Ficción: El último hombre frente al mar/ The last man in front of the sea (ESP/ ENG)
Loco me iba a volver si me hubiese ido y te hubiese dejado aquí, Matilde.

The last man in front of the sea
I don't know if I dreamed it or it was true, Matilde, but all this was full of houses. There was not the desolation that there is now, but children and dogs in the streets, ships anchored in all this immense sea and people, many people, waving and working.
Everyone wanted to stay here. This was the perfect place to spend the last years of your life or to spend vacations. I don't know if I dreamed it, but there was a big lighthouse there, one of those that light up at night, and boats would come here from all sides to look for the safety that they didn't have out to sea.
But when the sea became furious and turned into one of those big monsters that appear on TV, it took everything with it, Matilde: the children, the dogs, the boats and the people. The waves were bigger than the houses and the lighthouse itself, I think, or I don't know if I dreamt it. The waves came and took away or destroyed everything. Do you remember how I felt, Matilde, after I came back from shopping, when I saw that there was nothing and nobody left here, because the people who didn't leave with the sea, also left here because of fear.
Those were days of anguish looking for you, calling you: “Matilde, Matilde, Matilde” and you didn't answer either, woman. I remember that people asked me to leave too because I was going to go crazy here. I would go crazy if I had gone away and left you here, Matilde. That would have been death for me.
That's why I ran so they wouldn't catch me and I threw myself into the sea and when they left, I came back. Inside every corner I looked for you, under the stones I looked for you and I even waited at night, in front of the sea, for the waves to bring you back, to bring you back here, but only the foam came, caressed my feet or my fingers and then left, leaving me with the feeling of sadness, the one I had before and after.
I have the doubt if this is real or I dreamed it, but someone has to talk about what happened here, how we came to this. That's why I stayed, that's why and for you, Matilde, even if you don't care, because no matter how much I talk to you, you don't answer, and even if I don't say anything, the silence weighs on me, although I also believe that sometimes the waves of the sea speak for you.
