Alone in a pine forest | El Vallecito, Mérida (ENG/ESP)
ENGLISH
A few days after ending up on the local news as a person who had to be rescued on a moor mountain when I just wanted to go camping, my boyfriend and I ventured into the pine forest of the Vallecito.
We set off early in the morning. On the way to the bus stop to go to the Vallecito pine forest, my boyfriend as usual was walking down the street with his camera in hand taking pictures. By the way, all the images in this post were taken by him, you can check out his beautiful work at @laimagenhabla.
We got on a bus on our way to Tabay and asked the driver to drop us off halfway to walk along the road that would take us to our destination. On the road, we saw some cyclists doing their morning routes, and Mérida is a fantastic place for this, with roads full of nature and slopes of varying intensities.
El Vallecito is a small rural community in the state of Merida, Venezuela. It is located very close to the city, only 15 to 20 minutes away by bus. Few people live there and most of them are dedicated to cattle raising or similar activities. I got to know this beautiful place a few years ago with some friends, one day we decided to venture there because we had heard that the pine forest that surrounds the Vallecito community is even more beautiful than the popular Bosquepino in the city of Merida.
My boyfriend was excited to see a new place, and upon arriving at the Vallecito, he took pictures of every cow and landscape he saw. We walked through the houses and after passing under a wire fence (which would seem illegal, but the locals were the ones who told us to do it), we walked through a funny field full of holes where you could easily get muddy or sprain your ankle.
We went even deeper into the mountain and I quickly realized that this route had been untraveled for some time, as the trail was littered with spider webs. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a fearful person, I love a wilderness adventure, but I have to say that insects and I don't get along at all.
I was thankful I wore appropriate clothing at that time because it saved me from being bitten by multiple spiders on our way to the pine forest.
A few cobwebs later, we finally made it to the forest and I was relieved because I honestly didn't remember the trail very well and was afraid of being in the local media again as "lost" or something. Once had been enough.
We spent a very nice afternoon, in the deep silence of the forest. We were the only two people in the whole forest. Us, the wonderful smell of pine resin, the sound of rustling branches on the tops of the many pine trees bumping against each other because of the wind, and nothing else.
We sat down for lunch among some fallen logs, stretched a bit, tried to do some sort of "couple yoga" that didn't go so well, and wandered through the small forest until there was no more path.
By the afternoon, we returned safe and sound to the city, full of the smell of resin and with our hearts a little fuller.

Pine forests always seemed like the best places where you can reconnect with nature without being need to hike a mountain, make your way to a lake or a waterfall, or any other parts of nature that usually require efforts in order to be reached. Lovely pictures by the way!
