Here we go for the 22ND edition of the NIFFF (Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival).

Since I have discovered this festival, I've normally never missed a year working there as a volunteer.

Unfortunately, life have surprises that we just can manage and not changing anything. That's why, theses last years were very difficult I think for all of us but especially for me.

WHAT'S THE NIFFF

For me, the NIFFF is first and foremost an human and films adventures. An adventure into the world of fantasy, full of twists, surprises and, above all, wonderful encounters. What's more, it's an international festival on Neuchâtel soil in Switzerland that tells the story, fills with wonder and introduces us to new films in previews, as well as great cinema classics. For 8 days, the festivities are family-friendly and positive. Moreover, most of films are introduced by one speaker and often at the end of the screening an honorary Q&A.

The first time I volunteered at the festival, I was lucky enough to meet a few enigmatic people who became friends. I worked in different areas of the festival, from the ticket office to the bar, etc... At one of the closing ceremony, a young lady was missing to present a prize. Thanks to one of my friends, I had the honor of replacing her. Attending a closing ceremony as much as during the festival is for me an insight into the industry and the world of cinema.

During the 2014 year, I had the opportunity to work as Staff for the George R.R. Martin masterclass.

Here am I with the Big Martin and his niece who at this time was her personal assistant. I have laugh a lot this day. What was crazy is that during this time, the book he wrote and the Game of Thrones series, which was a worldwide hit at the Hollywood cinema.
Despite this, he took time out from his schedule to spend a few days at the NIFFF in Switzerland. Incredible!

MAMI WATA by C.J. "Fiery" OBASI

Is the wonderful name of the movie I had luck to see it on Tuesday the 4th July with a friend of mine.

In Africa, most of us as African knows "Mami Wata". Between tales, myths, witchcraft, curses or happiness... Mami Wata is an African legend.

I was very happy to see that film as my first on this festival. It allowed me to travel, to rediscover some of my roots, thoughts and beliefs. It retrace the power of the african woman and ancient wisdom. To rediscover a new balance with the world of modernity we are leaving. For the Producer it's a hope he want to show us and all the film is in black and white in "Pidgin" speaking with subtitles in German and French.

I was really sad this day but the movie gave me strenght. Moreover, I made my little fan to congratulates him, talking a bit and took a picture with him 🤗

Thanks to the director C.J Obasi to bring the African culture out of this world.

It is important to take into account the first wisdom; the wisdom of the elders. From the intermediary (the medium) who practices for the health and safety of the village, and to adapt it to the mundane world in which we live. Mixing the two is a good balance. - C.J. OBASI
