A visit to the Farm House

This was a while ago when I was in Mumbai, I had made a visit to one of my friend's farm house. She has developed this farm house in the last 3 years. Since I also have plans to do some farming in my backyard, I wanted some tips from her. Her garden is extra ordinary. It is spread over a land area of 4 acres, it's huge and she grows almost every vegetable, fruits, herbs and spices. In the next 2 years' time, she plans to start doing business from her garden. She has done tie ups with some of the online merchandise where she can sell her products. Right now, she is in a full-time job and then she is managing her farm house as well, but 2 years down the line she plans to retire from the job and only focus full time on the farming. It has been her childhood dream and she has been able to fulfill it.

It's not easy to do these things, but she has achieved it and not to ignore that her husband did not support her much, because he thought it was foolish of her to put her job at stake and get into farming. Though now he appreciates the idea and the work behind it. This is a common mentality; people feel that farming cannot be taken up as a main occupation since it may not fetch very good income. To an extent yes, it is true, because the conditions are such that the farmer barely gets any money even though if the product has demand in the market. It goes through so many levels from the farmer till it reaches the end consumer, that even though the cost price of it is low but going through these levels the prices increase and it becomes costly.

I did get to learn a lot from her on farming, she has given me some tips which I am hopeful will be useful for me. Gardening is such a fulfilling activity and being in this environment all the time makes one so much connected to nature and mother Earth. Let me take you through her farm house.

There are so many varieties of plants in the garden, I am not going to name all of them as some of them even I do not remember now.

In this section a lot of Sapota trees are there. They were already there on this land when she bought it.

She has also installed a Solar Panel on her Terrace

All the fresh growth from the garden. She put it for us, whatever we would want to take.

So much of effort and work goes in maintaining a place like this, but I am sure it is all worth it and very fulfilling also.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

Lovely farm house with budding trees and plants! Farming is something that I aspire to do, for the sake of understanding the different types of plants and their healing properties. Over here, there's a whole science to it.

Absolutely, if you understand it well you will get most of the medicine from them.

Stunning place! Looks like a rainforest. So green everything. What I love most about farming and having your own veg & fruits is the fact that you eat high frequency fresh produce. That is pure health.

It's a huge area, full of trees and plants. You are right, when you look at it from the terrace it does look like a mini rainforest

Your story reminds me so much of when I made a mini garden in the backyard of my house, which was tiny, but I managed to plant a few of the plants we ate during the times of acute crisis in Venezuela.
My partner used to tell me that he was going to turn the backyard into the jungle from the movie Jumanji, and I pretended not to listen.
When we sold the house so we could emigrate, what I missed the most were my plants, which I was sure would be cut down to expand the house.
To be able to have a piece of land to grow even a few plants for seasoning will always be a blessing.

Having you own little space and just growing it for your own needs also is sufficient in today's time. I am sure you must be missing it. For me, I never had it before due to space constraint, but I always wanted to and now I am going to have it which makes me very happy

Till I saw this one, I was not aware of it. I read it through and understand that it's difficult to source as well.

wow...a green heaven!

what interesting fruits your friend has!
I even haven't ever seen them, those ones on the plate...so exotic...

black ginger? also have no idea about it.
we have only a classical one, and here it's about 10$ per a kg.
During Covid times a fake was popular that it protects from the virus, and the price grew to 100$;))))
it was a crazy circus....

10$ 😱 for a normal ginger, that's like too much. In India we would get it at 3$. In your place it must be getting imported and hence it's so expensive. Then there is Chinese ginger which we get here in Oman and that's like around 1$ a kg, but it is very different and you can make out, it barely has any nutritional properties in it.
Ginger is one of the most basic herb used in Indian kitchen, used almost in every dish that we make.
You bet, some of the most craziest things happened during Covid times.

You have done this very well because this is the best fertile soil for farming., In which you can plant many plants and also sale them, this will be good for the environment and you can also get benefits. This is the most precious gift of nature.
