[ESP-ENG] Album Review: Light Me Up by The Pretty Reckless 💜

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Música, espero que se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Hace un tiempo que no escuchaba una de mis bandas favoritas de mi adolescencia y esta es The Pretty Reckless, algunos la conocerán por su vocalista la cantante y compositora Taylor Momsen quien le da la voz a esta increíble banda llena de letras oscuras pero con mucha realidad y sentimiento además de un arreglo increíble junto a la batería y a la guitarra eléctrica. Para mi el haber descubierto a The Pretty Reckless fue una cosa increíble y que me adentro un poco en el mundo del rock y rock alternativo, no era mi género favorito para escuchar pero la voz de Taylor Momsen es increíble y muy atrapante, canta con tanta pasión que te hace querer escuchar toda su discografia💜

Hello friends of the Music community, I hope you are well today. It's been a while since I listened to one of my favorite bands of my adolescence and this is The Pretty Reckless, some of you may know them by their vocalist, singer and songwriter Taylor Momsen who gives voice to this incredible band full of dark lyrics but with a lot of reality and feeling plus an incredible arrangement with drums and electric guitar. For me, discovering The Pretty Reckless was an incredible thing that got me into the world of rock and alternative rock, it wasn't my favorite genre to listen to but Taylor Momsen's voice is incredible and very catching, she sings with so much passion that makes you want to listen to her whole discography💜

En el año 2010 la banda liderada por la increíble vocalista Taylor Momsen, The Pretty Reckless, lanzo su álbum debut sin esperar que llegara a gustarle a tantas personas de diferentes lugares del mundo, este álbum fue el inicio con buen pie de la banda y lo que los catapulta como una de las mejores bandas de rock contemporaneo, recuerdo la primera vez que escuche este álbum y fue precisamente con una canción en especifico titulada Just Tonight, esta canción me hizo darme cuenta de que el género del rock es muy extenso y que hay muchas bandas increibles con grandes compositores y vocalistas que tal vez no son tan conocidos o famosos como otras bandas de culto, siento que una de las cosas que hizo que la banda tuviera el exito que tiene hoy en día es por la gran vocalista Taylor Momsen y su manera de cantar y de transmitir tanto con su voz poderosa digna de toda una Rockstar.

In 2010 the band led by the incredible vocalist Taylor Momsen, The Pretty Reckless, released their debut album without expecting that so many people from different parts of the world would like it, this album was the good start of the band and what catapulted them as one of the best contemporary rock bands, I remember the first time I listened to this album and it was precisely with a specific song titled Just Tonight, this song made me realize that the rock genre is very extensive and that there are many incredible bands with great composers and vocalists that maybe are not as well known or famous as other cult bands, I feel that one of the things that made the band the success they have today is because of the great vocalist Taylor Momsen and her way of singing and transmitting so much with her powerful voice worthy of a Rockstar.

Light Me Up fue el álbum que inicio todo para la banda y que les abrió muchas puertas, con sonidos crudos y letras profundas llegaron a tener buenas críticas ante los fans y los que a penas estábamos conociendo su musica. Este álbum tiene una intensidad en cada una de sus canciones que te hace sentir dentro de las historias de cada una de las canciones, hablan del amor, del desamor, de la muerte, de la vida y de sentirse un poco diferente al resto, siento que por ser tan reales sus canciones hacen que te sientas definitivamente identificado al menos con una o más de las canciones del álbum.

Light Me Up was the album that started it all for the band and opened many doors for them, with raw sounds and deep lyrics they got good reviews from fans and those of us who were just getting to know their music. This album has an intensity in each of their songs that makes you feel inside the stories of each of the songs, they talk about love, heartbreak, death, life and feeling a little different from the rest, I feel that because their songs are so real they definitely make you feel identified with at least one or more of the songs on the album.

