Turning Forty Seven

I'm not big on commemorating birthdays, but for the last few years, I go jumping in nature, simply because being in nature is my happy place, and I celebrate ageing. Tonight though was the latest walk in the woods that I've ever taken, and I almost didn't get to capture any photos, because besides getting dark, my eyesight is nothing like it used to be and I forgot to take my glasses and could not see anything on my camera. Still, I decided to jump to celebrate life, and that is the proof above.

It's been a slow and quiet day, as the last few days have been, and I've been meditating and thinking just what turning 47 years means to me.

A few hours before going in the woods, I'd gone for a hilly walk through the neighbourhood with hubby and our mate to a local pub. Hubby insisted and made the effort to treat me to a lovely lunch, which was highly appreciated.

1.jpg

It was a pleasant walk downhill, and quite a treacherous uphill walk back, which was a struggle after a heavy meal.

2.jpg

My appetite was kicking, so I opted for a stack of ribs, which was as tender and juicy as they look. I unashamedly left nothing but the bones and cutlery on this plate.

It was already 8:30 PM when I arrived in the woods, on a dim sunset night. The light was quickly disappearing, so I decided to just sit quietly on a nearby bench and I tried to operate my camera the best I could via a mobile app.

4.jpg

Reflecting on the last twenty years, it seems like it was just yesterday that I'd turned 27. I grew up in a culture where women's age was often compared to the monthly calendar, and women were constantly teased that soon they would drop off the calendar (a sell-by date of 31). There continues to be so much pressure on women to marry and have kids by a certain age as if that's a woman's sole purpose in society... and then what...?

I tend to place little emphasis on my chronological age because it is not an honest reflection of how I feel on the inside. When I take great care of myself and include a full exercise regime and a good diet, I can feel as young as 25 years of age. However, if I go for long periods being less active, I sometimes feel as old as I imagine a 90-year-old might feel. Whereas emotionally and mentally I think I lie somewhere between 32 and 38 because I feel young at heart and my attitude and mindset help to keep me young.

5.jpg

I'm not as active as I used to be, but I'm making changes to that because I enjoy fitness activities, and also because it's vital now that I'm 3 years shy of 50.

I'll digress a little: I don't mean to flatter myself, but a few days ago, I stumbled upon some old topless photos I took in 2008. I then reenacted those photos in 2020, and I did a side-by-side comparison and the only pronounced difference was my hair colour, which had blond highlights in 2020.

Seeing those photos motivated me to get more physical. They also made me think that I should start examining my body more frequently with the purpose to observe things like bone density and the suppleness of joints and mobility overall.

My friend Kevin (diveratt) bought me this bottle of red wine for my birthday, which I think is something good for women over 47 to have in moderation. It's an awesome Australian Shiraz, which has a fruity taste with chocolate undertones.

image.png

So I'm enjoying this as I type and somehow it's not having a terrible effect on my mind or anything.

As I'm ageing comfortably, I'll proactively educate myself on what women my age might experience, as I think having a full understanding and knowing what to expect, is key in all phases of life, and in our abilities to accept and overcome any challenges that we might face.

How do you feel about getting older? Is it something that you dread, or are you open-minded and optimistic about the process?

Thanks for stopping by and for being part of my journey around the sun!

Happy 47th birthday, dear Milly! Have a blast! I see you are enjoying life to the fullest. As many say that age is just a number but you are looking younger than your age.

As for me, I am increasing age every year, but you know, my mind speaks that I feel I am still the same person as early as 20s but it cannot be denied that my age is increasing. Heheh. Funny how I think that way but what matters most is being healthy while our age is increasing. And I do believe you are since you’re actively involved in a healthier lifestyle.

By the way, I love how you celebrated your birthday with your husband. I wish you all the best in the world. Sending much love from the Philippines and I wish you all the best in the world. More wonderful years to celebrate.

Hello @pinkchic
Thanks for all those tokens.
Yes, I think one's mindset and lifestyle determine how you one feels and act towards life and where one places priorities. A holistic lifestyle is my priority:)

Happy birthday. Jumping in the woods us an interesting and unique tradition. That's the first that I heard that one. I agree that prolonged inactivity and bad diet makes me feel older than I actually am as well. When muscles are weak from inactivity things tend to hurt more during simple tasks and also lead to injuries. Best to stay take care of oneself. Of course there is always room to treat yourself with a good bottle of wine 😁 enjoy!

