Visiting the Cinque Terre area of Italy

Arriving by train

We took the train from Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland down to the Italian coast, jumping off at Vernazza. I tried to stay away from a man coughing on the train, but of course I came down with a cold. Next day I felt terrible, so the only thing to do was to get some red wine and bread and cheese and hunker down in my b&b for the day. It seemed to work, because I got better quickly, feeling good enough to do three sketches there sitting on the balcony. The one shown here is a view up the steps to our place, which was up on the third floor around this corner.

I love all the colors and textures in Italy and tried to capture some of them in this sketch. It was done using pen and ink, with watercolors added in my room.