El álbum cuenta con 11 canciones comenzando por My Medicine, canción que habla sobre alguien que está en el oscuro mundo de las drogas y que se repite constantemente que hay alguien que esta manipulando sus medicinas cuando la realidad es que esta persona esta presentando alucinaciones producto del mismo efecto de las drogas y por más que intenta creer que no es algo que hace por decision propia ya esta tan sumergido en el mundo de las adicciones que es dificil para el ver lo que es real y lo que no. Pero en la canción intentan más que hablar de la adicción, hacer ver qué estar en este mundo de las drogas es algo muy serio y que no se debe tomar a la ligera, además de que te alientan a que vivas con precaución y viendo el lado bueno de las cosas que te suceden sin tener que buscar algo que te genere una felicidad momentánea.

The album has 11 songs starting with My Medicine, a song that talks about someone who is in the dark world of drugs and is constantly repeating that there is someone who is manipulating his medicines when the reality is that this person is presenting hallucinations product of the same effect of drugs and even though he tries to believe that it is not something he does by his own decision, he is already so immersed in the world of addictions that it is difficult for him to see what is real and what is not. But in the song they try to do more than talk about addiction, they try to show that being in this world of drugs is something very serious and should not be taken lightly, besides they encourage you to live with caution and seeing the good side of things that happen to you without having to look for something that generates a momentary happiness.

Since You're Gone nos habla de un tema bastante común y es el de estar en una relación tóxica que te consume y que te hace sentir inferior, dónde no sabes que decisión tomar pero sabes que no puedes continuar con ese ciclo repetitivo de estar con una persona que dice algo con palabras pero sus acciones son totalmente diferentes y al final solo te causa mucho daño. Es una forma de demostrar que hay relaciones que por más que quieras sostenerlas en el tiempo sobre todo si son románticas, debes tomar en cuenta si vale la pena estar con alguien que solo te minimiza y te hace sentir la peor persona del mundo, la canción también dice que al final puedes lograr dejar ir a esa persona.

Since You're Gone tells us about a very common theme and that is to be in a toxic relationship that consumes you and makes you feel inferior, where you do not know what decision to make but you know you can not continue with this repetitive cycle of being with a person who says something with words but their actions are totally different and in the end only causes you much harm. It is a way to show that there are relationships that no matter how much you want to sustain them over time especially if they are romantic, you must take into account if it is worth being with someone who only minimizes you and makes you feel the worst person in the world, the song also says that in the end you can manage to let go of that person.

Make Me Wanna Die es una canción que habla desde el título sobre la cantante y su relación con una persona que la hace sentir tantas cosas que hasta desearía morir por esa persona, es una canción bastante oscura pero que refleja el como una persona se puede perder en el deseo de estar enamorado perdidamente de alguien que se vuelva hasta un punto un poco enfermizo y te haga hacer cosas que sabes en el fondo que no están bien, a pesar de que la canción repite varias veces que esa persona hace que ella desee morir al final todos esos sentimientos arden en la luz y las cosas acabarán por el bien de ambos.

Make Me Wanna Die is a song that talks from the title about the singer and her relationship with a person that makes her feel so many things that she would even wish to die for that person, it is a pretty dark song but it reflects how a person can get lost in the desire to be madly in love with someone that becomes to a point a little unhealthy and makes you do things that you know deep down are not right, although the song repeats several times that this person makes her want to die in the end all those feelings burn in the light and things will end for the good of both.

Light Me Up nos habla de ese sentimiento de querer ser la versión que los demás desean de nosotros haciéndonos sentir perdidos en los estándares y la aceptación social, es un constante debate entre lo que siente que debe hacer y lo que las demás personas opinan sobre ella, siento que todos alguna vez hemos pasado por ese momento donde debemos decidir si queremos vivir para ser lo que otros quieren que seamos o poner en primer lugar las cosas que si queremos ser o hacer, al final mostrándonos que lo mejor siempre es ser auténticos y luchar por nuestra libertad.

