ASK LEO : WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GUARD OUR HIVE ACCOUNT AND CRYPTO WALLET FROM THEFT
Hello Hive
In as much as many people are interested in cryptocurrency and adoption is becoming wider, scam and crypto theft has become one of the major drawbacks to keeping our tokens safe in wallets or exchanges.
Somehow companies and individuals get scammed of their money and such funds is often times not retrievable.
While having cold wallet is one of the best solution so far but is everyone now completely using cold wallets?, answer is no.
Sometimes it could be possible to move the larger percentage into a cold wallet and still keep some chunk on an exchange in our mobile phone application.
In order to keep that little chunk safe there is but some few steps or precautions here that can be helpful.
Install apps to detects phishing links, antivirus and hackers. Although I don't know the best recommendation but your play store can help you identify one that can be of benefit and if this is an urgent need, Leofinance discord can be of great help and provide names of some with/without subscription to protect your funds.
A simple true caller app can be of help.
This saved my me just yesterday when I received repeated calls from unknown number trying to hack into my phone and binance wallet.
Using their tools they had engaged me in a conversation wanting to detect the voice KYC I had used for my apps.
Its often easy to detect such calls and immediately true caller app detected the identity of this fake caller as opposed to the name he introduced himself.
Just ending the call or blocking the line might not be enough, there is an extra space for me to file a gmail report of the caller which u did and kindly ask true caller to block the lines from calling anyone completely..
Even with the national ID given to every Nigerian that was also linked to their sim cards these hackers still buy multiple sin lines to steal from people and I often wonder how these individuals cannot be traced using the National ID to track all the Sims.
Keeping your hive wallet safe.
Your hive funds and wallets are safe when your passwords and private keys aren't compromised.
It is often advisable to keeo offline copies of your passwords rather than uploading on gmail or google passwords which can be hacked.

You need to have a copy of your crypto keys in a remote location. Lets say there is a fire ... it will burn both a computer and local back ups.
I keep a copy of my HIVE keys in an encrypted file on a remote server. Some people print out their keys and store them in a safe-deposit box.
It is also smart to periodically change the keys.
