The beginning of the rice planting year is starting soon
Rice planting is the majority activity in the Cariu District area.... yes... it could be said to be a hereditary activity that has been carried out since our ancestors, but with advances in technology and science, farmers should be able to implement more efficient and productive planting systems so that Food needs will be met from domestic production and farmers' welfare will increase.
Farmers must not stop learning about the most up-to-date techniques for cultivating lowland rice, starting from understanding the growing conditions and technical implementation of lowland rice cultivation itself.
To grow well, rice plants require high rainfall of approximately 1500-2000 millimeters per year at an altitude of between 0-1500 meters above sea level with an optimal temperature of 23 degrees Celsius. Rice will grow optimally with exposure to direct sunlight without being obstructed by anything, including shady trees. The availability of water in paddy rice cultivation is very important even though rice can actually be planted in all seasons. Soil that is suitable for growing rice is soil that contains clay, sand and dust.
The implementation of the technique of planting lowland rice should begin with measuring the acidity level of the soil so that the soil can be added with lime if the soil is too acidic. To measure soil acidity levels that are suitable for rice plants, you can use a liquid pH tester, pH meter, or litmus paper. Measurements are only carried out at certain sample points taken in a zigzag manner.
Seedlings are one of the important things in planting rice that must be prepared well. The seed bed needs to be made well because this seed bed will determine the quality of the rice that will later be planted in the rice fields. For seedlings with near perfect results, farmers need to select superior seeds in the amount of 25-30 kilograms per hectare of rice fields to be planted. The seeding location must be in fertile soil with full sun exposure. The beds are made with dimensions of 1 x 4 meters with a height of 20-30 centimeters.
Please remember that if the land to be planted with rice has an area of one hectare, there are four seedbeds that need to be prepared. As a tip to protect young rice seedlings from mouse attacks, it is a good idea for farmers to install plastic fences around the beds. Farmers must not forget to provide one kilogram of NPK fertilizer in the ratio 15-15-15 for four beds. Before they are ready to be sown, the seeds must be soaked for one night.
