Everyone has a role to play....Advocacy on Climate change Goes on

For some days now, I've been seriously engaged in an advocacy campaign as I mentioned in my last post,we trying our possible best to school or re school the people as what climate change is all about and how we can collectively make our environments and the world a harmonious place to live in. I greet y'all colleague change makers and I hope everyone here is doing well by the Grace of God. My appreciations and applause goes to ACTIONAID for funding this project and ACTIVISTA for collaborating to make this project a successful one. This week, We visited "Kpene" a suburb of Sagnarigu in the Sagnarigu district of Tamale Northern Ghana. This community have testified the works of ACTIONAID in the area . We visited the Chief palace for community entry,the chief and the elders commended our support and was very happy to see us again. We had conversations with the chief and the opinion leaders who were around as to what we intend doing and we asked for the ahead from the authority to give us to ahead to engaged with the people... We were given the go ahead to start engagements.

After acknowledging the chief and the opinion leaders, we started door to door sensitization, We divided ourselves into groups so we will be able to cover mass of the community just to make sure the campaign is spread all around the community.

We engaged the people as to what climate change is all about and it impacts on ecosystems and the environment at large. Our conversations was based on Bush fires, Deforestation, Sanitation as this are serious thematic areas is needed to be payed attention to in these areas.

Experience:
The people of Kpene were enthusiastic and appreciative of our initiative, acknowledging the importance of addressing climate change but However, he mentioned that bush fires in their town was often carried out by outsiders not by the local community members. We emphasized the need for community members to always report issues of bush burning to the authority as work collaboratively to solve this issue.

Their experience of negative impacts of using inorganic fertilizers for farming that has detrimental effects to the land.
They highlighted the effectiveness of planting trees and mentioned the previous initiatives of ACTIONAID that has resulted to present of some trees in the community.
They mentioned that sometimes bush burning was to rid of snakes and dangerous animals and suggested alternatives of slashing the grass and practicing zero tillage to make sure we regain the organic matter content in the soil.
As part of our engagements ,we organized a community durbar that included the aged, young, male and female and we also deliberated with them thesame conversations that was carried out in our door to door sensitization.

Some challenges were mentioned out by the people.
1.Lack of Seeedlings to practice afforestation.
2.Insufficient water for watering plants.
3.Inability to adopt change due to cultural beliefs
4.Land Tenure issues.
5.Insufficient information and education on this issues.
This were some of the issues mentioned out by the people and they asked our efforts to continuously help in mitigating this issues.

All in all, Our conversations and advocacy informed us that the people living in the community are aware of climate change but challenges are making some of them not practicing what is right and I strongly believe if this challenges are addressed, it will go a long way curbing issues and helping us achieve what we intend achieving. We had good time with the people and the community anticipates our subsequent visits.

Our lives are not well lived until it impacts on....Lets collaboratively make impacts.
