[ESP-ENG] Film Review: Candy (2006)
Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv el día de hoy quiero compartir una nueva reseña de una película bastante antigua y de la cual no tenía conocimiento hasta que encontré en la app de Letterboxd dónde puedes encontrar películas de todos los géneros y de cualquier año y poder guardarlas en una lista, así que la conseguí en mi lista de películas que había guardado hace mucho tiempo y no sabía que estaba allí. Lo que recuerdo es que siempre me interesó la trama de esta película y además de que tiene actores tan buenos como Heath Ledger y Abbie Cornish, una trama bastante cruda sobre una realidad que viven muchas personas y que algunas veces no logran salir con vida de esta situación tan difícil como lo es la adicción a las drogas. Así que los invito a leer mi reseña de la película Candy.
Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community today I want to share a new review of a pretty old movie and of which I had no knowledge until I found in the Letterboxd app where you can find movies of all genres and of any year and be able to save them in a list, so I got it in my list of movies that I had saved a long time ago and did not know it was there. What I remember is that I was always interested in the plot of this movie and besides that it has such good actors like Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish, a pretty raw plot about a reality that many people live and sometimes they do not manage to get out alive from this difficult situation as it is drug addiction. So I invite you to read my review of the movie Candy.
La historia comienza hablándonos de dos jóvenes que se conocen por casualidad y que empiezan una relación la cual con el tiempo se vuelve muy difícil de sobrellevar para ambos. Dan es un joven que vive tranquilamente al cual le apasiona el arte, tiene toda una vida por delante pero tiene un problema en su vida y es la adicción a las drogas. Al pasar el tiempo conoce a Candy una joven de buena familia que se enamora perdidamente de él y empiezan una relación, pero rápidamente Dan no puede evitar que Candy entre en el mundo de las drogas y empiece a consumir con él desde las más suaves hasta la más fuerte de las drogas. Las cosas se ponen complicadas, ambos están sin empleo y necesitan conseguir como sea dinero para poder pagar la droga que consumen.
The story begins by telling us about two young people who meet by chance and start a relationship which eventually becomes very difficult to cope with for both. Dan is a young man who lives a quiet life and is passionate about art, he has a whole life ahead of him but he has a problem in his life and that is drug addiction. As time goes by he meets Candy, a young woman from a good family who falls madly in love with him and they start a relationship, but quickly Dan can not prevent Candy from entering the world of drugs and starts using with him from the mildest to the strongest of drugs. Things get complicated, they are both unemployed and need to get money to pay for the drugs they use.
Al no tener empleo, Candy toma la decisión de vender su cuerpo para poder conseguir algunos dólares para pagar la droga, esto hace que Dan se sienta mal por la situación en la que se encuentran pero su mente ya está tan mal que si es por conseguir la droga entonces harán lo que sea y literalmente se meten en mucho problemas para poder conseguir el dinero. Algunas veces le roban a personas, objetos como una lavadora, venden las pocas cosas que tienen entre ellas un anillo que era muy importante para Candy y que empeña para conseguir dinero. Luego Candy empieza a seguir el mundo de la prostitución para conseguir más dinero, mientras Dan solo está ahí en casa o robándole a alguien para tener dinero y aportar algo.
Not having a job, Candy makes the decision to sell her body to get some dollars to pay for the drug, this makes Dan feel bad about the situation they are in but his mind is already so bad that if it is to get the drug then they will do anything and literally get into a lot of trouble to get the money. Sometimes they steal from people, objects like a washing machine, sell the few things they have among them a ring that was very important to Candy and that she pawns to get money. Then Candy starts to follow the world of prostitution to get more money, while Dan is only there at home or stealing from someone to have money and contribute something.
Ambos ven la situación del consumo de drogas como algo que pueden controlar, que en cualquier momento pueden dejarlo y vivir una vida mejor y más tranquila sin tener que recurrir a cosas tan bajas para conseguir dinero. Mientras ambos están cada vez más adictos, dónde tienen momentos en el que casi pierden la vida llega una noticia que no esperaban, Candy está embarazada y supone que es de Dan porque según ella siempre usaba protección mientras estaba con otros hombres. Entonces ahora la situación era más difícil, Candy le da la idea a Dan de que podría abortar pero él le dice que es mejor tener al bebé a pesar de que ellos no están en condiciones para cuidar a un bebé cuando ni dinero tienen para algo simple como comida.
Both see the situation of drug use as something they can control, that at any time they can quit and live a better and quieter life without having to resort to such low things to get money. While both are more and more addicted, where they have moments where they almost lose their lives, Candy is pregnant and she assumes it is Dan's because according to her she always used protection while she was with other men. So now the situation was more difficult, Candy gives Dan the idea that she could have an abortion but he tells her that it is better to have the baby even though they are not in conditions to take care of a baby when they don't even have money for something simple like food.
