Digging Out My Old Camera

avatar
(Edited)

After seeing some great photos in some of the photography communities I was motivated to dust off my old camera and try to improve some of my photos on my blog.

I have also not been able to get such good shots with my camera phone, so thought maybe my trusty Nikon might be a good choice. Some of my favorite photos that I like to take are of nature and the luminaries.

With my camera phone, it was not even possible to get a good clear sun rising shot and it is frustrating. This is surprising to me because according to source, my phone camera has good specs.

It is a 48MP Sony IMX 582 Quad-Bayer 1/2" sensor with 0.8µm pixels camera and I presume this should be better than my old Nikon now. I was checking my Nikon and it must be nearly 10 years old! It has only 10MP which sounds much less than my newer camera phone. I've no idea why it can still take better photos though!

I originally switched over to just using my camera phone for convenience and now realise this could be a mistake with my much lower-quality photos. Although we had some visitors this weekend and they had nice Apple iPhones and the camera looked pretty awesome in those photos.

The photo of my phone came out a bit blurred though! Therefore I have a conundrum, do I continue to use my phone for photos, but with lower quality, or carry around my bigger SLR Nikon camera around?

The other option is to upgrade my phone to something better, but what phone has a good camera and could be affordable?

Thanks for reading.

A lot of megapixels doesn't always mean better camera...

If I know I am going out with a mission then I will take my camera. Funnily enough on Friday we went upto Aldi to do a shop, but we walked through the park, I purposely did not take my camera.

What happens... I see eight oystercatcher birds that I never see in the park. Phone camera just is not good zoom to get a decent picture.

So I feel you! Am curious to see the best Android camera specs on a phone that is not expensive!

It's a hard toss up between quality and convenience/cost.

I was very impressed with the photos from the iPhone, but didn't see any decent android camera phones yet. !CTP

When I look at myself I see, besides all technical quality questions, that I behave different and take better photos when I hold a real camera.

I advise choosing the most recent Samsung or iPhone if you wish to use a phone camera with a high-quality display. Both phones have screens of a high calibre.

The best option is to purchase a high-quality camera if you have additional money, as they are always superior to phone cameras. The photos have excellent quality.
I hope the advice helps you

Nikon is still one of finest camera out there and well, all I do believe is we need a proper angle to capture picture even from an average camera will Get better results.

I do it on mobile and trying to improve it more!

Also upgrade Phone is Nice cuz there are plenty of smartphones that have best camera and affordable and I know region specific so can't say what models avail in there.

Nice! Cameras are making a comeback, right? I have a 7 years Sony point-and-shoot type of camera. I love it! Makes great pictures and videos still but I'm thinking about getting a new one. My kids are pressuring me to do that too. Any advice?

I think the Nikon takes some very good pictures, but other than that I don't really know anything about cameras! The quality of your photos and video seem very good to me, are you using the Sony for that?

Yes, I've been using a Sony Cyber-Shot for about seven years now but it's coming to the point that needs to be replaced. Since cameras are making a come back, the prices are going up as well. I just want to make a wise decision.

It is worth looking around before buying. I will probably just stick with my Nikon as it is working quite good so far.

The Pocox3 camera is actually brilliant. There is a possibility that you might have tampered with some settings that affected your photo quality, maybe try returning to the factory setting.

DSLRs are always great compared to smartphones, but I reckon some smartphones could still do better. None theless, you can use both from time to time.

cheers

Thanks for the tip, I will try that and maybe I can keep using it for everyday things and use the SLR camera for any big photo trips.

I saw photos with the new iPhone and they looked next level but the phone is quite pricey I think compared to a Poco X3 for €150.

Nice camera ! We have a Cannon DSLR, and it used to take great pics - its been battered a bit over the years. I used to use it but it just seemed to take ages to get the pics of, etc. So I've just persevered with my phone, and tried to get better with it. Mine is quite limited (zoom is rubbish and it does not work in low light), but its worked ok. However, I'm changing phone tonight and this one has a much better camera - so hers hoping I can do more going forward !
