Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter 20th September 2023

I'm coming in on a different week to usual, because last week I ended up overlapping with the garden journal. I am really undermining the title of this newsletter of late...we might as well call it the Random Newsletter...

As I browse through the offerings in the homesteading and gardening tags, I'm getting nostalgic (or maybe envious as usual) over what people are growing and harvesting. I could happily spend some time on @jude9's farm if he hadn't put me off by mentioning the risk of snakes while weeding. I guess I'll just stick with taking the photo tour from the safety of Hive.

Then @bengy's flowers caught my eye and once again made me wonder if I should just add a few to my own garden, even if they aren't edible. I'd probably just end up accidentally killing them, though, which would be a waste. But how amazing does this tulip look, standing proud and stunning while alone in its setting!

While our days begin to warm up as spring begins, the northern hemisphere is heading into autumn and just look at what stunning crops @amberyooper has ripening! There is so much colour happening in this garden.

I can't pin down exactly why @semarekha's post appealed to me. I think the main thing that caught my attention was the idea of gardening to keep active, which is two good things at once! For some strange reason I was also fascinated by the soil texture and colour. Living in the UK and Australia, I've never encountered soil quite like it. I was never this fascinated by soil before I started gardening in earnest. 😅 Don't worry, it's not just soil here, there are some lovely looking chillies too.

A lot of people here have gardens that are looking very good and their crops are also looking healthy
That's very nice

Every time I enjoy the great variety of plants that they show us here, we can learn many lessons from the experiences of each gardener.

This is so true. So much of what I've learnt has come from other gardeners talking abut their experiences.

Thanks for the shout out! That tulip has recently been joined by a few more! They are looking less lonely these days!

Haha, good to hear. I liked how you had the bags in the background in that shot as well. It gave the feel of nature fighting against all odds

Ha, I'm a terrible photographer! I didn't even notice the bags, I was so fixated on the tulip.
