In any part of the world, I have seen that some of the best foods you get are from the street side food stalls, and so it is the same in Mumbai. Here the most famous street foods are the Vada pav, pav bhaji, kebabs, dosa, sandwiches and many more such dishes. Once you eat you also may want to drink something and for that a glass of Sugarcane juice is refreshing. On all the commercial streets of Mumbai you will find some Sugarcane juice stalls and you will always find a rush at these stalls. One is Sugarcane and the other is Fresh Lime mixed with Soda or water which we call it Nimbu Pani. You will always find them next to food stalls.

When I was young and would go out with my daddy for work in these areas, we would never miss having a glass of Sugarcane juice, especially during day time when it is hot, a glass of it is very refreshing. And it is also one of the cheapest that you can get. A glass of juice will cost a little more than a bottle of water. Not to forget Sugarcane juice is filled with Vitamin C and contains antioxidants so it's good for the summer and to keep you hydrated from the heat.

Over the years not much has changed with this particular one. Before they used to have a manual machine where they would put the sugarcanes and crush them by turning the wheel manually of the machine. That was a very tedious one, as the first 2 rounds takes a lot of effort. Since some last 15 years those manual machines are now replaced with electric ones, which is quite a comfort for these people. The one difference I noticed this time was the glasses. In all this time they served the juice in a glass cup but nowadays they have started serving it in paper cups, it is hygienic for sure. The glass ones they would just rinse and again reuse. Even with that people would not stop having it, that's how the life here is :-) For the tourist, it is comforting, else many would refrain from having it.

The juice is collected in a bowl and then served. They know the quantity so they will only crush that many canes as per the order. It's always freshly made in front of you and served.

The other thing is that you will always have options of selecting if you want to have a full glass or a half glass. Ideally, I always prefer a half glass, because I do not want to consume too much liquid when I am out for work, else it's a trouble again if I have to use the washroom. Yesterday when I was out for my work, I made it a point to have 1 small glass of the juice. These things make me remind of the time spent with my daddy, these were always some special things that we did together. We would never miss it when we were out for any work.

It is one of the best summer drinks that you can have and Mumbai streets are famous for it. Whenever anyone visits Mumbai, they want to try this out, because they have already read or heard about it. If you happen to visit Mumbai, you should not miss this one for sure.
