Adah glared at her brother with venom.

“What am I going to do with you!” She roared. Her small-bodied brother shrank.

“I'm sorry," he said, wrapping his arms around himself on his seat and pouting his lips as if about to cry.

Adah's eyes which had been raging with fury suddenly softened. She didn't love to see her baby brother in such a state no matter how angry she was. Very soon, the little boy started whimpering. “I didn't mean to make it coincide”, he apologized amidst tears.

Of course he didn't know choosing a day for his birthday outing would coincide with Adah's presentation day at school. And knowing her parents very well, they would choose to take their last child out rather than go for Adah's presentation. It stung so painfully in her chest, but she bit her lower lip down and swallowed the tears welling up in her throat.

“It's okay John,” she said finally. “It's not your fault. I'll just have to go do my presentation alone.” And with that she sauntered sadly into her room.

But the next day, to her greatest surprise, her parents pulled up behind the class with her little brother in hand while she was presenting. It was her best presentation ever.
