Factors That Cause A Child's Poor Academic Performance

A child's poor academic performance can be traced to lot of factors and these factors may be due to several combined problems that influences the child's overall academic performance. I will speak as an educational in this matter and try as much as possible not to involve in the blame game.

First, before going into measuring who is to blame and why, lets first of all getto know the rudiments of learning and teaching. A combination of professional selected materials must be available for a child to learn, the environment must be conducive and the learning must be prepared emotionally to receive the knowledge being shared by the teacher. The teacher likewise must be motivated to give his or her best.

Let's now consider some of the reason why a child may not be at best in his or her academic pursuit.

Government Policies

We often relate the problem of a child not being able to meet up in their pursuit but we fail to substantiate the place of policies made by the government as an instrument causing learners to come out with poor performance.

One unfortunate thing is that policy makers are not on the field and may not have even taught in the dour walls of a classroom. Hence, when such people make policies, there may be problems because they do not have first hand information.

The government have created too many subjects that the child of the generation do not need. For example, a Junior Secondary student is meant to offer about seventeen to eighteen subject. At such an age, I feel that it may be too cumbersome for children around that age bracket to study that amount of subjects.

Some of the subjects are not relevant to the time we live in. Children want to learn what they see in movies or via the internet. But in our schools, we teach the same traditional subjects that our grandparents studied. We ought to have moved from some of those boring subjects and topics which most times make teaching and learning very boring.

Another area we should hold the government responsible for failure is the area of discipline. There is no more discipline in our schools. The government have imbibed the western culture where the child who does not have a mind.of their own have become vulnerable.

As such, many people who could have had interest in teaching have opted out to consider other career rather than been humiliated where he or she is trying to mould or correct a child.

Parents and Society

Most parents do not have enough time to guide their wards when the reach home. In a case where a parent is not educated, what would one expect. The child is at liberty to use his or her level of intelligence to attend to assignment, projects and what have you.
On the other hand, most parents have become too busy that they do not have enough time to check what their ward is going through and how they should help the child through the storm.

In education,we do not believe that any child is dull. Hence, parents should get to know their wards and employ the best academic material that the child deserve.
Parents should stop the competition going all around now. Instead, they should help their children get the right kind of education. Not all children should do to a conventional school. A child can attend technical college when the child is inclined or a science school or management school as the case may be.

There's also the problem of choosing career for the child. Like in my secondary school days, many parents forced their wards to science class in the bid to make them study medicine. I feel the child knows his capabilities and has choice to life ambition, the parent can guide their wards and not to force them in career choice. This has made many children who ought to do well become weak as vegetables.

Some Children Should Not Be In School

I can tell you that if Ben Carson and Bill Gates had attended a conventional school, they may not turn out to be what they are today. Their parents helped them, know what component they were made of, it was easy to tutor them at home.
If we all become professionals, life will become very imbalance.

As to children who have to consider other type of education, parents and government institution can help a great deal. Where the government fail and the parents wears a garment of anxiety, allowing their emotions to overshadow reality, then the child may have such experiences as failing many times.

Genes and traits also play an important role in the mental compartment of a learner. This thing flows in the gene. It's rear to have a brilliant child from parents who are not schooled or who's mental capabilities are not proven. It is not like there are not brilliant children from illustrate parents, it is just that the percentage is low.

Good diet can help a child do well in his or her academics. The child should eat good and nourishing meals which comprises all nutrients of food. This can help on building to mental capacity of a child.

Also, environment is another factor to be considered. The locality where the child lives and where the school or classroom is located can help the child or even destroy him academically.

However, the factors mentioned above if tailored to the advantage of the child will amount to positive academic outcomes for a child.

Most parents are the problem, they tend to overwork the teachers and neglect their responsibilities as parents, some parents never check their children's performance at home, they believe the teachers must do their jobs thoroughly. Parents should have time to go through their Children's work and monitor their performance

Seriously.....most parents think that since the school fees have been settled, all responsibilities for the academic upkeep of the child is now in the hands of the school and teacher and relinquish their duties.

Yo are making a lot of sense, of the truth, failure in education can be traced to many things, government, society, parents, the child and others.

Some students don't fail because they are dull, some fail because that is not where they belong and they are being forced to measure up. How I wish that in the coming days, in places like Nigeria, we would have schools that trains people based on what they are good at and not what we have currently