Happy Birthday glad that wine is fitting. Oh the ribs look good. I had BBQ today as well. Some pulled pork, potato salad and tangy coleslaw. Almost finished it all.

I don't feel to scared yet about aging and I'm closer to the 50 than you. This year will end I will be decade older. I'm like you if I'm active I feel younger and if I'm not I feel much older. I place myself in the 35-39 range. I feel young at heart but mind wise I know I'm weathered, hehe. I get on and off the healthy life style kick all the time. I know I have to stay aboard now.

Take care and enjoy a nice sleep in hopefully :)

I think women like older men so you have nothing to worry about. It's all in the mind, and it's never too early (or too late) to start taking care of ourselves. I struggle to do all the fitness activities that I enjoy when I'm here in the UK, but the little that I do is better than none at all. Also, I still see progress from the little that I do, which keeps me optimistic.
Yes, I slept in far later than I normally do, but I went to sleep after 4:00 AM, so sleeping was imminent.
I hope that you've had a lovely weekend and perhaps another BBQ. I think I'll have to wait another week for some sunshine. It's grey and raining right now:)))

You've said it all beautifully not mincing words as for me this is an ideal way to spend your special day - a day celebrating you. Celebrate your growth, your age and your youthfulness. Most times you are as old as you let yourself become at heart and physically.

Thanks for sharing this💕

Happiest birthday to you Milly! I can't believe you are 47! Honestly, you quite look young and your body is looking physically fit. I guess you have a healthy lifestyle.

I honestly fear getting older and I don't know why.

Yes, I try to be as active as much as possible.

I honestly fear getting older and I don't know why.

I think that will change. When I was a teenager I was convinced that I would not have lived to see 24, and I was quite ruthless in my actions because I thought I needed to fit in everything before an early death. Luckily that mindset and negative way of thinking changed and I started to observe that women aged 30 were still lovely. I am wiser now, and I'm so eager to get 50.😁

Oh, maybe that explains why I'm scared getting old because I'm still 21. The reason why I fear about the life in getting old is because I am feeling so much peer pressure nowadays. At my age now, it is the stage of entering relationship, building career, transitioning to adulthood and I feel so pressure like I can't explain my feeling. I hope I will be able to get away from this kind of feeling and fear.

Happy birthday Milly! I am really inspired by how you keep your lifestyle healthy especially your mindset towards being healthy and young. As said, where the mind goes, the body follows. And it's so evident in how you look and your energy. Indeed you look younger than your age.

As for me,when it comes to ageing what I am scared of is getting sick. I am aware that living a healthier lifestyle is somethibg I have to work on. I really need to set my mind to be able to do it.

Have a blast. I wish you you happiness. Keep inspiring others.

As for me, when it comes to ageing what I am scared of is getting sick.

That's the same for me too. Sickness could come at anytime, but I think that worst case scenario, the better care that we take now, the slower the determination process would be if we have unfortunate health.

The good thing is that you seem to have an independent mind, so I'm sure that you will get around to actively taking care of yourself to a stage where you feel more fulfilled with your actions.

Have a lovely weekend:)))

Hey, hey! Happy birthday! 47 is a good age and you look awesome as always!

I generally started not overthinking about my age recently and there are moments that I think a bit before I end with the right number. 😁 This really reduces the chance of a potential rising of stress of getting older. I’m not that old, but the years are counting and I’m reaching the mid 30s zone.

Anyway… wish you a great weekend! Enjoy!

There are moments when I think a bit before I end with the right number.

Haha! I have to do that all the time too. I honestly thought I was turning 48 because my Math is not quick, and these numbers (my chronological age) don't have much relevance to me apart from being a fact about me 😆

You seem fairly active, and you're at an age where good changes in the body can happen easier than for someone my age... So with a good attitude like yours, I think you'll be absolutely fine:)))

47 looks pretty well on you and happy birthday to you as well.

Simple celebrations on birthdays are the best and going out to jump is like telling your mind that it's younger than that age. Paying attention to one's body is quite important, the body and mind deserve all the care they can get.

Ageing is a natural process that we can't hinder and the only thing I do to make every new age special is feel younger in the mind.

Happy Birthday to you...

