[MONOMAD] Lo mejor fue no tener un plan / It was best not to have a plan

De aquel día recuerdo que andaba por el Vedado, cerca del Pabellón Cuba, y encontré a una amiga. Me dijo que había un concierto de Polito Ibáñez y yo me puse contenta porque llevaba mi cámara.

I remember that day I was walking in Vedado, near the Pabellón Cuba, and I met a friend. She told me there was a Polito Ibáñez concert and I was happy because I had my camera with me.

No tenía hasta el momento fotos de él en un concierto propio, pero sí alguna que otra como invitado en la presentación de alguien más.

Hace un rato, revisando mis archivos, tropecé con este recuerdo y me gustaría traerlo acá, al #Monomad Challenge, como el de una tarde en que lo mejor fue no tener un plan.

So far I had no photos of him in a concert of his own, but I did have a few as a guest in someone else's presentation.

A while ago, going through my archives, I stumbled upon this memory and I would like to bring it here, to the #Monomad Challenge, as the one of an afternoon when the best thing was not having a plan.

"Las cosas simples" Polito Ibañez - 2009

Esta es una de las canciones que más me gusta de su repertorio. Pero también son muy conocidas "Sombras amarillas", "Somos números" y "Recuento", por mencionar algunas. Hay muchos temas de este cantautor, disponibles en Youtube.

This is one of the songs I like the most from his repertoire. But "Sombras amarillas", "Somos números" and "Recuento" are also very well known, to mention a few. There are many songs by this singer-songwriter, available on Youtube.

Aquella oportunidad que tuve de fotografiarlo fue de lujo, pues compartió escenario con William Vivanco y Yasek Manzano, entre otros talentosos músicos.

The opportunity I had to photograph him was a luxury, as he shared the stage with William Vivanco and Yasek Manzano, among other talented musicians.

El lugar no es tan amplio, y se llenó de gente. Soy bajita de estatura y tuve que luchar bastante para obtener estas fotos desde la multitud.

The place is not that large, and it was crowded. I am short in stature and had to struggle quite a bit to get these photos from the crowd.

Aunque tenía un lente de 200 mm, no fue fácil. Todos estaban muy emocionados, coreando las canciones de Polito, inquietos, y -para serte sincera- yo tampoco escapaba de aquel influjo, pues me sé algunas de memoria.

Although I had a 200 mm lens, it was not easy. Everyone was very excited, singing Polito's songs in chorus, restless, and -to be honest- I didn't escape that influence either, since I know some of them by heart.

Es bonito mirar las fotos y recordar. No imaginábamos entonces que un año después tendríamos una pandemia que nos cambiaría la vida, que nos robaría también algunas vidas... y allí estábamos entre canciones de amor, en un delirio, celebrando -como siempre- la alegría.

A propósito, quiero también que escuches este tema que me encanta.

It is nice to look at the photos and remember. We did not imagine then that a year later we would have a pandemic that would change our lives, that would also steal some lives... and there we were between love songs, in a delirium, celebrating -as always- joy.

By the way, I also want you to listen to this song that I love.

Mientras escribo, llegan a mis oídos sus canciones hermosas y poéticas, que hablan del hombre, el tiempo, la verdad, el amor, y que con mucha intuición las ubica en esta ciudad nuestra, La Habana, repleta de pasos y ecos.

As I write, I hear his beautiful and poetic songs, which speak of man, time, truth, love, and with great intuition he places them in this city of ours, Havana, full of footsteps and echoes.