Light Me Up tells us about that feeling of wanting to be the version that others want us to be, making us feel lost in the standards and social acceptance, it is a constant debate between what she feels she should do and what other people think about her, I feel that we all have gone through that moment where we must decide if we want to live to be what others want us to be or put first the things we want to be or do, in the end showing us that the best thing is always to be authentic and fight for our freedom.

Just Tonight siendo una de mis canciones favoritas y de las primeras que escuche del álbum siendo muy joven puedo decir que me atrapó completamente y que me encantó, está canción nos habla de una relación poco saludable con una persona que nos hace sentir atrapados en un bucle donde deseamos estar con esa persona pero recordamos que es demasiado toxico y doloroso y que sera solo por una noche que estaran juntos y luego cada uno tomara su propio camino, si no la han escuchando se las recomiendo es sin duda una de las mejores del álbum.

Just Tonight being one of my favorite songs and one of the first I listened to from the album being very young I can say that it caught me completely and I loved it, this song tells us about an unhealthy relationship with a person that makes us feel trapped in a loop where we want to be with that person but we remember that it is too toxic and painful and that it will only be for one night that you will be together and then each one will go their own way, if you have not heard it I recommend it is definitely one of the best of the album.

Miss Nothing es una canción que me parece bastante triste pero muy realista en cuanto a lo que quiere reflejar el tema, hablándonos de una mujer que se siente una persona autosuficiente pero a la vez siente que no vale nada como persona, está en una constante batalla con sus propios pensamientos y también puede que batallando con su salud mental mientras tiene toda esta clase de pensamientos que la hacen sentirse hundida y perdida.

Miss Nothing is a song that I find quite sad but very realistic in terms of what the song wants to reflect, telling us about a woman who feels like a self-sufficient person but at the same time feels that she is worthless as a person, she is in a constant battle with her own thoughts and also maybe battling with her mental health while having all these kinds of thoughts that make her feel sunken and lost.

Goin' Down es una canción que habla sobre una mujer que se siente profundamente perdida y culpable producto de sus propias acciones lo que la está llevando a perder la cordura, recuerda el momento en el que la persona que más amaba estaba con otra y ella decidió acabar con la vida de él y ahora busca en una iglesia una ayuda espiritual y un poco de redención, pero está constantemente recordando que no debió actuar impulsivamente y que desea poder conseguir que alguien espiritual la pueda ayudar a salir del fondo donde se encuentra. Es muy triste ver qué una persona puede llegar a lastimar a otra solo para que no pueda seguir con su vida sin ella, es algo que se ve mucho hoy en día en las relaciones.

Goin' Down is a song that talks about a woman who feels deeply lost and guilty because of her own actions which is leading her to lose her sanity, she remembers the moment when the person she loved the most was with someone else and she decided to end his life and now she is looking for spiritual help and a little redemption in a church, but she is constantly remembering that she should not have acted impulsively and she wishes she could get someone spiritual to help her to get out of the bottom where she is. It is very sad to see what a person can do to hurt another person just so they can't get on with their life without them, it is something you see a lot nowadays in relationships.

Nothing Left to Lose es otra de mis canciones favoritas sobre todo por la forma en que Taylor Momsen canta y cuenta la historia de dos personas con gran diferencia de edad que tienen una relación fugaz pero que saben que no es algo correcto, que tal vez la persona adulta debió detener la situación y no haber estado con alguien tan joven como ella, me recuerda a la canción de All Too Well por la historia donde se muestra cómo dos personas teniendo una diferencia de edad significativa presentan problemas en la relacion sobre todo por el hecho de sentir que estas con alguien que tal vez te este usando y a la vez abusando de tu forma de ver la vida desde la juventud, siento que es algo por lo que muchas personas han pasado y aunque en algunas ocasiones tal vez la relacion si funcione, la mayoria de las veces con el tiempo empiezan a verse los problemas por tener tantas diferencias. La melodía de la canción hace que sea una de mis favoritas y me gusta la forma en que Taylor Momsen la canta con un sentimiento único y su voz tan hermosa.

