Cook-up at the office - Second Edition

Hello everyone,

On the last week of March we had the second edition of our community lunch at the office. It was another great success, just like the first one. You can read about the first one here.

The cook-up happens every 2 months and in each event we have a team cooking or buying meals for the whole office. This time we had a team of 5 people responsible for feeding us all. It was an amazing mix of food from China, India, Catalonia and Northern Spain. You will see from the photos here that the team did an incredible job bringing a nice variety of dishes, including 2 desserts.

Although all the food was really good, and this time I made an effort to try every one of them, there are some highlights.

One of dishes that impressed me the most on this edition was the sweet and sour pork ribs. Pork is my favourite meat and those ribs were very well seasoned and cooked. And the most incredible is that the colleague that made it does not cook often. He is just learning to cook for himself and decided to make this dish that his friend had taught him. It turned out great and people were complimenting him on the good work.

Another highlight for me on this edition was that the colleagues that usually cook very spicy meals tried to reduce the hotness of their meals so more of us could enjoy it. That was a nice gesture of them, and I believe it took some effort since they are so used to eat spicy food that they don’t know exactly what is manageable for people like me that don’t eat anything spicy. The Chinese colleague decided to make the chilli sauce and leave it apart for people to add to their meal as they preferred. That was perfect for me because I loved her chicken with mushroom dish. The Indian colleague cooked a meal with a much lower level of spiciness than the usual for him, and it turned out quite good. My tolerance for chilli is not zero but is very close to it. I tried a little bit of his Biriyani, and even though it was hotter than what I’m used to, I was able to appreciate the taste of the dish. Maybe after a few more editions of this event my tolerance for spicy food will increase.

People are getting really excited about these events and I can’t wait to see what the next group will come up with. Being in the first team to cook ended up a great thing for me. I’m not anxious waiting for my turn and our team set the tone for the event. Now every team wants their cook-up to be as good as ours was and I can just relax and appreciate all the dishes.

Nice spread of food there. I love the idea of a potluck in a multicultural environment, especially when everybody takes effort to try to make a local dish. :)

Excellent presentation post on this event, and there are a lot of dishes there that look exquisite and extremely tasty!
The more you eat of the spicy just a little bit each time, not two or three times, but over a period of time you will build a taste and tolerance for spicier food.
I don't go for the heat, I go for the full flavor.

Thank you 😊
Yeah, I never had much exposure to spicy food before. Maybe now that they are everywhere around me, I will try to build my tolerance.