Happy birthday @millycf1976 😍

I don't celebrate my birthdays either, but hey, getting out to nature and jumping, celebrating life... that is great and maybe I could try it too :)

About the age and getting older. It is the most natural thing that happens to everyone but we feel it differently. The number is not everything. It is how we feel inside and what we can do with our ageing bodies and minds. The mindset... so important!! And try to avoid some closed standards that society dictates. Like if you reach a certain age it is not well seen if you do this or that... if you travel, dress in a particular way, try some new experiences, get a tattoo, hike, walk, jump, scream from being hyped, live an active life or anything else that "doesn't match your age". Nonsense.
Though the wrinkles around my eyes sometimes bother me, and the silver threads in my hair, and I feel more lazy to start some sports activity. I know. Then I don't look in the mirror hahaha, and I still feel younger than I am 😂

Absolutely! If you should follow what others dictate, the years would go by without any discoveries of who we are individually.

I agree that wrinkles and silver threads can be annoying to look at,😂 but it's part of the process.
I like the way you think:)))

Happy Birthday Milly! Oh my gosh, this post made me GRIN. Your lunch looks delicious, and I can’t imagine anything more perfect for a day of celebration than being outside all day/ good food/ a nice red wine! I love the photos you took too, ur totally glowing!

I’m 31 and I feel like if anything my “shelf life” just started, to answer your question. I thought I knew everything before 30, I didn’t know much. I think knowledge and self confidence are the sexiest/ coolest traits in a woman (to those who know what to appreciate) and it’s hard to fully have those early on… so yea, 100% optimistic on aging here!

Cheers to you and huge hugs 💚

Being 31 is a great age, and you might find yourself questioning everything and feeling like you "knew nothing" before. If you do, remember that it's an amazing thing. It only means that you are gaining wisdom, and don't be afraid or deterred my any mistakes. Life is a continuous learning process.

Thank you for your lovely wishes 💚

Oh wow, your post kinda inspired me to become physically active. Been reflecting but not acting upon it lately, and hearing from your perspective, it kinda sparked something in me to start doing something “physical” asap. It’s so nice to be able to compare your self from 20 yrs ago and now, and there’s only a slight difference. That means you’re aging beautifully! I hope to be able to do that as well. Age is just a number indeed, what we feel inside matters. You don’t look like 47, imo. I thought we’re almost the same age of 30 something 😅 happy birthday to you!!

Happy birthday Camille!!

Although they say age is just a number, I can still feel changes in my body mainly occasional aches and pains which I didn't get when I was younger. Eye sight is another thing, I used to think it's hideous how people take their glasses off when reading and now I do it all the time!!

That said, I don't think I've
aged much mentally, not having too much kids responsibilities definitely helps.

One thing, I will stop at revealing my age!!!! 🧑‍🦯🧑‍🦼

Make sure you have enough collagen as it starts to deplete in our bodies once we turn 30.

That's very true, and you just reminded me that I should replenish my collagen tablets, as well as check my calcium levels, as I've noticed differences in the bone and muscle mass in both legs. There's also a creaky noise in the knee of the leg that feels hollow.

Thanks for stopping by xxxx

Happy birthday! It’s funny when we think about it, how damn quickly time goes by. A little annoying and sometimes sad but the last 10 years have really flown by, and I can’t imagine what the next 10 years will bring either!

Cleaning up our diets is a pretty big and important step to get some of that youthful vigor back to our joints, the places that take the most damage from the aging process. I’ve noticed that I’m feeling a bit more spry when I cut out the delicious things like peanut butter and sugar but then I get a little moody lol.

My neighbor had a great way to commemorate his birthdays. He said he’s not 75 but he’s celebrating the 48th anniversary of his 27th birthday and I thought that was incredible and the right spice to life lol

Our joints, the places that take the most damage from the ageing process

I've realised that. I observe the elderly closely, and I think of what they think they might have done differently if they knew they would live to the age that they are. It's just so easy to sit back and say I'm comfortable with my natural ageing process, and not do anything in favour of our bodies... yet we have no idea of how long many years are ahead of us. I observe the limitation and changes now, and I think what it would be if I should ever make it another 40 years.

I like your neighbour's mindset 🙌 and that must be a great inspiration for you:)))

Hi, Milly!

Happy belated birthday! Best wishes to you today and always.

I am not afraid of old age but I am afraid of dependence. For me, the age of change was 51 and it's not that I feel old now. I think that in my mind I feel the same as when I was 40, but without a doubt, my body has given me its big warnings. There are things we can't avoid like our genetic background, but you can be in good physical condition to make the changes more bearable.

I am glad to know that you are attentive to the changes that could come with the years.

