Staying Safe

I don't purchase things frequently, not until I am in need of that, you may call me a lazy ass but there is another reason too. This week's #KISS idea is very relatable to me and I am kinda enjoying that habit of mine as that's a sensible and praiseworthy practice in my opinion.

Let's begin with the cheaper option to minimize the cost, it depends on the gap between prices of the same product and their service. Lemme give you an example where I had gone with a cheap option and minimized the cost. Almost two years back, I had to purchase a mobile phone stand to keep my phone on my table. I was presented with two options, one with plastic and the other made of steel or something heavy material that looks premium and the plastic one looks average. I liked the second one initially when asked for prices the plastic one was for $0.20 and the other one was being sold for $3, almost 15x so I thought of the benefits for the pricier ones, only the looks, otherwise both of they would serve me the same. After almost two years, the 20-cent plastic one is still serving like the day one, trust me it's still the same.

But, keeping aside the cases like above I would mostly prefer to pay a little bit higher and stay safe for a longer time. Look at the above picture. A wallet, a back cover for my phone, a belt, and you may spot a few other stuff too. These could be an ideal example to demonstrate my thoughts regarding this part of the topic.

The back cover you are seeing is from Nillkin, a solid one, it is priced almost 2x from the average ones available on the market, those look quite fancy and full of designs too. But I am stuck in this simple, black, premium, and solid stuff after changing my 2nd cover two and a half years back. Since my first use of Nillkin, I haven't tried anything else, if it isn't available in stock I would pre-order them to arrange one from wherever possible, I am fine paying a little bit extra but I am happy with the top-notch quality stuff I am getting.

Same with the wallet and belt, I would go with good quality leather instead of the cheap artificial leather ones that get destroyed within a few months. I know places from where they are distributed initially, these are multiple times pricier than the ones that look kinda similar but serve far less than them. My previous wallet served me for more than five years, I could have used that even more but thought of having a change as the previous one started showing its age. These two would serve me a long way ahead that I am sure as these cost me a good amount of money and I believe the quality of them is solid.

So yeah, that's how my thoughts are regarding going to something cheaper to minimize the cost and spending a little more to avoid replacement that would last long, kinda mixed thoughts but I do prefer the second one in most cases, why to give an invitation to extra hassle when I can stay in peace with a little extra which is worth spending?

Perhaps, a lot has to do with what we expect from the product. If we are buying it to "fill a gap" and solve that quickly, we may not be interested in shelling out a lot of money. But if it's something we need, will use frequently and will see on a daily basis, we may be looking for the best. Regards @minhajulmredol