Piensan que la llegada de un bebé puede ser el milagro que ellos necesitan para mejorar sus vidas por lo que deciden dejar de golpe las drogas. Y van pasando los días y empiezan los efectos secundarios después de haber sido adictos y dejarlo de golpe, tienen muchos temblores, debilidad y vomitos. Al tercer día ya no aguantan el no consumir y van a buscar a Casper un hombre que es profesor universitario y que conocía a Dan por qué él le ofrecía drogas. Empiezan a inyectarse lo que supongo sería heroína y eso los calma un poco pero Candy se pone muy mal y empieza a sangrar, lo que los alerta y van al hospital ya que Candy empieza labor de parto y pasan unas horas muy difíciles hasta que nace el bebé, el cual evidentemente es prematuro y que no tiene signos vitales.
They think that the arrival of a baby could be the miracle they need to improve their lives, so they decide to stop taking drugs suddenly. And as the days go by, the side effects begin after being addicted and quitting suddenly, they have a lot of tremors, weakness and vomiting. On the third day they can't stand not using and they go to find Casper, a man who is a university professor and who knew Dan because he offered him drugs. They start injecting what I guess would be heroin and that calms them down a little but Candy gets very bad and starts bleeding, which alerts them and they go to the hospital as Candy goes into labor and spend a few very difficult hours until the baby is born, which is obviously premature and has no vital signs.
Después de perder al bebé las cosas empiezan a cambiar, los padres de Candy sienten que Dan le hace más mal que bien a su hija y que sería mejor que ellos no estuvieran más juntos porque tienen una relación tóxica y de dependencia. Pasan muchas cosas que hacen ver qué el mundo de las drogas es un lugar solitario, vacío y sombrío dónde sientes que tienes el control de la situación pero en realidad no es así y cuando te das cuenta de que se te está saliendo de las manos ya es bastante tarde. Esta película demuestra de manera muy real lo que es vivir en el abismo de las drogas, el daño psicológico y físico que conlleva el drogarse y cómo vas perdiendo todas las cosas que eran importantes para ti por esta situación.
After losing the baby things start to change, Candy's parents feel that Dan is doing more harm than good to their daughter and that it would be better if they were no longer together because they have a toxic and dependent relationship. Many things happen that make you see that the world of drugs is a lonely, empty and gloomy place where you feel you are in control of the situation but in reality you are not and when you realize that it is getting out of hand it is already too late. This film shows in a very real way what it is like to live in the abyss of drugs, the psychological and physical damage that comes with getting high and how you lose all the things that were important to you because of this situation.
Las interpretaciones en "Candy" son realmente sobresalientes, con Heath Ledger ofreciendo un retrato sobrecogedor de un hombre atrapado en la agonía de la adicción. La interpretación de Ledger es cruda y auténtica, y capta la desesperación y la angustia de un hombre que lucha por liberarse de las cadenas de la heroína. La interpretación de Candy por Abbie Cornish es igualmente convincente, ya que muestra la vulnerabilidad y resistencia de una mujer consumida por su adicción. La química entre Ledger y Cornish es palpable, añadiendo profundidad e intensidad al tumultuoso viaje de sus personajes. Cabe destacar que la dirección por parte de Neil Armfield hizo que la película fuera muy buena destacando la intimidad de las escenas haciéndolas ver más realistas y crudas acerca del tema que son las drogas y la relación de dos personas que se aman pero que se a la vez se autodestruyen.
The performances in "Candy" are truly outstanding, with Heath Ledger delivering a harrowing portrayal of a man trapped in the throes of addiction. Ledger's performance is raw and authentic, capturing the desperation and anguish of a man struggling to break free from the chains of heroin. Abbie Cornish's portrayal of Candy is equally compelling, showing the vulnerability and resilience of a woman consumed by her addiction. The chemistry between Ledger and Cornish is palpable, adding depth and intensity to their characters' tumultuous journey. It is worth noting that Neil Armfield's direction made the film very good, highlighting the intimacy of the scenes, making them look more realistic and raw about the subject of drugs and the relationship of two people who love each other but at the same time self-destruct.
Esta película tiene una duración de dos horas y la pueden encontrar en PrimeVideo, también en plataformas de películas por internet aunque por la antigüedad puede ser algo difícil de encontrar. Si les gusta la actuación de Heath Ledger y además les gusta este tipo de películas de género drama y de realidades de la vida es una buena opción para ver y aprender acerca de las cosas que nos transmite esta película que sin duda fue muy buena y no tiene el reconocimiento que merece. This movie has a duration of two hours and you can find it on PrimeVideo, also on internet movie platforms although due to its age it can be a little difficult to find. If you like Heath Ledger's performance and also you like this kind of movies of drama genre and realities of life is a good option to see and learn about the things that this movie transmits us that certainly was very good and does not have the recognition it deserves.
