My First Earning - My Pride
Honestly, I thought for so long to try remember my first earning and the story behind it... It just kept coming in bits by bits and I saw myself smiling at every thought of it.
Before my first earning...
I've been the daddy's girl who always get allowances from dad so long I was leaving home to school, to church or a birthday party I was invited to. Dad never let my siblings and I go out without pocket money (It was an habit for him and it got used to us too).
The lowest amount he would give to us then was #150 and that amount could buy a lot at that time (I mean it could buy me lots of sweets, chocolate, peanuts and my favourite drinks) haha yeah, I was the worse sweet tooth back but dad kept giving me money.
But like they say, everyday isn't a good day... Dad couldn't keep up giving us pocket money (He actually had to leave us with his sibling, my aunt and we stopped getting allowances). I didn't felt it as a challenge since my aunt tried her best to take care of our little needs almost like my dad.
Where my first earning idea came from...
My aunt had a small store where she sold provisions and food stuffs, I started to help her at the shop but without pay of course... She was feeding my siblings and I very well. Sometime later, I heard my aunt say something that I simply can't forget up till now.
She suggested that we think of making our own products and use her store as an avenue to sell them off then earn for ourselves. Honestly, I didn't think I was ever going to work for my own pay because I had the notion that dad would give us allowances again when he was back and continue with it.
Well, my thoughts changed and I liked the way my aunt was earning from her shop... I decided to think of what I would do to earn in her shop, I was 15 years at that time so an idea didn't take time to come in.
I learnt a skill to make my first earning...
Uhmm can I really call it a skill? Maybe I can since I learnt how to make candies, package them and sell at my aunt's store. Believe me when I say I learnt how to make them from words of mouth (People tried explaining how they make them) and I got better at every trial until I made very good ones fit for sales.
Thanks to my aunt and younger sister, who gave me packaging tips after I made fine candies (coconut candies and groundnut cakes). I decided to sell some in my aunt's store and took some to school to sell too... Trust me, it was a whole new feeling of excitement for me.
Whoever bought from the candies had a good remark for it, I felt like I was a genius in the skill and I couldn't wait to see if I had the profit from making them. Aunt gave me money to start the business so I had to give her back and use my profit to continue.
My first earning, my pride
I got home feeling excited with the amount I got from selling at school (I was able to sell all the candies I took to school) I wish I had taken all of it to school but when I got home, aunt had sold the ones I left at her store too.
I calculated my first earning and it amounted to a total of #1200 (about $2) giving me a profit of #500 (about $1). You needed to see how happy and proud I was of myself. Even my aunt praised me for my first earning.
You can imagine the joy in my heart when I was holding my own hard earned money... I used it to make more candies and I earned more while I got better at making candies.
I don't make candies to sell anymore but I have the skill and the memories to keep, thanks to my aunt who inspired it, to my brain for having such a thought and to all my supporters and customers when I started.
Thanks for reading!!!
I remember when I sold Kuli cookies in school. I always made a profit of about 500 on a bad day. Lol. Thanks for sharing this. Brings memories. Seriously nothing's as sweet as earning money
#500 on a bad day? Hahaha that's a lot girl compared to mine but it was all a good memory and that is what counts 😊
I'm glad I brought back memories
Life is not easy, it's full of experience and management, thank God after a quite hard times you where able to find something doing.....keep it up.

