Wanna Run Away

Corruption has spread its roots to every sphere of the society. Starting from the rickshaw puller to the high officials, everyone is deep-dived into such unethical stuff to earn money. No matter how or what, they need more and more money. No matter where you go, to the bazaar? Hospitals? Govt offices? You name it, step out of your home and you are unconscious then you are sure to be looted, even if you are conscious then you will be in a helpless situation over a few things.

For the last two weeks, I have been visiting the hospitals for a few of my family members. Yesterday, it was my mother, she fell sick suddenly and I had to rush to the doctor at that moment. After diagnosis, we were prescribed a ton of medicines and went to a nearby medicine shop. Actually, I was accompanied by the doctor's assistant with an assurance that they knew the doctor and by the reference of the doctor we would get some discounts. Okay, I gave him the prescriptions and asked him to tell me how much the total medicines would cost. After discounts, it was almost 55 USD. From the perspective of our country, it wasn’t a small amount. Well, at that moment I didn’t have much money left after paying for the other bills so I got medicines for one day, worth 10 USD with a view to purchasing the rest of the medicines in the evening.

Okay, we came home, started taking the prescribed medicines and in the evening I went to another pharmacy. A big one with a view to get all the good stuff in one place and most of the time I do purchase from them. So when I got the rest of the medicines, the bill was 20 USD. Oh yes, mathematically I was short of almost 45 USD worth of medicines but here, the bill was a total of 20 USD. Can you imagine how much profit the other pharmacist wanted to make? It's not like the current pharmacist hasn’t made any profit, he did, but within a limit. Actually, the first one wasn’t about giving discounts based on reference, instead, it was about the commission they would split based on the reference cutting our wallets.

It was me, who did act upon hearing such a big bill, I know pharmacies and that's why I could walk away with a little damage. But what about the other people who know knowing much about these, thousands of people come from the villages every day for treatment, to them, these are very complex things, they get help and crosscheck nothing. With the name of help, they get scammed over and over again.

Just a few days ago, the most prestigious exam in the country, which selects the highest officials, revealed that the question paper of the exam gets leaked every year with a cost of 15/20/25k USD. For this single exam, hundreds of thousands of graduates sit patiently to compete for a tiny amount of seats. They have no difference for day and night, they devoted themselves insanely to the preparation for years. The success ratio is very very low. When the investigation report is published then this whole generation is broken, this was the only hope for generations that were supposed to be not corrupted, and now that illusion is gone as well.

Now the biggest dream for this generation is to leave the country. Oh yes, you heard it right. What about me? Frustrated me, with no hope this country would leave for better opportunities for sure. It's hard for me but trust me, if I get even a single chance, I won't go for any double thoughts. A few of my friends saved their asses, they flew to Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, America, Italy, and even in the middle east as well. Most of them went with student visas and the others with professional visas. Most of them are already set with their life on how they would earn and survive. The generation like me here is rotting with an indefinite future.

So yeah, people are eating the country from their respective places as much as they can. Dive into corruption, you are good to survive otherwise it's hell for you.
