Mallard Ducks

Mallard Ducks are a common sight along the Bow and Elbow rivers in Calgary. They reside here year-round, and many people will go to the river just to see them. It can be a relaxing experience to just observe and not think about much else as they float along, waddle on the shores and play around with each other. The males and females are pretty distinct in how they look. Males have green heads and grey feathers. The females are always spotted and typically will next where they are born. They are highly adaptable in urban environments, so long as there is open water and food around.
