Using a macro lens that can focus close to a subject can be both a blessing and a challenge. You can capture details, but you also need to be able to show patience when getting up close, and sometimes it can be extra hard to focus, so instead of using auto or even manual focus, I find it easier to move the camera itself closer while keeping the focus fixed at a certain distance. I find that I can't always be looking through the viewfinder to compose my shots, so this helps in being able to eye out a subject and get the shot, as if you take to long, sometimes the shot flies away.