Na to come chop candies one of these days na
It's always thrilling to hold our own money that came from our sweat
It gives a better joy than the ones we received although am in for both😂
Longer longer
You mean my leg is long?
You and your short legs so, lemme alone abeg 😂😂
😂😂😂
Your aunt did a nice job, giving you that idea and you went ahead and used it to make money..
I can imagine the smile on your face selling all those candies for the first time.
And even if you don't sell it any longer, can still make them whenever you want to because you have the skill.
But wait oo, have never heard groundnut cakes before o
What are those dear???
The darker ones are groundnut cakes and the others ones are coconut candies... I bought these though, mine are more beautiful 😂
Wow...
Never seen these before.. they look beautiful
mine are more beautiful 😂
Smiles, feel like trying some from you now .
Yeah, they are more beautiful and tasty if I prepare them 😅

A sweet tooth is struggling to gain weight 🤔. Ohhhh! It's amazing. I am trying to avoid sweet to lose weight, you know...😣 and I don't like to avoid sweet because I have a sweet tooth too.
Hahaha so amazing how these things work, if I were to add more weight with the amount of sweets I've taken... I'd be so far by now 😅
I hope you get to lose weight soon dear, just try limiting your sweet intake.
Mmmmmm. Sweet is not the problem I guess. I love sweets since ever but I only gained wa
Eight in the last three years without the addition of any particular diet. I guess the problem can be explained by multiple factors and not just one.

This is a beautiful story, the fact that you are able to think up a product to sell is huge some can't get beyond that stage, having a product led you developing skills to make them for sales. Very impressive of you!

Yeah, I was so happy I got such an idea even though it was from what others have been doing before.
It was a big achievement for me to have been able to make the candies myself.
Thanks for stopping by 😊

Lol I can remember liking coconut candies in those days, we don’t see them around anymore. Nice. At least you must have also learnt some customer service and pr skills. Do you think it’s something you can ever do again even on a bigger scale?
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Hahaha I've actually thought of that... Doing it on a bigger scale but I'm yet to give it more thoughts.
I could do it but not sure if I would have that enough time (Hive is always my best option if I want to get busy) 🙈
What do you advice?

It might not have earned much but I am sure that experience helped you later in life. Also just having the skill is a great thing as well.

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever lose the skill... It's built in already 😊
Thanks for stopping by

Wow, that was nice, making candies was a different and good idea. How could you have stopped, though? It seems like you had a very delicious product that people couldn't stop buying, you probably should have continued and keep racking in profits. It's also not too late, you know 😉
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Hahaha I know it's not too late but I had to stop when I was moving back to be with dad... I continued again but other activities took my time so I had to stop until now 😕
Posted using LeoFinance Mobile
Okay, but you shouldn't be letting a good avenue like that to waste except you think you don't really need the money 🌚
Hahaha I need money lol
I will think of a way to do something about it, thanks so much 😊

I loved this, Merit!
I can remember the first time I earned my own money. It's a joy, to feel like you've accomplished something
So muck joy indeed, I'm glad I could go back to that memory with you 😊
Your aunt was such a wonderful woman to spike up an idea and you decided to make use of the moment to earn, even though it was little then, but it was an happiness seeing how you were making your own money yourself. Dad won´t continue giving you allowances na 😂 I came via Dreemport.
Hahaha dad wouldn't o
I got clear on that and find way for myself.
Thanks for stopping by 😊
The first earnings we make with our own effort are always the most awesome. That sense of accomplishment - of creating value that somebody else actually valued 😍Lovely post Merit! I saw your post shared in Dreemport this evening.

Indeed, it was a very memorable one for me 😊
Thanks Sam ❤️
I can imagine your excitement with that first two dollars and the lesson learned of how satisfying it is to earn your own money. Your aunt was so nice motivating and helping you.
I remember the first time I earn money. I was around 15 too, it was the summer holidays, and my cousins and I spent much of the holidays working with my aunt who had a small fabric printing workshop and had a job coming up to paint some fabric puppies that a toy shop wanted. I remember how happy I was each week when I received my own money.
Dreemport brought me. Cheers, partner!

Wow that's good story you have about hour first earning... I'm sure you still know how to do that right?
Thanks for stopping by.
Now that I think about it, it's a good story. We used screens to paint. We had to paint the spots on the puppies. I remember that I always had to paint its paws. It was a lot of fun.
And my pleasure to stop by:) Have a good night 🤗
