Ficción: El perseguido/ The persecuted (ESP/ ENG) Texto original de @nancybriti1
The one who was fleeing was tired, he had several days without sleep and without eating. Without stopping for a second he had crossed some mountains and some rivers, and yet those who were chasing him, who were from the government, were about to catch up with him. He knew it, he could feel the gallop of their horses, the breath of their executioners behind his neck. If he could at least make it across the border, he would be safe from the government, but that would require another day's journey, and he feared that he would be caught before he reached his goal.
As he was walking, the man found a donkey caught in a rabbit trap. If he stopped to help the donkey, he could be caught by his pursuers, but if he left the donkey there, the donkey would surely die:
_Poor donkey, he does not deserve this fate! -said the poor man and began to help the animal out of the trap. Although he tried to do it quickly, it took him several hours to free it. Seeing the animal free, he had the idea of taking it to follow the road, but he saw that the animal was hurt, wounded, tired, and he said again:
Poor donkey, I had better leave him here, so that he may recover, and so he did: he left the animal in the middle of the road, although he was able to mount on him and run away more easily.
When the pursued man took the path that led to the right, the donkey, as if it knew everything and wanted to help the man in any way, began to walk to the left. His footprints were evident and clear above the ground, so when the government people arrived and saw the animal's tracks, they said:
_He got a donkey and now rides on it. He does not know that now it will be easier to find him - and so they went after the animal which was walking in the opposite direction to the one pursued. When the animal had advanced through high mountains and dense forests, it stopped to drink water in a river. Then the pursuers arrived and thought they had finally caught the fleeing man, but they had not. The fleeing man would run no more, he had crossed the border and was a free man out of his country.
