History shouldn't be forgotten (Let's Preserve our Heritage)

Is learning history important in this present day and time?
I couldn't agree more; history is so important that without it, we wouldn't know where we're from.
Looking back to when I was in secondary school, I didn't even learn History as a subject. I only learned attle history in Civic education and also from reading some current affairs.

I totally disagree with the idea that history doesn't have to be taught in school. Without history, we wouldn't even know about the slave trade and how Nigeria was colonized by Great Britain. Without history, the likes of Nelson Mandela and other great men and women who have done great things in Africa and Nigeria would be forgotten, and all their efforts would be in vain.
Trust me when I say history can be very boring and tiring to learn, but scraping it off the curriculum like it never existed while depriving people of the knowledge they need to know because of reasons best known to the government is just absurd. Do they have anything to hide? Otherwise, why scrape off a subject that not just benefits the nation, but also the people.

Learning about our hero's past and the great things they've done for the country at large gives us motivation to move further and also helps us to not make the same mistakes they did. History should be a compulsory subject in schools, in the same way, English and maths are compulsory subjects for everybody.

Growing up, our parents always tell us the history of our family, how our grandparents did this and that, and how they were also the most reputable family back in those days. Without history, all of that info would go down the drain. Imagine going out of Nigeria, and they ask you some basic questions about some events that took place years ago, and you can't provide an answer just because your country deprived you of learning something so important.

Remember that without the past, there's no present or future.

We still learn about the creation of the world from years ago and all the things that happened in the Bible; nobody on earth now was alive back then to witness it, yet we still talk about it every day, and the same people beat their chests and say history is too much. You weren't there to witness the creation of the world, but why should our history, which happened maybe 500 or 50 years ago, be lost. Why is it so hard to read about that? Why is it now a burden for people to learn something so complex and easy?

I asked my friend about her take on this topic, and her response was that she's happy that history is no longer being taught in schools again, and we don't really need to know what happened in the past because after all it's in the past and it's of no use to us now in this modern life.

I disagree because learning history helps us not to make the same mistakes our leaders made in the past.

Without history, cultural identity would be lost. Without history, our heritage would be lost, and most people wouldn't even know where they're from, and making the same mistake would be so easy.

Lastly, History is very essential because it keeps you informed.
