveled up until level 15 with a Barn Voucher which can be gained by completing a monthly ingame quest.

No Barn: 100
Rare Barn: 500
Epic Barn: 1000
Legendary LV1: 1500

In your barn you can select certain items and then sell them for SEST, but I would recommend to check first if you can get a better deal by selling it for Wax or complete a quest/task.
As you can see base products are grey and can't be sold directly for SEST.

image.png

Once a month a Rare Barn Quest is active for 1 week. You can complete this quest by the trader and he will give you a Rare Barn NFT by trading completing the task with the list of required products. The rare barn can then be blended into higher rarities with using Vouchers on the Neftyblock.

Be careful: if you unstake or blend your barn you get set back to 100 capacity and lose products which exceed this maximum. Before you blend/unstake make sure that you have less than 100 products in your barn. This will be solved with a new contract, but in the meanwhile be careful.

As every other NFT the barn can be bought from other players on the secondary market on Atomichub.

image.png

Mint Chests

You can craft different sizes of boxes with different quantities through all products. It's also possible to box the low quality products (eggs, wool, pork meat, milk). All you need is the minimum required quantity of the product and 1, 2 or 3 pieces of Wood for the box. You can get wood from the legendary Building Lumberjack or buy a box from the marketplace on Atomichub.

This is one elemental thing to take into consideration if you want to maximize your earnings. As already mentioned several times in this guide the products can be sold for the ingame SEST value in your barn or you create a NFT chest and sell or trade them to other players.

image.png

In this table I have calculated whether it is profitable to pack various products in boxes and sell them on Atomichub or not.

Given are the crafting costs which are referring to the previous tables based on a rare Silo / rare Water Tower and with rare animals.
This is with the current seed prices and token prices. Packing into a box requires wood and the price for packing was calculated with the current equivalent of 40 Wax per 20 wood.

The boxing price is made up of the crafting cost for the required number of products and the price for the wood. When selling on Atomichub you have to take into account that it can take longer until something sells and that other players want to sell something and can underbid you. There is also a 9% market fee to consider. This has been included in the calculation.

Products can be stored in boxes for a later time or can be used for trading with other players. In Farming Tales Discord there is a dedicated trade-channel where people are always active.

As shown at the beginning, the profit margin is higher with plant products, but this is only a snapshot and prices can change again at any time.

You should also consider that you can manufacture higher tier products in New Waxchester to trade or sell.
It may be more niche to sell them, but there could be less competition and possibly better margins.
Farming Tales is a game where there are different ways to achieve success.

image.png

Tip: If you list the boxes on Atomichub don't use the lowest listing option! All boxes are in the same price category and ignoring the boxed product. You can search different products in the game.boxes category and then set the sales price according to the price range of certain products.

image.png

image.png

Tasks and Vouchers

In New Waxchester there is the trader with different tasks/quests and a voucher market where you can exchange your products.

Trader: Here you can complete various quests/tasks. When you complete them you can craft common animals, get Legendary NFTs or exchange them for other products like coal or ironchunk.

Voucher Market: trade products for common and rare vouchers which are use for upgrading your animals and building to higher rarity. With completing the task you will receive a Voucher NFT in your WAX Wallet.

Completing Tasks are the third option to use your products. You can grow your farm with spending your harvested products to craft common animals or vouchers to upgrade your animals to improve your costs.
These NFTs can also be sold on Atomichub to earn WAX, which you can then invest in legendary buildings, different animals or other products.

In the calculation sheet below I have listed the available tasks with the rewards and the requirements. Craft costs are calculated with rare Silo and rare animal and the set market value and the token values are taken by the time of writing this guide.

image.png

Tip: completing task rewards you with NFT direct into your WAX wallet. For the coal and ironchunk task you get a chest which can be sold immediately on Atomichub. No wood for boxing necessary.

image.png

Quests

Quests are limited time events with higher requirements of refined products to complete.

A lot of harvesting, crafting and trading is required to complete these quests in time. If you can't complete these quests you should nevertheless take a look of the quest requirements. Other players who want to complete this quest are looking for the products and this will impact the market prices and you could make a nice profit by selling them your products.

