The Long & Scary Vacation Became Memorable

I thought I was going to write about a vacation I enjoyed when I saw the prompt but once again, I'm reminded of what happened years back the first time I visited grandma as a teenager, not as a baby when mum had to carry me there. That time, I went myself along with my siblings in hopes of spending a holiday with grandma before new session started at school.

The three of us were so sure that it was going to be a memorable vacation but we didn't think that memorable could go in many ways... A scary memory, a good memory, a bad memory... This vacation fell on a scary and good memory, how?

Long before we went for the vacation, dad had playfully told us about some animals that my grandma's village people serve (and I mean, those who aren't God's believer). Dad even told us a story of how the animals became their god and why they worship them. What dad didn't tell us or maybe wasn't aware of to tell us is what made our vacation a scary one.

We knew the villagers worship a kind of animal but we didn't know what it looked like and didn't think we'd have to see any since we believed it was going to be in their shrine or any of their place of worship which we knew we'd never go to. But we were wrong... This was what happened on our second day at grandma's place.

Grandma went out to buy some items and asked us to wait for her inside the house since we were still new to the whole environment, but the curious and excited little us ran outside immediately Grandma was out of sight. We wanted to explore our huge neighborhood at least until our aunt who promised to take us out would come around.

We were outside playing, I had to ease myself and I ran to a bush close by instead of going to our house restroom 🥲 and there I saw a huge animal crawling very slowly with his fangs coming in and out of it's mouth... I screamed Snake!!! and my siblings and I ran inside the house quickly in fear.

We didn't dare come out of the house until grandma came back and we kept explaining what I saw in our lose of breathe and scared faces. Grandma smiled and said we will have to figure out a way to get used to it because sometimes, it might be in our general kitchen which was outside.

We all screamed almost in unison out of fear 🤣

It was at that time Grandma told us what the name of the animal was... Iguana and confirmed it to us that it was the animal they call god in the village. We knew at that point that we wanted to go back home to our father 😂 we kept calling dad to come get us but dad kept promising and never came.

None of us could go out alone, we would go in three and still run as fast as our legs could carry us when we encounter the animal again. It continued like that for days but it felt like we spent more than a year at grandma's place because of how everyday seem to be full of scary moments for us.

There was one time we saw it in our kitchen just as grandma told us, it didn't move from there for the whole day until grandma came and sent it away. It was fascinating to look at it from afar but we could still feel how scared we get whenever it is seen around.

I still can't believe we actually spent a whole vacation of more than a month and stayed another one year of school session in that place... Yeah, we got used to the animal around and even learnt how to send it away so we can go about our normal activities. It was one of the longest vacation I've ever had, and it started as a scary one for me.

This is my response to the #neoxianprompts contest and you're invited to participate as well.

Hahaha 😂😂, like seriously? Looks like you guys had no choice but to adapt with the animal when Dad promised to come but never did .lol

Apparently, he wanted you guys to get familiarised with grandpa and everything around grandpa 😂.

I have heard about some people worshipping a kind of animal and giving it a beffiting burial but I do not know that it still exist in this 21st century. People and their culture anyway

That was indeed a scary vacay , the type you won't forget in a hurry..lol

Thanks for participating in the contest😇

Feeling afraid to see snake is natural and staying safe is the best thing we should do.
I think we get used to situations, doesn't matter how worse the condition is and I think you are also used to it although you encountered some scary incidents.

😃😃😃😃 I remembered when we moved to our own place as well. We often see snakes and other weird looking animal and we got used to them eventually but it wasn't easy at first. Thanks for sharing this beautiful story.

hehe you crack me up, Merit! 🤣 ok, so how big was this iguana? !LOLZ I mean I've seen some big iguanas when I lived in South Africa, and I am not so sure I would have liked to have lived alongside them haha. But it is amazing to see them. They used to lie in the road sometimes sunning themselves. The worst was when there were bush fires then everything that was living left the bush!!!😮😱 There would be snakes and iguanas everywhere... now that was some scary stuff!!! !PIZZA !ALIVE

I dropped in from Dreemport this evening.

Lol, I can imagine that first run lol that is why it's always advisable for us to get to know our origin, by visiting our village regularly and also learn more about our root. Glad daddy did not interfere with that scary learning moment😂.