Nothing Left to Lose is another of my favorite songs especially because of the way Taylor Momsen sings and tells the story of two people with a big age difference who have a fleeting relationship but know that it's not right, that maybe the adult person should have stopped the situation and not been with someone as young as her, it reminds me of the song All Too Well because of the story where it shows how two people having a significant age difference present problems in the relationship especially for the fact of feeling that you are with someone who may be using you and at the same time abusing your way of seeing life from your youth, I feel that it is something that many people have gone through and although sometimes maybe the relationship works, most of the time with time you start to see the problems for having so many differences. The melody of the song makes it one of my favorites and I like the way Taylor Momsen sings it with a unique feeling and her voice is so beautiful.

You para mí es una de las canciones que suena más romántica y menos rockera, se puede apreciar la hermosa voz de Taylor Momsen cantando sobre un amor que recuerda y el cual no fue correspondido, que a pesar del tiempo aún desea que puedan tener una oportunidad y que vivan su historia juntos, pero luego viene el golpe de realidad y sabe que eso no va a suceder, pero aún así se repite que tal vez puedan estar juntos aunque sea de alguna forma o en otro plano, es una canción triste pero suena bastante diferente a las demás canciones del álbum y es bastante hermosa musicalmente.

You for me is one of the songs that sounds more romantic and less rock, you can appreciate the beautiful voice of Taylor Momsen singing about a love that she remembers and which was not reciprocated, that despite the time she still wishes they could have a chance and live their story together, but then comes the reality check and she knows that this will not happen, but still she repeats that maybe they can be together even if in some way or in another plane, it is a sad song but it sounds quite different from the other songs on the album and it is quite beautiful musically.

Y finalmente tenemos el último track del álbum llamado Factory Girl, dónde nos habla sobre una joven que desea escapar de la vida que lleva y conocer el mundo, poder vivir una vida desenfrenada y experimentar todo lo que pueda para sentirse realmente viva, es una canción con la que muchos jóvenes se pueden sentir identificados porque es en esa edad en la que deseas dejar las reglas impuestas por tus padres o familia y conocer el mundo como realmente es. Esta canción termina cerrando el álbum de una manera increíble donde se puede escuchar a la banda tocar y sentirte en modo rockera jaja.

And finally we have the last track of the album called Factory Girl, where she talks about a young girl who wants to escape from the life she leads and see the world, to live an unbridled life and experience everything she can to feel really alive, it is a song that many young people can identify with because it is at that age where you want to leave the rules imposed by your parents or family and see the world as it really is. This song ends up closing the album in an amazing way where you can listen to the band play and feel in rocker mode haha.

Escuchar a The Pretty Reckless te da una sensación de poder y de querer ser parte de una banda de rock 🤭, es increíble como Taylor Momsen quien paso de ser conocida por ser actriz en su infancia a luego ser una cantante de rock y tener su propia banda, puede darnos en cada uno de sus álbumes y conciertos un show que vale la pena ver y escuchar, sin duda este álbum habla sobre las relaciones y también sobre la vida de forma real, dónde se muestran situaciones como las adicciones y el mal que pueden causarle a las personas, para mí fue un grandísimo comienzo y una buena manera de entrar en la industria musical, se que muchas personas aún no los conocen pero les invito a escuchar sus canciones sobre todo si te gustan las canciones del género del rock.

Listening to The Pretty Reckless gives you a feeling of power and wanting to be part of a rock band 🤭, it's amazing how Taylor Momsen who went from being known for being an actress in her childhood to then being a rock singer and having her own band, can give us in each of her albums and concerts a show that is worth seeing and listening to, no doubt this album talks about relationships and also about life in a real way, where they show situations like addictions and the evil they can cause to people, for me it was a great start and a good way to enter the music industry, I know that many people still do not know them but I invite you to listen to their songs especially if you like the songs of the rock genre.
