Samurai Champloo - Lost, but not forgotten [Eng / Esp]
There are few times that I have seen the same anime twice, I think that only happened with the Rurouni Kenshin Ovas (exceptional) and Saint Seiya, but there is another one that I recently saw again and that is Samurai Champloo. Why? Well, I remember when I watched it it was revolutionary from my point of view and I've been looking for some of that for a long time. I know there must be many anime with very good stories, in fact, there are and I constantly see interesting things, but this is different.
I remember that at that time I did nothing but watch samurai anime set in ancient times, I think feudal Japan is amazing and has exciting stories, the art of war, honor in battles and also betrayal, are some of the things we can find there, but there is also much more than that and those anime show it to us. I remember that by that time I watched Sengoku Basara, Samurai 7, Sword of the Stranger, Afro samurai, Ninja Scroll, among others that I don't remember right now.
Now, what stands out in Samurai Champloo is the constant mix between ancient times (Edo period) and modern times, we see this with musical references, graffiti, visual references and the attitude of some characters, all linked to the Hip Hop and Rap culture, but without interfering in the background with the arguments that are being presented at the time. I think what I mention above was what I felt was revolutionary at the time, not because they are a fan of Hip Hop or Rap, but because they knew how to add those references without damaging the good stories.
This anime tells us the story of two samurai, Mugen and Jin, who being on the verge of death for getting into trouble with dangerous politicians, are saved in extremis by Fuu, a girl who worked in a tea house that was destroyed in the riot in which Mugen and Jin were captured, she in return asks them to help her find the samurai who smells like sunflowers.
So they venture in search of that particular samurai, but the road is full of scenarios and dangers that these three characters must face in order to advance in their mission. Something particular that stands out in this anime is the comedy, the two samurai mentioned above do not get along well and do not miss the opportunity to find an excuse to try to kill each other, this is perhaps because of the different personalities they have, one is very educated and cultured while the other is messy and likes to look for trouble.
I leave below a trailer where you can see more or less what this anime is about, you can also see the animation and the musical theme:
As I already said, the music plays an interesting role here, it is noticeable that they try to make it an indispensable element to set some situations and make references to this modern era, which they manage to do perfectly without it feeling too invasive for the story, I particularly liked it. The opening, which is called "Battlecry", is a sample of the good music implemented.
The fact that the director is Shinichirō Watanabe himself, who also directed Cowboy Bebop and The Animatrix, gives us an idea of the quality of the story and animation, always prevailing the seriousness and adult tones, but without leaving aside the comic reliefs that help to refresh the plots. I want to make it clear that the references to modern cultural elements, do not tarnish or do not generate significant variations in the good stories and adventures in which these two samurai and this girl are living day by day.
I think Samurai Champloo is not one of the most striking or famous anime, I feel that at a certain point it is a lost and underrated anime, but never forgotten for those of us who watched it and enjoyed this revolutionary proposal. So if you want to see an anime that takes you away from what you are used to see, this one is totally recommended.

I remember that anime because it had a really good animation and its soundtrack was mainly hip-hop.
It is an anime that you definitely have to watch, the stories and plot are very good, it also has touches of comedy that relieve certain tense moments, it is a marvel. Thanks for your support! See you soon!
I think I have seen some chapters. But what I don't remember is the ending. The little I remember is that they were looking for a samueai who smelled like sunflowers or something like that.
Rurouni Kenshin changed my way of watching anime and made me a fan of the samurai genre, I think the stories that surround them are very interesting and make us understand why the Japanese are the way they are. That also happens with Samurai Champloo, despite how it looks at first glance it gives us many lessons.
Thanks for your visit and activity in the community, also remember to add English language in your comments so people who speak other languages can understand what we talk about 😅😉. See you!
Hi, hehe yes this kind of anime nourishes the story, ah okok I will keep it in mind, thanks!
I have heard about this anime that tells the story of two Samurai
I have never seen it but I heard that it is so interesting
You may have heard of this anime since it had some fame at the time, and yes, it is very interesting.
I haven't seen it yet, but the way you say it's an interesting anime movie, I'll definitely watch it on Sunday.
It's not a movie, it's a series, but it has few chapters so you can watch it in one day or maybe two. Greetings!
Thanks for sharing.
This anime I watched it but a long time ago and I don't remember anything about it, I was very little haha I even forgot about its existence and you just reminded me of it 👌
The comedy when it is not used in excess and in an exaggerated way leaves a good taste in a story.
When someone watches an anime twice or more, it means that it's good and that they enjoyed it haha I've done it with very few anime and I enjoyed every moment as if it was the first time I watched it.
I watched this anime for the second time because I needed something refreshing and boy did it work for me, there are times when we need to mentally reboot ourselves.
The comedy touches in this anime are quite balanced as they don't distract from what's really important, in that sense it's very well done.
I'm glad I brought this anime back to your mind, believe me it's very good.
I don't remember watching it on Cartoon Network, but it's interesting that it was broadcasted there, the anime has some adult scenes (not so explicit), but maybe they were censored.
I recommend you to start watching it from 0, I'm sure you'll like it, it's really entertaining. And yes, the girl is very funny and clueless, but with a good heart.
Thanks for stopping by and for your time. Regards!
Many may think that current anime somehow surpass the old series because of the advancement of animation technology, but in most cases it is the stories themselves and the way they are told what catches the person's attention. I didn't get to see this anime but I agree that period samurai stories are great, maybe I'll be motivated to watch it, I see it only has one season.
Yes, it has only one season which goes by very fast since each chapter is very entertaining, in fact, I was looking forward to more, but I'm afraid it came to an end.
Period anime are the best, especially the ones that include ninjas and samurais, they are spectacular stories. I hope you can watch this anime.
¡Maravilloso muchachos!.
Rurouni kenshin is and will always be the best samurai anime in history, in fact there is a remake being broadcast for those fans who were left wanting to see more. I think the great thing about these stories is that they bring us closer to Japanese culture, which is very rich and warriors were an important part of their past.
I understand that Samurai Champloo is a cult work but in my particular case I haven't seen it, maybe it's because I don't care enough about the whole samurai theme, maybe I'll take a look at it just in case what you mentioned about using Hip Hop elements for the soundtrack caught my attention, it sounds too curious.
Saludos!
