Contrast

These images were taken from a car moving at high speed. The first one was at 7:19 am. I had the mission to capture some pictures of the runners participating in the Havana Marathon.

The driver had to move quickly through streets with little traffic to take me to some points chosen by me, such as the Capitol, the side street of the Museum of Fine Arts and Malecon.

This was pure adrenaline. Because the idea was to document as well as possible the passage of the marathoners through the different points of the city.

We did this route twice that day to cover the two starts, the 6 am and the 7 am. I noticed that the driver improved the route the second time. You can see in this map the starting point and the one at Prado and Malecón, where I wanted to arrive... we couldn't go in the car in the middle of the runners, so we had to take surrounding streets, respecting the traffic laws, all the streets are not the same direction, so the experience of the driver would be vital to be on time at the marked points.

I don't know for sure why I took these photos. It was not premeditated. I think I was attracted by the fact that I was passing through streets that I don't normally walk. My inner voice spoke and gave me the order to shoot.

Then, where the landscape changes for the better, it must have been inertia that kept me shooting, because I have walked these places a thousand times.

The last image is a view of the Great Theater of Havana Alicia Alonso, crossing the street, after the driver parked for me to move on foot to the front of the Capitol. It was all very fast, I surprise myself with my agility. At that moment I was thinking of nothing else but doing my job.

When I went back to look at my files, I was amazed not only at how fast we moved, but how I was able to capture the stark contrasts of my city in just four minutes.

And this is where some verses are peeking through, the muse is knocking on my door.

Estas imágenes fueron tomadas desde un auto que se movía a gran velocidad. A las 7:19 am se hizo la primera. Yo tenía la misión de capturar algunas fotos de los corredores que participaban en la Maratón de La Habana.

El chofer debía moverse velozmente por calles poco transitadas para llevarme a algunos puntos elegidos por mí, como el Capitolio, la calle lateral del Museo de Bellas Artes y Malecón.

Esto era pura adrenalina. Porque la idea era documentar lo mejor posible el paso de los maratonistas por los diferentes puntos de la ciudad.

Ese día hicimos este trayecto dos veces para cubrir las dos arrancadas, la de las 6 am y la de las 7 am. Me percaté de que el chofer mejoró la ruta en la segunda oportunidad. Puedes ver en este mapa el punto de salida y el de Prado y Malecón, adonde yo quería llegar... nosotros no podíamos ir en el auto en medio de los corredores, así que teníamos que tomar calles aledañas, respetando las leyes del tránsito, todas las calles no son del mismo sentido, así que la experiencia del chofer sería vital para estar a tiempo en los puntos marcados.

No sé a ciencia cierta por qué hice estas fotos. No fue premeditado. Creo que me sentí atraída por el hecho de estar pasando por calles que normalmente no recorro. Habló mi voz interior y me dio la orden de disparar.

Luego, donde el paisaje cambia para mejor, habrá sido la inercia la responsable de que siguiera disparando, porque estos lugares sí los he caminado mil veces.

La última imagen es una vista del Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, cruzando la calle, después que el chofer aparcó para que yo me moviera a pie hasta el frente del Capitolio. Fue todo muy rápido, me sorprendo yo misma de mi agilidad. En ese momento no pensaba en otra cosa que hacer mi trabajo.

Cuando volví a mirar mis archivos, me sorprendí no solo de la velocidad con que nos movimos, sino de cómo pude captar los duros contrastes de mi ciudad en apenas cuatro minutos.

Y aquí es donde se asoman algunos versos, la musa está tocando mi puerta.
