Why Is Philosophy Still Being Studied?
Living in this time needs a lot of exposure else, an individual wi become redundant. As days passes and months becomes years, so is human nature and invition advancing. In our world today, new identities are being discovered taking some of the old styles away.
Like they say, no knowledge is a waste. I do not think that the policy makers are blind to this truth. When a course of study at the higher institution of learning becomes old fashioned and not practicable, what happens is that it's contents is changed to fit in to the recent reality.
Studying any management course now will determine that undergraduate must be introduced to digital skills, somethibg that was not in the syllabus some two decades ago. This also boils down to course or career as medicine, anatomy, accounting, law and so on. The syllabus changes per time and as such, no course is seen as obsolete, they can only be amended and changes are made in content to be delivered to the learners.
But What Is "Philosophy" Doing Here?
A cursory look at the this course of study, one may not see any relevance to existence. But one thing is sure, philosophers are one of the best administrators we have aroudlnd the globe. In a nutshell, the content of the course which majorly looks at the behaviours and thoughts of humans and the belief of societies when applied in the public space is expected to yield better result from the learners different from others.
Most philosophical thoughts are becoming whitewashed with advancement of research and evolvement of artificial intelligence. AI is the in thing now. Wether we like it or not, AI has come to stay and the better we imbibe the use in all strata of life, the better.
So, I think the course "Philosophy" should be made to delve into critical and logical reasoning than what it used to be. It is true that knowledge has no limit, but the knowledge gained which contributes nothing to human existence is seen as a wasted time of acquiring such knowledge.
There is a steady improvement in the content and materials to be studied in all course in the higher institution of learning, no doubt. I think society needs more than just having interest in studying one course or the other. Then comes the question, what does society needs?
One Major Skill Everyone Needs
The one major Skill that we all need to learn is the skill of "Common sense". What do I mean by common sense?
The state at which an average person thinks normal, sees normal, act normal and talks normal. This is what is lacking in the human space. It is common sense to think that when there is power supply to all nooks and cranny, noise pollution and other crimes that are carried out under darkness will be curbed.
It is common sense to use public funds for the betterment of the public instead of self-enrichment. In the sphere of public service and politics, political and public servants who ought to be stewards are misappropriating funds and it seem normal. This is the skill we all need to imbibe to able to have a just and fair society for all.
Skills To Learn In This Dispensation.
There are lots of skills that would be beneficial in this time. One of such is digital skills like content writing and data analysis. These skills are fast selling. People who knew on time that these skills will be highly sorted after had gone ahead to learn and are cashing out big time as we speak.
Social media management and content creation is also multi-million career. We have been advised on different platforms to take our shots at it. I am looking forward to going into content creation big time, you should too.
Honestly, events have overtaken the importance of philosophy. If it is removed from courses offered in colleges and universities, it won't leave any loophole.
Well said.
When Philosophy as a course still had life,we did not feel it impact. When it is finally removed, we will still not feel it.

I wondered why philosophy is still lingering there. Universities are not moving with time. Its in our hands to help ourselves with what we know will benefit us.
Sure. I do hope that the policy makers will wake up to the need to update the syllabus and clear it of all irrelevancies.
AI has come to stay as far as I know. philosophy is not a course that would go to exit as far as I know.
I honestly ask myself this same question why philosophy is still being studied and I just come to the conclusion probably it's because of the big name.🤣 Technology is here to stay and the earlier they realize this the better so as to avoid what you won't be needing.
