๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐ŸŒปSublime Sunday๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’– by @c0ff33a - The Views of Khumbu Glacier

Kumbhu region falls on the northeastern side of Nepal on the Nepal side of Mount Everest. During the trek I got to learn a lot about this place and the life of the people who live here. If you visit this place, you will feel like you are going back in time. There are many small villages that fall in this region and the life here is very simple and minimal. As we go higher up in this region there are majorly tea houses only that one finds and not many villages with people staying there permanently. The people who run the tea houses do live here.

It's fascinating to learn about their lives and ways of living. In colder regions there are homes with insulation and protection against winters, but here that's not the case. The protection here is through traditional ways, like the chimney heating system which has to be operated manually and it keeps the place warm. Everything is very scarce in this place and hence it is also priced highly. The internet services are also poor. Food choices are limited, there are no means of entertainment. All you have is amazing sights of nature and mountains. I went in May which is supposed to be summer months and yet I was freezing out, imagine what winters would do over here.

The Khumbu region is stunningly beautiful and one must see it to believe it. Also I feel it is worth it to visit this place once in lifetime. If one cannot trek then there are other means of travel like the horse ride or helicopter. There is no motor way here. Though trekking is the best way to explore this region. As you keep moving up towards the Everest, the views start changing. On te lower grounds we keep seeing the Dudh Kosi river, but in the last 2 days the river gets out of sight and then you start seeing the peaks of the different mountains all around.

Gorakshep is the village one before the Base camp and the trekking path is also challenging here because the path is full of glacier moraine with large rocks, which is difficult to walk and the altitude makes it all the more difficult. But again the views here of the Khumbu glacier is simply breathtaking. I have never seen anything like this in my life and for me it was very fascinating. I could not believe something like this exists on Earth till I saw it.

The Khumbu glaciers are believed to have formed 500k years ago during the last Ice age period and these glaciers can run down to 300 ft at certain points. They are also supposed to be dangerous and it is the most challenging path to cross for the mountaineers aiming to reach the Everest peak. The pictures that I share here are the starting paths of the glacier, as it goes higher it gets more and more treacherous. Looking it from far one will not get an idea of how dangerous they can be, it's only when one attempts to cross them, they will know.

These are like small hills of ice.

As people move up from Base camp towards the Everest peak there are more and more glaciers that they have to cross. Also my tour guide informed me that going up to the Everest there is not only one route and one of the quicker routes is going through these glaciers which is a shorter route but a very difficult one. The climbers use ladders to move from one point to another while crossing these glaciers. I have seen some videos and surely it is very challenging.

That's the Base camp

On trekking from Gorakshep to EBC we start seeing these glaciers

Such a beauty this place is

After reaching the peak I felt like, wish I had strength and training to go up further but the fact is that I do not have that capacity and I had to end up at the base camp. But doing this much also meant a very big accomplishment for me.

I feel so lucky that I had an opportunity to see all of this in real in my life time. In this moment I feel that all the 9 days effort was worth it reaching this place.

Thank you for visiting my blog. ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒธ

The sights are amazing, nature is indeed wonderful, when you think you have seen it all, you see something far more fascinating than what you're used to.
