This is a temple from the Hellenistic period. The temple is where the Trojan Wars took place; It is located within the provincial border of Çanakkale. The temple is on a high hill overlooking the entire peninsula. Many of the columns of the temple are standing and have a magnificent magnificence.

The importance of Apollo Smintheus (Apollo, Lord of the Mice), who gave his name to the sanctuary, dates back to B.C. It appears in the first line of the Iliad epic, in which the famous poet Homer, who lived in the 8th century, describes the Trojan Wars.

The word Smintheus derives from the local language word sminthos, meaning "mouse". While Apollo punishes the evildoers with mice (plague, etc.), he also kills mice with arrows to prevent the damage they cause to farmers. This is due to the fact that the sanctuary of Apollo Smintheus is located near the water source and that he can prophesy by looking at the water. Considering the old written sources: It is understood that the Sanctuary of Apollo Smintheus served people who came from the Troas region to many parts of the Aegean world for prophecy in ancient times. "The vast majority of the temples, water tanks, Roman baths, sacred road and other existing ruins in the sanctuary date back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods (4th centuries B.C., 4th centuries A.D.)."

Helenistik döneme ait bir tapınak burası. Tapınak Turuva Savaşlarının yapıldığı; Çanakkale il sınırı içerisinde bulunuyor. Tapınak yüksek bir tepede bütün yarım adaya hakim bir noktada. Tapınağın bir çok sütünü ayakta ve görkemli bir ihtişama sahip.

Antik Troas Bölgesi'nin güneybatı köşesinde Assos ve Aleksandreia Troas antik kentleri arasında yer alan Apollon Smintheus Kutsal Alanı (Smintheion), Hellenistik dönemde (M.Ö. 330-30) Anadolu'nun en önemli kutsal alanlarından biridir. Kutsal alana ismini veren Apollon Smintheus'un (Farelerin Efendisi Apollon) önemi M.O. 8. yüzyılda yaşamış ünlü ozan Homeros'un Troia Savaşları'nı anlattığı İlyada destanının ilk satırtanda ortaya çıkar.

Smintheus kelimesi yerel dilde "fare" anlamına gelen sminthos kelimesinden türemiştir. Apollon, fare ile (veba vs.) kötüleri cezalandırırken, aynı zamanda çiftçilere verdikleri zararları önlemek için oklan ile fareleri öldürür. Apollon Smintheus kutsal alanının su kaynağının yakınında olması, suya bakarak kehanette bulunmasından kaynaklanmaktadır. Eski yazılı kaynaklar göz önüne alındığında: Apollon Smintheus Kutsal Alanı'nın antik çağda Troas bölgesinden Ege dünyasının birçok yerinden de kehanet için gelen insanlara hizmet ettiği anlaşılmaktadır. Kutsal alandaki tapınak, su depolan, Roma hamamları, kutsal yol ve diğer mevcut kalıntıların büyük çoğunluğu Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerine (M.O. 4. M.S. 4. yüzyıllar) alttir." denilmektedir.

Dönemin halkının; Hem kurtarıcı hemde ölümü simgeleyen Apollo Tanrısına olan saygıları ve korkularının simgesi bir tapınak. Su kenarında özellikle kehanetler için büyük ayinler yapılan bir yer. Burada Helenistik döneme ait kalıntılar arasında gezerken farklı duygular hissediyorsunuz. Savaş tanrısının varlığını, insanların neden savaş tanrısına ihtiyacı olduğunu sorguluyorsunuz. Buradaki mistik ayinleri hayal ediyorsunuz. Turuva ve dönemsel filmerin sahneleri gözünüzde canlanıyor.
