Memoir Monday: The power is within you
The power is within you
Why did I start writing this? Because I believe that we do not see the world as it is, but as we are. Our beliefs form a screen through which we see the world. I grew up seeing and receiving a culture that I often clashed with and had to confront. That narrow view that can exist in a small town and within a family with little education can be very “emasculating” and hopeless. To live believing what I was told or what I saw, sometimes it was mandatory to be at peace with the rectum. In my environment, there were many people remembering the obligatory nature of believing and respecting the system, the institutions, especially the religious, political and social ones.
Traveling also provided me with elements to question, to not believe, to know how to differentiate, but especially to know myself and recognize myself in others. As I appreciated other landscapes, as I met other people, I could be more sure of what I wanted to be and do, and what I did not want to become.
In the last 10 years I have seen more transformations and changes in the world than I have seen in my entire life. They are dizzying changes of such depth that we could say that the ability to adapt and find happiness in adverse circumstances has become crucial. The economic, political, social crisis, the pandemic, A.I., materialism, manipulation, make it clear that the world can be a threat, but we should not close our thoughts: changes are inevitable.
It's so vital to a person's understanding of themselves to expand their vision so they can see a more accurate view of their culture and how the world works. Travel and reading/education (which is like traveling without physically moving) is the key. It was interesting to see the change in our son after we took him on his first overseas trip to Ireland last fall. He came back a very different person with a much broader world view. We'd been telling him for years how much better life was abroad but he couldn't fully grasp it until he experienced it for himself. Thanks for contributing to Memoir Monday again, Nancy! Enjoy your day.
Likewise, my friend. It's a pleasure to participate. Take care and a hug
Thank you very much for the nomination, friend. Regards
One thing for me is that we have always had change, but now with the internet we actually see it much faster. Things happen instantly.
I just live in the now and enjoy my time, because one day there won't be a tomorrow.
I like the idea of living in the present. I try not to get too involved and live quietly. Living near the sea also helps a lot, because the noise of the sea calms my thoughts. As for the internet, sometimes it's a necessity, but sometimes I need to disconnect. Thanks for your comment and greetings from this shore.
I absolutely agree with you about the massive changes of the past decade @nancybriti1, and that each of us see the world through different eyes, literally ;) and figuratively!
Books opens one up to the world out there, and of course the ultimate is when we get to see and experience the worlds of others first-hand.
That is the only way to survive in a world that's changing at an amazing pace!
Wonderful blog Nancy!
Yes, those of us who were born in the last century have been able to see some changes that we only saw in movies or literature. Those changes have arrived and more are coming. The idea is to take from each of these changes what interests or favors us. Thank you, @lizelle for your comment and support. Hugs
