Colour Therapy - A Minimalist Hack

avatar
(Edited)

I believe that natural healing is possible if we apply a holistic approach to optimal well-being, and something as simple as colour therapy can be profound, as colours can alter our state of mind.

For the past week, I've been fighting an ailment of some sort, which has my eyes running with a heavy aching head, the chills, and a soar throat, which of course makes me feel miserable. However, I've been allowing my body to heal itself naturally, by keeping hydrated, getting rest, and cultivating optimism through positive psychology.

Pain can disrupt my level of relaxation and inner peace and cause me to struggle to keep calm, if I allow it, so mindfully I alter my mind with the colour hack of visually looking at something purple. Colours do have a psychological effect on me, and I might be naturally drawn to some colours more than others. But when I'm feeling under the weather, I become pragmatic and opt for what's best for staying high in spirits. So despite depleted energies, my everyday tasks have not been daunting, simply because I have been maintaining feelings of self-empowerment, through sensory perception.

Saying that, purple might not be my favourite colour, but I acknowledge what I feel from its prevalence. I find something about the colour purple is inspiring, and it triggers a certain energy within me, which enables me to find courage from within, to achieve normalcy in times of what feels like emotional and physical turmoil.

The inclusion of purple for enhancing my well-being can be anything; From having purple objects in my environment, a vase of purple flowers such as lavender, or in my case for the past few days, wearing my purple glasses.

Life doesn't have to be as complicated as we sometimes make it; From fear of sickness, failure, despair, and many other emotions that we sometimes unconsciously harbour.

Overall, I think life is all about perception, and in many ways, we can train our minds to have a positive outlook regardless of how bleak some days can feel.
Just the mere act of installing these purple glasses psychologically gives me a feeling of power over all circumstances. So much so, that it taps into my inner level of creativity, which is an important element for my mind, which needs to be constantly stimulated.

This colour concept might sound like a high sensitivity, which I think it is to a certain extent. However, are your moods influenced by colour or do you have other colour hacks that work to keep you inspired and self-motivated when you're feeling under the weather? I'd be more than happy to hear about them:)

Hello dear friend @millycf1976 good afternoon
What you say is very true, life is so complicated, many times it is us who make it more difficult. It is also correct that we can mentally prepare ourselves to be positive in all things.
Colors have a lot to do with it and can help positively or negatively affect depending on the colors that are in our environment, strong colors put a certain tension or more energy than soft colors.
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid weekend

Hey @jlufer
A happy weekend to you too.

Strong colors put a certain tension or more energy than soft colors.

I think so. Generally, I'm not fond of pastels because I don't think that they match my personality and they don't have any centering effect on me.
It's warm earth tones, with the inclusion of purple.
Thanks for dropping by:)))

Hope you feel better soon, my dear. <3 I love (as ever) your approach. I think it's a lot about perception, too, though I do think it matters that you believe that, you know? If someone just told you hey, wear a purple shirt and you'll feel better...wouldn't work, probably. But I do think there's great power to this type of thing and tapping into your own healing power.

Much love your way <3

You are right about that.

I'm on the mend, but I over-exerted myself on an uphill walk yesterday, which has set me back today. So, I'll give myself more time.

Wishing you a great weekend:))) 🍂🤗

Hi, @millycf1976, I agree with you that colors have a special influence on our mood. I really like the color purple and it makes me feel peace and tranquility. Your glasses look very nice, I think purple suits you very well, and if it makes you feel empowered and positive, then long live purple! Hope you are well and have a nice weekend for you. hugs!

Hello @aurodivys, thank you 😊
I don't have much purple clothing in my wardrobe right now, but it's a powerful colour that people always encourage me to wear. There's something "royal" about it, and yes, peace and tranquillity come to mind when I see it. It's no surprise that purple is a popular colour for yoga mats.
Have a nice weekend:)))

I think you have created a kind of anchor between the color purple and well-being and creativity.

You made me remember a moment when I felt very bad with myself for having acted wrongly towards a person, I felt very bad and I apologized, I accepted my guilt but it was not enough. Those days I just wanted to wear white and that made me feel better.

Those days I just wanted to wear white and that made me feel better.

Wow! That signifies so much. White could be seen as a blank slate for getting over the guilt. Or, a subconscious way of you trying to come to terms with what transpired and for feeling worthy of your forgiveness.

Orange is my fav colour adjacent to yellow. They both signify happiness. However, I interchange between the two being my favourite colours. When my focus is on making myself happy and prioritising myself, then orange is my favourite. If it's a period in my life when my husband is the focus and making sure that he is happy and I take the back burner, then yellow becomes the fav.
I do take note of when the changes in my preference occurs, as it indicates an off-balance. At the moment, I have equal liking for both yellow and orange, and it's also a time when my husband and I are at a very good place. (I hope my husband does not read this message, because he would have so many questions and wanna know if, and when, we have been in a bad place 😅🙃, which is not what I'm implying...Just that we are in sync with everything at the moment.)

I admire that you're always thoughtful, and that you connect deeply with your feelings:)))

I'm glad that everything at the moment is very well with your husband and you are in balance with your favorite colors, no doubt orange and yellow are cheerful colors and I'm not surprised that they are associated with happiness.

And the moment in my life I told you about, where I only wanted to wear white, I think I felt it might help me in a "purification" process. I even bought new clothes since I didn't have many white clothes but it was a very intense desire to wear that color.

I admire that you're always thoughtful, and that you connect deeply with your feelings:)))

Thank you very much 😊

Hey! Dear Milly. It's my first time on your blog and it really reads brilliantly already, hehe. Your psychology is so real and faithful!

