Visit to the Oman Museum - Oman Across Ages Museum - Part 1

avatar

In the month of March, a new Museum was inaugurated in Oman. It's called "Oman Across the Ages Museum" This museum is a master piece when it comes to architecture not only that the museum itself is just marvelous. It's one of a kind. It has a lot of virtual effects. It is Oman's new cultural landmark built with immersive high-tech exhibition.
It is very different from a typical museum that one would visit where you see things and read the boards. Here there are physical things as well as you can also immerse in 2D and 3D experiences, there is a map projection technology used and quite a lot of video exhibitions. It talks about life Oman from how it has transformed in millions of years in terms of landscapes and geography.

Well, I am going to make this museum post into 4 parts because there is so much to cover, and this will also stay for my own reference in the years to come.

The building itself is very impressive.

It looks like one from some of the Sci-fiction movie

This is the car of the Late Sultan Qaboos (May peace be upon him) who had laid the foundation of this museum. It is kept in his honor since he had travelled in this car to lay the foundation of the museum in 2013.

As we enter the museum.
This is a replica of a Frankincense tree. Over the 100s of years Oman's civilization has been based on frankincense trade. It's a significance of Oman's heritage and culture.

Like all other Lands the land of Oman has also undergone massive climate transformations from being completely submerged in the Sea to the Ice-age and then a green tapestry and now as we see it today with Mountains, Sea and Desert. We all keep talking about climate change, but to think of it, this has always been the natural process and the changes will keep happening. Dry lands will become lush green and deserts will become icy regions in the other million years to come.

That's a visual presentation of the transformation of our planet and highlighting Oman on it 220 to 90 million years ago.

10000 years ago, which was the end of the last ice age in this region

Oman is rich with natural resources, so its current economy is also not only dependent on Oil.

So here is my favorite part Rocks and Stones from different time periods. I wonder sometimes why did I not become a Geologist. I have such strong affinity to these things that it would have been a good career for me. In my school days I did not enjoy physics and chemistry much, probably that was the reason.

These are some rock pieces from million years ago, some also meteorites fallen from space.

Some of them you can see years mentioned

Those are fossilized leaves

That's a piece of a fossilized tree trunk, it is 270 million years ago. The tree trunk has transitioned into a stone over a period of time. I touched it to see and it was stone
image.png

This is a stone discovered with human footprints. The footprints are odd they are wide and small
image.png

This is a Shell midden. It consists of the remains of shellfish, bones of fish and remains of other marine life.

I will stop here and will continue in the next blogs

And the thing that I learned is that Trees that old can get transitioned into stones. I never thought such a thing could happen in nature

Wow, museum is impressively decorated with eye catching artefacts and the glimpse into the educative projection of the Earth across the ages was really informative. The Sultan's car is really cool :)

There were many Cars from his personal collection at display and some of them vintage while others of the modern day, and it is interesting to see these things

Indeed! It's quite interesting to see some of his personal car collection. It sort of gives one a glimpse of the type of person he is.
