Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter 18th May 2024

It's been a while since I wrote the newsletter. There are multiple reasons, a good one being that all the best posts are often already well rewarded and seen, so it's not been necessary for me to highlight them. My biggest reason for doing this newsletter has always been to highlight and give beneficiaries as much as possible to the under rewarded authors. This is the joy of this community that it is filled with passionate gardeners who love to support one another.

Unfortunately this seems to have captured the attention of some who have been creating multiple accounts in order to try and farm what they seem to think is an automatic voting system we have here. There is no automatic voting, only those who have big hearts and try to support others out of good faith. Usually our brave leader @riverflows does the work of clearing these types of low quality posts out, but with her away it's fallen to me and as she was leaving we got a whole spate of these accounts starting up that other community moderators are also trying to deal with. So I've spent my time in the community trying to keep the feed as joyful as we have become accustomed to.

If you are new to the community, please consider the quality and value of what you are posting and I guarantee that you will be welcomed with open arms.

As a wonderful example of what some of our amazing community brings to Hive, I may as well start the highlights off with some wonderful anecdotes from @thebigsweed on animal antics at his homestead. This isn't actually in the Hive Garden community but is still a great example and is well rewarded, as you'd expect.

I loved this superb account from @aitommylr on starting their experiment of growing hydroponically. It's very small scale and not in a style that we've come to see more often of late. I can't wait to see updates on how the plants go.

I want to highlight this lovely little post from @damelysh on her mother-in-law's garden. I'm sorry it seems to have gotten missed. It looks like her mother-in-law loves her flowers.

I'm going to wrap up with a post from @fotostef which had my jaw dropping in amazement. It may not be gardening in the strictest sense, but it's plants nevertheless used in the making of these masterpieces. Can you guess what it is yet?

Beneficiaries go to @damelysh and @aitommylr

Thank you for your accurate assessment of the "small-scale farming" I am engaged in! I am sincerely happy and have read your writings over and over again. Currently, I am hoping to continue my balcony garden as minimally as I can afford, and I am thrilled that you have read that as well. I really appreciate it. I don't know if my balcony gardening know-how will be useful to others. But if I post the steps, some of the articles might give a hint to someone who likes gardening. That's how I write my articles. In fact, I have come across a number of articles in this community that share some great know-how. The growth of these modest plants cheers me up.

I think there is huge value in what you share with your balcony garden. Not everyone has a garden space to work with, but you can still do so much with a balcony garden. I've never been very good at that type of gardening, so I'm always interested to read about people's experiences with them.

Farming should be something that everyone should do and maybe have a garden in their houses
The community members are putting in their best
I love that!

Thank you. I think there is a good community for everyone on Hive to share their interests. Holos & Lotus is a wonderful thriving one too and is good to see your work there.

That's right, I post frequently in that community. In fact, I posted there an hour or so ago.
Thank you very much for your kindness and for the recommendation. Have a nice day. Cheers and best regards.

Thank you very much for your kind words and your support! I am very glad you liked them so much :) I was thinking of posting it in the hive garden community but I figured that it was mostly photography and I decided otherwise.

Both @riverflows and yourself are doing an amazing job for this community and it is too bad that you have to deal with such petty people that are trying to take advantage of other people's kindness.

The photography community certainly made more sense. The newsletter is a good way to diversify with similar posts in other communities which display other sides to our gardens, so I like to include them.

I hope @traisto will post about the dye methods as well. I'd love to see more detail on it. Please tag me if you do 😁😉

I don't know when she'll have the time for posting again but I am sure she will tag you when she does!
She wrote those posts in the beginning of this wonderful journey,

https://peakd.com/hive-123046/@traisto/natural-dyes-unlimited-options

but the truth is that her knowledge has been upgraded massively ever since :)

I recall these now! There does indeed seem to be a big difference in the quality of the most recently dyed fabrics.
