Today, I´d like to share my experience about self repairs. Engaging in self repairs is truly invigorating for me; it not only satisfies one's ego but also fosters a deep sense of accomplishment. There's something profoundly gratifying about tackling a project with your own hands, witnessing the transformation unfold, and knowing that you've overcome challenges through your own skill and determination. It's a testament to one's resourcefulness and ingenuity, and each successful repair adds to a growing sense of self-reliance and competence.

Heute möchte ich meine Erfahrungen mit Selbstreparaturen teilen. Selbstreparaturen sind für mich wirklich belebend; sie befriedigen nicht nur das eigene Ego, sondern vermitteln auch ein tiefes Gefühl der Vollendung. Es hat etwas zutiefst Befriedigendes, ein Projekt mit den eigenen Händen in Angriff zu nehmen, die Verwandlung mitzuerleben und zu wissen, dass man Herausforderungen durch eigenes Können und Entschlossenheit gemeistert hat. Es ist ein Beweis für den eigenen Einfallsreichtum und Erfindungsreichtum, und jede erfolgreiche Reparatur stärkt das Gefühl der Selbstständigkeit und Kompetenz.

Repainting a metal gate is a great way to refresh its appearance and provide additional protection against rust and corrosion.This metal gate had really signs of corrosion and could need a bit of repair. The gate stood there for 15 years or so and was never repainted I wanted to do it the last time I was here in August, but didn't have enough time due to my short stay. Six months later, I came back and finally did the job of repainting.

Ein Metalltor neu zu streichen ist eine großartige Möglichkeit, sein Aussehen aufzufrischen und es zusätzlich vor Rost und Korrosion zu schützen Dieses Metalltor hatte wirklich Anzeichen von Korrosion und könnte eine kleine Reparatur gebrauchen. Das Tor stand dort seit etwa 15 Jahren und wurde nie neu gestrichen. Ich wollte das schon bei meinem letzten Besuch im August machen, hatte aber wegen meines kurzen Aufenthalts nicht genug Zeit. Sechs Monate später kam ich zurück und habe es endlich gestrichen.

This was the status of the gate which looked so awful. First, I grabbed a metal brush and gently scrubbed away the small patches of rust in the corners. There wasn't too much rust, but the brush did a good job of getting rid of it. Next, I gave the gate a thorough cleaning with soap and water. Then, I rinsed the entire gate with a water hose and let it dry completely.

Das war der Zustand des Tores, das so schrecklich aussah. Zuerst nahm ich eine Metallbürste und schrubbte vorsichtig die kleinen Rostflecken in den Ecken weg. Es war nicht allzu viel Rost, aber die Bürste hat ihn gut entfernt. Dann reinigte ich das Tor gründlich mit Wasser und Seife. Dann spülte ich das gesamte Tor mit einem Wasserschlauch ab und ließ es vollständig trocknen.

Before starting the project, I purchased a can of black oil paint known as Hammerite (Just to clarify, this isn't a product endorsement). We've used it around our house before because it's great at protecting metal surfaces from rust while giving them a strong and good-looking finish.

Bevor ich mit dem Projekt begann, kaufte ich eine Dose schwarzer Ölfarbe namens Hammerite (nur um das klarzustellen, das ist keine Produktbefürwortung). Wir haben diese Farbe schon früher in unserem Haus verwendet, weil sie Metalloberflächen hervorragend vor Rost schützt und ihnen gleichzeitig eine robuste und gut aussehende Oberfläche verleiht.

For the corners and spears, I opted for a brush, while I used a roller to spread the paint evenly over the gate's surface. It's important to start from the top and move downwards to avoid any drips or uneven coverage.

Für die Ecken und Speere habe ich mich für einen Pinsel entschieden, während ich die Farbe mit einer Rolle gleichmäßig auf der Oberfläche des Tores verteilt habe. Es ist wichtig, von oben nach unten zu streichen, um Tropfen und ungleichmäßige Verteilung zu vermeiden.

The weather played a great role on this day, temperature wise it was hot. I was lucky because it rained the following day. And so, the job is done and here you can see the refurbished gate looking like new, don´t you think?

Das Wetter spielte an diesem Tag eine große Rolle, es war sehr heiß. Ich hatte Glück, denn am nächsten Tag regnete es. Die Arbeit ist also getan und hier siehst du das renovierte Tor, das wie neu aussieht, findest du nicht auch?

You might have noticed that I didn´t wear gloves, that´s because I can´t work properly using them. It´s my method even when gardening and it works best for me and I am sataisfied with the outcome of my work. Do you also tackle repairs in your home like me?

Du hast vielleicht bemerkt, dass ich keine Handschuhe getragen habe, weil ich damit nicht richtig arbeiten kann.