Quests will be announced in Discord and you should always keep an eye on that.

You can complete the quests multiple times and sell and trade your NFT to people who don't want or can't complete the quest.

Barn Voucher Quest:
Once a month a weekly Barn Voucher quests is available. This only requires base and no legendary products. The Barn Voucher can be used to upgrad your Legendary Barn for more capacity or be sold/traded to other player.

Like the other quests you can try to complete the quest or getting advantage by selling/trading the required products at a higher price.

Some helpful tools to track your quest/task status are made by community members:

You have to login or insert your wallet and then you can see what you are missing or already have in barn.

Upgrading Animals & Buildings

Animals and Buildings can be upgraded into higher rarities by using the required animals and additional vouchers you get by completing tasks at the voucher market.

Upgrading animals has the advantage of lower harvest costs and this will increase your profit margin. All rarities produce the same quantity of products per day, but higher rarity require less harvest actions.
This is only the theory, because most of the common animals have very short harvest cooldowns between 1 and 3 hours you can't harvest all time on cooldown, because of busy workdays or sleep time. Therefore an epic animal with 6-10h cooldown will produce more products per day with less food cost.

As an example I have chosen the Goat animals. If you can harvest between 08:00 and 22:00 every day you have to harvest the common goat 8 times per day to receive 8 Goat milk, the rare goat 4 times for 8 goat milk, the epic goat 3 times for 9 goat milk and the legendary goat once a day for 9 goat milks.

image.png

image.png

Depending on your activity you won't be able to harvest every time with no idle time and if you miss one harvest on the common animal you are already down to 7 products/day.

Upgrading buildings like Silo, Water Tower gives you more capacity for food and water which improves your production. With Barn upgrade you get access to a higher storage and can complete tasks which require higher quantities of products like the animal crafting.

Animal buildings and gardens can be upgraded as well, but they only improve your farm if you are running out of space and can't stake more buildings. Sometimes it's cheaper to upgrade an existing building than getting a new one.

You can upgrade your animals and building on Neftyblocks.

There are several options for blending and you can choose the cheapest and best option for you.

Tip: Blending into rare and epic animal has a 2% chance of receiving a higher rarity animal. Instead of rare you can receive an epic or instead of epic a legendary.
Instead of blending 4 common animals + vouchers into epic you should blend 2 times 2 common animals + 1 voucher into rare animal and then 2 rare animal + 2 voucher into epic. The required items are the same, but you have 2 times more the chance of for the lucky 2%

image.png

Find the optimum & Diversification

At the end of this guide you have seen a lot of options how to optimizie your farm and earnings. To get the best results always depends on your time effort you want to spend and the market situation.
Crafting and selling for SEST is the fastest and less uncomplicated you can do. Selling on marketplace is affected by free market and it can take some time until you sell it.
Trading with other people could be faster, but requires more action and communication in Discord, but you might find people for longterm connections and you could find arrangements to work together on quests, depending on the buildings/animals you both have.

The Final calculation sheet is comparing all previous options with produced Goose Eggs:

image.png

I have compared all available usages for Goose Eggs. Because all have different quantities I calculated the profit per 100 used Goose Eggs.

Based on this calculation and the actual market and token prices the best thing to earn is completing the voucher task and sell or upgrade your animals.
The task with coal is not profitable because of the market fees. If you use it yourself or trade it might be an option.
If you only have one product you are limited in crafting because you can only craft Tier 1 recipes. With multiple animals and products you could craft higher tier products which are more valuable and increase your profits.
As an example with hen eggs you can craft omelette and with cow milk cow cheese. If you have both you can craft cheese omelettes and increase your SEST value more.

This is also my final tip for you:
Build your farm with different animals to get access to more products, which gives you access to more option of crafting and trading. Don't focus on one animal / plant just because it is now profitable. This could change over time and then you have to rework your farm.

And last but not least... Have fun, join the Discord and talk with other farmers. The most profitable ways isn't always the funniest. Play Farming Tales like a game and enjoy it.
