Hello everyone, I hope you are well 🙂 Today I come to show you and tell you a little about the furnas located on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. I loved going to this place even though the smell wasn't very pleasant 🤣

Upon parking the car, I was immediately amazed by the stunning landscape, even though it was a little far from the place. The natural beauty of Furnas, with its smoking fumaroles and lush vegetation, already anticipated the unique experience that was to come. The vibrant cores and the contrast between the volcanic earth and the surrounding greenery created an almost surreal setting, making me feel very good.

As I got closer, the scenery became even more impressive. I mentioned to my boyfriend that that place was really incredible. The immense smoke from the fumaroles rises into the air, creating a mysterious and magical atmosphere. The gentle sound of the earth bubbling and the heat emanating from the ground gave an almost otherworldly sensation. The fumaroles, constantly belching steam, testified to the latent geothermal energy beneath our feet, reminding us of the power of nature.

When walking between the fumaroles, the smoke emanating from them enveloped the environment in a subtle mist, providing a feeling of tranquility and introspection. The mixture of the smell of sulfur with the fresh air of Furnas creates a unique sensory experience. Watching residents and visitors prepare food in the steaming holes, I realized how this geothermal tradition is deeply rooted in the region's culture and everyday life, connecting people and nature in a harmonious and respectful way. The landscape is breathtaking. The green mountains, covered in lush vegetation, form an impressive contrast with the fumaroles that release dense clouds of vapor into the air. The white smoke from the fumaroles rises continuously, creating a unique natural spectacle, which mixes with the characteristic aroma of sulfur. This impressive setting, where the serenity of the green mountains meets the strength and mystery of volcanic activity, offers an unparalleled visual and sensory experience, making Furnas an unmissable destination for visitors.

In Furnas, a unique tradition is to cook food using the geothermal heat of the fumaroles. The famous Furnas stew is prepared by burying pots of meat, vegetables and potatoes in hot soil, where they cook slowly for several hours. The result is a tasty dish, full of unique flavors that only volcanic earth can provide.

During my visit I couldn't resist and bought cooked corn in Furnas. Prepared in the same traditional way, the corn is left in natural boilers until it reaches perfection. The soft texture and slightly smoky flavor provided this unforgettable gastronomic experience, allowing me to taste the delicious cuisine of this fascinating volcanic region of the Azores.

Ao estacionar o carro, fiquei imediatamente maravilhado com a paisagem deslumbrante, apesar de estar um pouco longe do local. A beleza natural das Furnas, com as suas fumarolas fumegantes e a vegetação exuberante, já antecipava a experiência única que estava por vir. Os núcleos vibrantes e o contraste entre a terra vulcânica e a vegetação envolvente criaram um cenário quase surreal, fazendo-me sentir muito bem.

À medida que me aproximava, o cenário ficava ainda mais impressionante. Mencionei ao meu namorado que aquele lugar era realmente incrível. A imensa fumaça das fumarolas sobe no ar, criando uma atmosfera misteriosa e mágica. O som suave da terra borbulhando e o calor que emanava do solo davam uma sensação quase sobrenatural. As fumarolas, expelindo constantemente vapor, testemunhavam a energia geotérmica latente sob os nossos pés, lembrando-nos do poder da natureza.

Ao caminhar entre as fumarolas, a fumaça que emanava delas envolvia o ambiente em uma névoa sutil, proporcionando uma sensação de tranquilidade e introspecção. Ao observar moradores e visitantes prepararem a comida nos buracos fumegantes, percebi como esta tradição geotérmica está profundamente enraizada na cultura e no dia a dia da região, conectando as pessoas e a natureza de forma harmoniosa e respeitosa. Durante a minha visita não resisti e comprei milho cozido nas Furnas. Preparado da mesma forma tradicional, o milho é deixado em caldeiras naturais até atingir a perfeição. A textura macia e o sabor ligeiramente fumado proporcionaram esta experiência gastronómica inesquecível, permitindo-me provar a deliciosa gastronomia desta fascinante região vulcânica dos Açores.
