Traveling With Love #31 - Port Town of Gdynia
Hello! It has been a fair while since I last posted a travel post. Not only did I have no good pictures to post from my previous travels, I was also too busy to travel and make new memories - but I finally got some more time and honestly - I am looking at a very exciting summer coming up. We are going for a 2 weeks trip around Europe at the beginning of June and then will be travelling on and off throughout July and August within our home countries: Poland and Bulgaria.
That said, it all already started, as we made a small trip to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Because it was a "double date trip", we had to figure out a place where both we and our friends could fly for cheap and enjoy our time (we live in different countries). In the end, we chose for the Polish Tricity. It is located in the north and allowed us to see three (or well, four) different cities/towns in the short span of 5 days! It also means I have quite a bit of stuff for my posts, which is awesome! The first post will be about Gdynia - the northern port town, which has some pretty views and a lot of water around it!
The Seaside
To be completely honest, I am starting with Gdynia because it was the city in which we had the least time to try and learn a lot about it. We had some time to walk around, find pretty vistas and take good pictures, but missed out on some things such as the emigration museum and more. Due to this, I do not know so much about Gdynia - but I sure do have beautiful pictures from there!
Because it is a port city, it has a beautiful seaside, which you can stroll on for a long time. That is what we did as soon as we arrived - left our luggage and took a long walk to see what is around. Despite the weather being fairly cold and windy (13 degrees celsius or so), it was so sunny that it was easy to ignore that!
As we walked, we've seen some ships repurposed as museums, as well as touristy ones that take people for quite cool sails.
We also found a seal:
For some reasons, unknown to me, my girlfriend finds these "letter" things interesting and wants to have pictures if we ever find those - so here's one of that too.
To finish off the seaside, here's some pretty pictures:

Here's the other side!
Kamienna Góra Vista
Alright, seaside done and then.. we found a vista so that we can look at the seaside, just from a bit up. Now, our friend loves transportation (as in, he finds buses, trains interesting, as well as all kinds of other means of transport). Due to this, we really wanted to get on a short and small funicular ride up to the vista point on Kamienna Góra. Of course, nothing ever goes completely perfect, so that just did not happen. The reason for that was that we're not the luckiest travelers - exactly that weekend, the funicular had to undergo its ANNUAL technical check. Welp.
Either way, we ended up walking up the stairs (honestly, it was like a 100 stairs, really not a problem at all, but come oooon) and still enjoying the vista. It was for sure worth it, as it made for great photos and just a very relaxing moment, staring at the sea and its surroundings from up there. Here's a picture from on the way up.
My favourite pictures are from the top, however - after all, that's the ones me and my girlfriend are on!
We spent a good half hour just taking pictures and sitting around, which was well needed - we're always really active while travelling and sometimes it is good to slow down and sit down.
Orłowo Pier
Last stop before moving on to Sopot and Hel was the Orłowo Pier. This is a pretty pier a little away from the center of the city - we ended up taking an uber there. This is something that is actually so enjoyable when you go to countries with less purchasing power; everything feels so cheap - ubers are no exception.
While it isn't a huge pier, it is quite pretty and has fairly good views all around. We grabbed a coffee, as we all needed a bit of a boost and instantly walked onto the pier to enjoy the sea breeze and a good walk.
I love this picture, so had to include it. As you can see, the sky looks fantastic, contrasted against the sea. It really was enjoyable to look around us and see these surroundings. One more view we've had was a great forest and a bunch of old buildings.
One of them is an abandoned hotel which is off-limits to the public, but supposedly draws attention of those seeking a more spooky type of adventure. We went up to see it from a bit closer, but well - none of us is into those things, so that really was a bit of an exercise in futility.
Closing Words
Overall, Gdynia was the first of the cities we've visited (we only overnighted in Gdansk before) and one we definitely did not have enough time in. We planned for most of our trip to be in Gdansk and well.. even there we wished we had a bit more, so I can't say I regret splitting it the way we did.
In the end, I enjoyed my time in Gdynia, but I do not really have an opinion of the city - not enough time to create one.
