Weekend family gathering for one annual event

This weekend my grandparents and also my bf family had one happening called 'krmokolj' or 'svinjokolj'. It's not as nice event, but it's a thing that most families here do before winter, mostly. It's an event when pig is killed and meat is prepared for the winter. Like I said, it's not a nice event, but most families here do it as it's better and cheaper to have your own produce then to buy meat in the store. This way you know the meat quality. The event takes almost all day, and butchers are hired to do it, and separate meat. This way you get fat, minced meat, bacon, prosciutto, steaks... Some meat goes to the freezer, and some has to be dried first (like bacon and prosciutto). I am not going to share many photos of the exact event, but just some photos I took that day from the villages.

There was some snow in the morning, but not much. It melted as the sun appeared later in the day. We got up early and had coffee right away, there were some snacks as well.

Later, for the breakfast we had pies with potatoes and cheese, as well as some additions to it. I also took some photos to show you how village house looks like. An old stove is a necessity.

I was petting the dogs and took a photo of chickens. As they have fresh eggs, friend and I used the opportunity to eat uncooked egg desert, maybe I will show the recipe in some other post. Kitty was not so eager to cuddle with me.

We did some prepearing for much, and then I went to my granparents village.

At my grandparent's place, it was pretty much like any weekend but with more people. I was more focused on helping around then to take photos. Best thing was that I got to see my younger cousins and had some nice time with them, as I don't see them very often.

Thing that I like the most from all produce we get here are 'cvarci'. It's something very specific for my country, and I am not sure if they are made elsewhere. This type on the photo below is called tobacco cvarci, as it looks like tobacco.

Next day we also had things to do, we packed minced meat, as it was taken to the butcher shop to get minced first, it was only one left for the next day.

And that's amostly it. Even tho event itself wasn't my favorite, I am glad I had a chance to spend time with a lot of family and friends this weeknd, and we are set for the winter with meat.

This weekend was very busy for me, hense why I missed one day in my #blogmas2024. This made me sad, but I am very motivated to continue, and this time I had valid reason to miss it, as I was outside of home and couldn't use computer, and also since my phone broke, I can't use old phone to post. I was using other people phones for phots, but I took it all. I will make two posts one day, to make it up.

Photos are taken using Pixel 8

Hope you all had a nice weekend ^^
Thank you for reading my post :)
Love & Peace