Taking care of yourself physically is a great investment that will surely reflect on your health. And it's so important to keep the mind positive and the soul young.

I'm happy to see you in Silver Bloggers ❤️ Thank you 😊

Big hugs and happy birthday again 🥂🤗🌸

Aging is something natural that should not worry us but yes how we do. I have always been afraid of not being able to fend for myself in my old age because that is another story.

The changes in our body in the years of menopause happen. There are those who handle them better, but taking good care of our health for that period should be a priority.

HBD again and welcome to SB 😘🤗

Happy Birthday Milly.
Age is just a number and the older I get the more I know.
As for women, well both my mother and grandmother said that a lady stops counting after 21.
We are as old as we feel. But 47 now is like a 27 year old two decades ago. So in mind you have not really aged at all!

Happy birthday dear @millycf1976 . The truth is that you look very good and that's because you take care of yourself. It is normal for the mind to stay younger than the body. Me next month I hit sixty-nine and my mind feels like I'm forty. Sometimes my body teases me but I try not to let myself win. What is important is to stay active, go outside and exercise.
I'm glad you celebrated your day. A big hug from Maracay.

Next month I hit sixty-nine and my mind feels like I'm forty.

You see, it's all depends on the mindset. Everyone has challenges mentally, physically, and emotionally, which I think add to the excitement of living, growing, and overcoming. I hate people who think that life should be easy and just give up, or those who feel like they've had it harder than anyone else. I don't speak much about hardship because I really don't want or need sympathy. I need the courage to get up and fight and that only comes from within.

I'm gonna keep pushing myself to take better care for myself because it would kill me if I'm not able to.
Thanks for the love, I feel it 😊🤗

Many congratulations on your birthday. It is nice that you celebrated by being in nature and also with tasty food and good wine thereafter. Life is about enjoying all the special moments - large or small and you seem to do both. You seem to take good care and indeed it is nice that you are proactive about the aging process.

I am embracing the process because know there are some things which are indeed within my span of contraol whilst others are not. For example - you are exercising - I am doing the same and absolutely enjoying nature and all the small things. I feel somehow optimistic about aging - hence there is not fear. Just taking it as it comes.

Many congratulations on your birthday. It is nice that you celebrated by being in nature and also with tasty food and good wine thereafter. Life is about enjoying all the special moments - large or small and you seem to do both. You seem to take good care and indeed it is nice that you are proactive about the aging process.

I am embracing the process because I know there are some things which are indeed within my span of control whilst others are not. For example - you are exercising - I am doing the same and absolutely enjoying nature and all the small things. I feel somehow optimistic about aging - hence there is no fear. Just taking it as it comes.

Happy belated Birthday ❤️ and you had such a wonderful day!
Dont remember my 47. But I never will forget my 40. 🙂 I was a happy single so calm at heart and felt so confidential in everything. Contrary my 50 😯 there I was in the middle of moving my living place, leaving the house and man I thought would get old with.
Inbetween 10 crazy years of ups and downs.
Now at 55 still healing the wounds of that time, but finding back to the calmness, confidential again seeing the inner lake of my soul getting back to its strenght. ❤️
Thats life. I think its not so much about the outer age, but about the inner state of mind wich always can stay young.

So 😘 lets see what we think and talk about when we've reach our 80s and are still blogging about our everyday experiences 😘

Thank you ❤️

Contrary to my 50 😯 there I was in the middle of moving my living place, leaving the house and a man I thought would get old with.

I'm sorry to hear that. This goes to show the unpredictable nature of life. That's why when I see people's judgement and look down on others, I always think, "Wake up"... what planet are you on... this "game" of life has many turns, and you don't know how your life is going to change at any time.

It's great that you continue to heal and feel confident and strong again. Yes, age and how young we feel is all in the mind.

So 😘 lets see what we think and talk about when we've reach our 80s and are still blogging about our everyday experiences 😘

Now, that's something. One of the most beautiful things about what we do here on the blockchain, is documenting our lives 😘🤗

And the kind support by the community ❤️ meanwhile am not really active on other social medias, but think I never would have got SO many deeply meaningful helping comments elsewhere ❤️

I agree with you.❤️
With Hive, I no longer spend time on any other social media, and I've come to realise just how toxic they are.xx

Well Magnificent Millicent, all I can say is, you don't look a day over 40?

In just over 2 weeks I will be 68, and I feel every minute these days. Enjoy your youth, you young'un.