You have done wonderful work, attaining the level of self-understanding and consciousness. Colour is really powerful and has a very deep meaning and significant power in it, though I have really not mastered my mind to that extent, but still going deeper. Whenever I find myself in pain or ailment. I take a moment to immerse myself in the beauty of nature, yeah. This untamed sanctuary, where the chirping of birdsong and the dance of sunlight create a masterpiece for the senses.

I really enjoyed your blog dear, Milly. I'm new around here, just wandering around the blockchain. Thanks for sharing this powerful one. You look really good in the shots below.

Hello there @zeegirl,
Welcome to Hive and my blog!
I'm happy that you connected with what I feel from colour therapy. I think there's healing power in everything, but society and the times force us to rely heavily on Western medicine, which is overused.
I hope you'll enjoy your time on Hive, and I'm sure I'll see you around.
Have a lovely Sunday:)

I really can't wait to have a place here conversing with people i love, hehe. Guess i love your psychology movement already ❤

I think that colors do effect mood to some extent and I'm sure that some people are more sensitive to them than others. I believe that purple is associated with the crown Chakra as well, if you're into that sort of thing

Of course, I'm into that!🙃 How did you guess? 😆

I did that for my course a few years ago. I'm a little colour blind and now that I look back at that, I think the second colour looks more like violet/purple and should be at the top, and the top colour looks more indigo to me... the teacher gave me full mark though, so I didn't question it.

However, since my studies, some active practitioners claim that the top 3 chakras no longer exist (don't ask me where they have gone, or why 😅) but I know that my third eye chakra is very strong and very much alive...

Btw Leaky!
Is lemon-lime Gatorade yellow or green?

As far as I knew, I liked the yellow Gatorade, but my husband says it's green 😳😂

Haha I'm not sure what color it is. I don't drink a lot of Gatorade. I always heard that purple was crown and indigo was third eye but I'm not 100% sure. Yeah in the image they would need to be reversed if that's the case. Funny that they are doing away with the top three Chakras. I wonder why? 🤔

Funny that they are doing away with the top three Chakras. I wonder why?

For me, I don't see how, because even in Qi Gong, the 3 dantians (energy storage in the body), are
Upper dantian - inclusive of the third eye - consciousness, intuition, intelligence
Middle dantian - the heart area - how we function in the world, what sparks us, and digestion ... basically the essence of living.
Lower dantian - survival response, reproduction and sexuality; known to be the most powerful of all dantians.

So I can't see how it would be possible to do away with the top ones. I haven't heard anything more about it so maybe the ones who believe it all read a hoax 😅

Hello, hello! Happy Sunday!... I'm so glad I didn't miss this post because it's so interesting everything you say. I had never thought about the power that colors can have in healing the body, although I have felt that perception, especially in mental healing. In fact I feel that there are colors that make my body sick (depending on the environment) like yellow and colors that alter my mind like the brightness of the sun through orange, since I was a child I have felt very sensitive to them, my parents were even scared by my childhood migraines.

But there are colors that heal my mind instantly and I try to keep them always with me, especially at home, like light blue and white. I relate them to the tranquility of my mind, I always choose them and I prefer them when I need to rest. I am struck by what you say about the color purple, because beyond your preference, that color has a lot of power in general, in fact sometimes I get the impression that people agree somehow when we wear purple, I don't understand why so many people coincide the same day with purple hehehe... Happy to read you, a big hug to you! 😘

Hello @jesuslnrs
What you say resonates with me.
As a child, I was sensitive to sunsets because they stirred emotions of sadness in me as if something was coming to an end. I felt a strong energy in the air at sunsets and my mum did her best to comfort me in those times. However, as I grew older and wiser, I started to feel positivity during sunsets, but there's still that feeling that something is coming to an end, which makes me experience deep moments of gratitude for life, and all simple things.

The feeling that you get from the colour blue vs yellow or orange is the opposite for me.
Yes, I am calm by the blue sea, however, not so much in a room that's painted blue.

They say that two suitable colours for a bedroom are blue or orange - Blue, for relaxation which is good for sleeping, or Orange if there's a desire to keep sexual energies stronger.

My husband and I gravitate to orange hues over blues 😆

Thanks for stopping by, and I wish you a lovely Sunday:)))

Hello there!
Thank you 😊 I might see if I can get the lens replaced with stronger ones on my next eye test, because this purple one is just 2.00, and my eyes are 2.2. I see OK, but bigger is better:)))
Happy Sunday!

I think life is all about perception.

Agreed.

Over time, I've come to realize that I have a thing for green. Better if it's plants. I need plants near me, or at least a refreshing green color that gives me peace.

With purple I often choose it for my clothes, for example, or my glasses--the glasses I broke some months ago are purple, and I'm about to order another pair exactly the same. It's a color that makes me happy, optimistic, feeling younger.

Blue makes me relax and sleep... I have a lot of history with colors.

I hope your health improves soon, amazing girl 💜

Yeah, I've always loved warm earth hues and green for plants and nature of course. However, purple is a colour that I tend to overlook until I find something and someone says to me, purple is your colour.
A makeup artist once gave me purple lipstick as a gift. I didn't wear it though because I prefer a more subtle or classic look for lips and I have a preference for red lips. The purple lipstick looked great on, except when I smile, the colour somehow made my teeth look discoloured 😆

Purple is an authoritative colour, and I've always highlighted my playful side with orange and yellow, however, I'm gonna switch that up a bit.

Thanks for stopping by, my health is improving, but not steadily. One day I think I'm on the mend and then the next day the symptoms are more severe. I'm getting there though and just need to build myself up. I'll pop over to the Coffee Conversation later... 💜

I really hope you're feeling better today, honey. I'm glad you can put up a smile even when you're feeling so bad.

You say purple is a authoritative color. That's interesting; you leave me thinking about my relationship with it. It's a color with a soul no doubt. I love it.
