Paracress, also known as Acmella oleracea or "toothache plant," is a unique flowering herb native to South America. It’s recognized for its small, round, yellow-and-red flowers, often called "buzz buttons" or "electric daisies." When consumed, these flowers create a tingling, numbing sensation on the tongue and gums, which has made them traditionally useful in folk medicine as a remedy for toothache pain. The plant contains a compound called spilanthol, responsible for this numbing effect. Aside from its medicinal uses, paracress is sometimes incorporated in culinary contexts, particularly in salads, cocktails, and even as a garnish for unique dishes due to its peppery flavor and the sensation it creates. In addition to culinary and medicinal uses, paracress also has potential in skincare, as spilanthol is thought to have anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxing properties that can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
